About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Conrad M0 contributionsFun, great tastings at four cellar doors.Tony guided and entertained us for the trip, along with lining up four enjoyable wineries in the Yarra Valley. We joined others for a total of 15 people, Tony can take up to 24. Pick up and drop off in the CBD was easy, the bus was fine, but it’s all about the wine and experience - I purchased bottles as well as extra glass of wine along the way. If you are searching in vain for one to choose, as I did four months ago, stop, and just book the tour. You won’t be disappointed.Written 28 November 2024
- OlwynC60 contributionsNot the bestThe transport was far from the luxury coach advertised - it was a very tired and noisy mini bus and the seating did not enable us to sit together. The tastings were fairly hurried and I felt we did not get to taste the best of the Yarra. The tour guide was a brash fellow but I felt overall he was not that interested in providing a great experience. Could do better.Written 22 November 2024
- ab0919900 contributionsA really fun day out!We had such a great time on the winery tour! Tony was a fantastic host/tour guide, and we got to taste some fantastic wines and meet so many wonderful people!Written 27 October 2024
- brianbravebird0 contributionsTour is well organised but better to stick to the day tour rather than overnightBoth the wine tour and the overnight stay at Balgownie Estate are great but I think it’s better just to stick to the Yarra Valley day tour. The overnight tour follows the exact itinerary of the day tour with an added overnight accommodation (no special arrangements for the overnight tour). You follow the AM itinerary on the first day with one group, check in to Balgownie Estate in the afternoon and follow a second group the next day for the PM itinerary. There really isn’t anything to do at Balgownie Estate after checking in as you wouldn’t have any transport to visit the nearby wineries so I would say it’s not worth it stretching the tour over 2 days.Written 23 May 2024
- smudge610 contributionsFunEntertaining driver. A good range of vineyards visited. Excellent lunch. We were hoping to learn more about the wine making process than this tour offered. But an enjoyable day.Written 30 March 2024
- ryyan77270 contributionsThe perfect wine tourAmazing wine tour - convenient pick up / drop-off, 4 very different but quality wineries, comfortable air-conditioned bus, but the real highlight was guide Tony’s running commentary on wine, the Yarra Valley, Australia and life in general. Thanks Tony for making this a day I’ll remember for a long time!Written 9 March 2024

The driver and host John was a joy to spend time with and we tasted some excellent wines and had the best lunch - all in amongst beautiful countryside. We couldn't fault the day - totally worth the cost. We can't wait to return to the Yarra Valley.Written 18 February 2024
- Ian G0 contributionsBrilliant day in Yarra Valley with lots of wine and laughterWe had a fab fun day which was made even more fun with our knowledgeable driver Tony. We visited 4 really good wineries were we sampled bubbles, whites, rose and reds. There was no pressure or expectation to purchase at any of the wineries but we did as the wines were so good. The lunch we had at the 2nd winery was really really good. The company on the bus were great too, especially the American ladies, Conny, Kathy and Nancy ( sorry Canadian😀) and the newly engaged Chris and Luke.Written 15 February 2024

- 203janeb0 contributionsFun day, perfect number of peopleOur guide, Tony, provided excellent and fun commentary from the start of this pleasant tour. Lots of wine poured at 4 wineries, so be prepared to pace yourself! Lunch was delicious, at the second stop. Would have liked a snack, maybe crackers, cheese or fruit, since we had so much wine. Or perhaps a suggestion before the tour to bring some ourselves. Overall though a very enjoyable day.Written 8 February 2024

We were in Melbourne for the Australian Open but being winos we definitely had to make time to visit Yarra Valley wineries. We prefer red wines to white wines and after researching the wineries on this tour it seemed like our best bet to enjoy some red wines. Pretty much everything about this tour went flawlessly. The pick up was easy and on time. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable not just about the wines but about the area as a whole. And he definitely had a passion for wine. Everyone at the wineries were cheerful, informative and helpful. Lunch was excellent. We did not get cheated on the number of wines poured at any of the wineries, which was nice since I'm normally the designated driver and have to spit or pour out tastings. While I did not personally find any of the wines exceptional (more than a few other people on our tour purchased bottles) I am not the least bit bothered by that fact. After the tour we even had dinner with some new friends! I would highly recommend this tour.

We spent a day visiting 4 vineyards in the yarra region, John was our driver and spoke very knowledgeably about the region, the vineyards, the history and of course the wines. That being said he was fun and had plenty of amusing stories to tell. We tasted a high variety of wine. Our favourite winery was Domaine Chandon which was a Show stopper and I could have spend a few more hours there in such a lovely setting. The tour highlighted that australians are making great wine and have great hospitality. I will bring my husband back to do this tour again.

My husband and I had an amazing day doing the Yarra Valley Wine tour.
Our driver, Tony, had great knowledge about the wineries and about the local areas we drove through. He made the drive casual and fun and was a large reason the ride was so enjoyable.
The wineries themselves were great. The haul we came home with can testify to that fact 🤣
The first 3 wineries we visited were friendly and welcoming and we were able to sit and enjoy the beautiful grounds.
Lunch at the Balgownie estate was amazing and delicious.
My only fault was we found the last winery a bit disappointing. Their wine was absolutely amazing, don’t get me wrong. They had my favourite wine of the day, but they were much less accommodating than the first 3 wineries. Their tasting area was cramped and we felt like we were a bit of a hassle for them doing the tasting. Maybe we were lol.
Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys wine.

Overall, the tour was average. The day felt slightly rushed. Lunch lasted only 45 minutes which also included a wine tasting. We stopped at the Balgownie Estate Winery for lunch but it was unfortunate to learn that their restaurant had burnt down in October 2020. Because of this, we had to have lunch in a corporate tent, which wasn’t ideal as we couldn’t enjoy the nice views/sunshine. We felt that the tour could’ve been changed to stop at a different winery for lunch. Having said this, the bus driver was personable and the wine tour company was very responsive with our requests and accomodating of our large group.

Our guide Nick was extremely knowledgeable on the yarra valley area and wineries and local produce on offer. The bus was a nice sized 24 seater comfortable for the one hours journey from Melbourne city. Our tour included four wineries with lunch included at the Balgownie Estate Winery the meal was excellent quality and a wonderful selection on offer. Pick up and drop off points were exactly as per the tour information all very well organized. This is a must do while visiting Melbourne you will enjoy a fabulous day out.

Picked up, bang on time at 9.00am by driver Tony, who was fantastic with his knowledge and humour. Had visitors from UK, USA, Ireland, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand and everyone got on very well. Visited 4 great wineries, Yerling Farm, Balgownie Estate, Chandon, and Helen & Joey's. Every winery was superb and tastings were included in the price, along with a delicious lunch at the Balgownie Estate. A great day out !

This trip is fabulous and well organised. All four of the vineyards we visited were unique in their own way and by the end we had tried 24 different wines - money well spent! The lunch was also delicious and in a beautiful spot. My only criticism is that I would have liked a little more time at the final vineyard (Moët and Chandon) as it was such a gorgeous spot I think arriving back in Melbourne an hour later to spend more time there would be better. Lovely views on the drive there and our driver John also gave us extra information about the area which was nice :)

Because of the few negative reviews and how much fun we had today we wanted to leave a note saying that we couldn’t recommend this tour highly enough. John was our guide and from the get go he was fantastic; so knowledgable and good fun, got all the group feeling up for the tour and kept us there. This is fantastic value for money, the lunch was excellent quality and the 4 stops for 5 different wines at each was plenty for a fantastic day wine tasting - we’d never been before and think it will be hard to beat this. The scenery is stunning, and it was great to be picked up so close to our hotel. You will have a great day out doing this wine tasting, and even if it seems a bit expensive at first, it’s great value, definitely worth doing this as your day out in Melbourne. I would even say that 4 places might have been too many!! 3 would have left us super satisfied and maybe having more time to wander around after lunch would have made it even more relaxed. Thank you to John our great guide and to the tour company for its correspondence.

My wife and I reside in Sydney and decided to book a wine tour of the Yarra Valley rather than hire a car from Melbourne and do your own thing. Great decision. The tour was excellent value for money . The Tour Guide (Tony) did a great job, the wine tastings were most generous and the lunch at Balgownie Estate was first class. All participants on the tour appeared to have a really good time. Participants were from Sydney , Brisbane , Singapore, Hong Kong and Denmark.
Well done Australian Wine Tour Company.

Can’t recommend this tour highly enough; the tastings were well organised and hosted by very knowledgable staff and our guide Chris kept us all entertained (both at the wineries and on the bus between stops) with a perfect balance of local and industry knowledge, humour and stimulating wine chat. Lunch was also delicious. Overall great value for money and left our group of four considering returning to the exact same tour again in future! Thanks Chris and Aussie Wine Tour Co!

Please can you describe the wine tasting. Will it be a proper wine tasting where we can choose to spit out and someone will explain the notes and flavours we should detect? Or will it just be getting a glass off wine at each stop I.e getting to taste the wine

Does the winery entry/admissions include the cost of wine tasting? Or is this extra? If so, how much?
Written 5 September 2022
On the tour we were on, the tastings were included and there were quite a few (approx 6 at each stop and there were 5 stops). However, there was nothing to eat with these tastings so make sure you have a good breakfast before you go as there were 3 tasting stops before lunch and then we had lunch before the last 2 stops.

in regards to the lunch at Balgownie, do you get to choose your food or is it a set menu? is lunch included in the price?
Thanks

Hey! I have a group of 11, are you able to accomodate us? I could only book the tour for 8 people on this site!
Written 25 April 2022
I think it depends on the date and booking received as they seem very popular. The total group size of mine should be around 20 pax so in terms of their car and other logistic arrangement, size of 11 is not an issue.

1. We are a party of 5 for the tour on Sunday March 6th. One person is 95 yrs young and whilst quite spry, cannot walk long distance. We are staying At The Oaks Hotel on Collins St. Is it a long walk to the pick up spot?
2. 3 people have a 7.30pm domestic flight that day. Would we be back in time to get to the airport for this flight?

Can you add me to the waiting list from the Hyatt tomorrow Wednesday the 10th? A group of us is going and I thought they made me reservations.
