Early morning start your day excursion to Morocco, departure from Tarifa port (south of Spain), you will across the strait of Gibraltar in a very modern high speed catamaran, most of my clients for Tangier day trip from Spain prefer the 9 am or the 11 am ferry departure. Just an hour after you will land on the African continent in an entirely different world. The Moroccan clock is one hour behind so you arrive at 9 am local time in Tangier. I will be waiting for you at Tangier’s harbor holding a poncard with your name, upon arrival the adventure begins. I will take you for a fascinating private tour of the old town (medina), the kasbah and the souks of Tangier, we may have chance to have Moroccan lunch with local family in Tangier.
Your Tangier day trip include a visit to the Tangier American Legation Museum which is the only historic landmark of the United States outside of the USA. Displayed inside are a variety of historical items and art exhibits, whilst the museum’s library houses a large collection of books, maps, photographs and articles relating to Morocco.
The morning walking tour of the medina will also include a visit to the fortified Kasbah, one of the city’s main attractions. The Kasbah is built on the highest point of the city and has excellent views out over the Straits of Gibraltar and neighbouring Spain. Within its gates lies a large marble courtyard that leads to the Dar el-Makhzen, a former Sultan’s palace built in the 17th century, which today houses the Museum of Moroccan Art.
At the end of our walking tour we’ll stop for lunch at a typical Moroccan restaurant or in local house with Moroccan family if it possible, after lunch we will continue our Morocco adventure, we will explore the surrounding countryside and stop to visit the Caves of Hercules on the Atlantic , associated with the Greek hero Hercules. This striking cave resembles the map of Africa. According to Geek legend, Hercules rested here after digging the Strait of Gibraltar. This vantage point offers an exceptional view of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Atlantic Ocean.
Next stop is Cap Spartel at the extreme North-West of Africa. Known as the Cape of Vines in ancient times, a lighthouse today stands guard over Cap Spartel.
We will also visit the hills of Tangier where the architecture serves as a reminder of the colonial days when the city was ruled by the English, American, French and Spanish. Late afternoon back to the Ferry. End of your Morocco day excursion.
