A great family adventure
From the start it was a great experience. I received a text early that day for an updated time to arrive and check in. This was super helpful in that we did not wait too long at the start where the bugs were the worst. There are nice restrooms and showers available if you need them.
We really liked the adventure of kayaking during the dark night through the mangroves. I also thought it was good that all the kayaks were doubles—something to consider of you have an odd-numbered party. They took care of those with three in their group very well too. Although it was pitch dark we were helped by the guides who alerted us to the upcoming turns in the path through the mangroves.
Some of us thought the bay would be like a disco or sorts but you have to disturb the water to see the bioluminescence. Talia was our guide and she was very knowledgeable and funny too! Yes the water has a slightly sulphur smell but it was not too disagreeable. The crew was super helpful in getting us into and out of the kayaks a d making sure we were safe and comfortable. All in all a great experience for our group of 10-76 years olds!!!

Fun Night Paddle
This was so much fun and the guides were great! Very knowledgeable and safety conscious. I was a little nervous about kayaking in the dark but the guides definitely made sure everyone was safe. The bay was not very luminous due to a seaweed infestation which killed the organisms, as well as it being a full moon. We were provided tarps to cover with so we could see some sparkles in the water, though. It wasn’t what I was hoping for, but that’s the way nature works, so you get what you get! All in all, it was a great experience for our family. Parts of the paddle were challenging, especially if you haven’t kayaked before, so if you have no experience, I would recommend the earlier session so you paddle out with the sunset.

Great trip for Stargazing and Viewing Nature!
Jan. 2021 • Couples
It was a great little canoe trip. Bugs weren’t too bad but we sprayed ourselves down ahead of time. Canoeing through the mangroves is almost just as breathtaking as seeing the bioluminescent organisms. The stars are also fantastic to see when it’s so dark! If you’re expecting the water to be bright blue, you will be disappointed but it’s still incredible to see glowing white specs when you splash your hand in the water! I don’t think it’d be suitable for younger children but it’s absolutely fantastic!

Bioluminescent Bay tour
This was really a great tour. We had a moonless night and clear skies. The stars were beautiful. Our guides were great and very knowledgeable and informative. The bay was spectacular. We had fish jumping, low flying bats, and of course the bioluminescent stars of the show. Highly recommend this tour.

Great service
Mar. 2020 • Family
Grest guides. Beautiful bay. Remember that to get to and from the bioluminescent bay with any of these guide services you need to kayak 1.5 miles each way through a narrow dark channel. The current can be a little strong leaving the biobay. We had some people on our tour who clearly had never kayaked and were not in shape to do so, and they created quite a cluster and held up our group a lot. Our guides were gracious and helpful and patient. They provided us with snacks and refreshments afterward, as well. However, I feel that anyone wanting to go to the biobay needs to know what it takes to get there, regardless of which guide service/kayak rental you use. If you have never kayaked, you need to at least be in decent physical shape to do this. If you’re a parent with a kid who can’t paddle be prepared for a very physically demanding trip back in to the launch site after viewing the bay. That being said, the tour and bay was excellent. My teenage daughters loved it.

Kayak bioluminescent tour
Mar. 2020 • Friends
We had a fabulous time on the bioluminescent tour! It happened to be a full moon but they had tarps so we could see the glow! Our tour guides, Wesley, Donatello, Bryan, Daphne? and one more we’re great at giving kayak instructions, describing the organisms and leading us through the mangroves. You get wet waist down, might need some bug spray and wear water shoes. Totally worth it!

Dynamic Dinoflagellates!
Feb. 2020
We went for the later evening kayak trip to see the bioluminescent dinoflagellates in Laguna Grande. Our guide Talia and her team were very organized and ran the trip like a well-oiled machine. As people who have some kayaking experience, it was very easy to navigate and get where we needed to go. I suspect it was a little harder for folks with no experience, but the guides got us all where we needed to be in a timely manner. They were informative and the glowing of the water in Laguna Grande was breath taking. We had been told to try to do it on a day with very little moon, so we went as close to the new moon as possible. The only (very small) downside of the trip was the amount of light pollution around the area. I think the glowing might have been more impressive if we had stopped in the lagoon and were facing away from the lit buildings nearby. I would recommend this trip to everyone.

Definitely take the tour on a New Moon cycle... hard to see the organisms in a Full Moon.

Had a great time... The staff is very professional!

Amazing!!!
Feb. 2020
We took our 13 and 11 year old daughters, and there were some moments that paddling out, against the current that were rough. The guides (there were 3) waited for us and made sure no one got lost. It is REALLY DARK in the mangroves leading to the bay. We took the second tour, that was supposed to start at 7:30. Thank goodness it didn't! Traffic to the bay is ridiculous in the last 3 tenths of a mile! We were staying in Luquillo and GPS said 21 minutes to the pin location. There's tons of restaurants, a very nice park, and zillions of people trying to pull their boats where you meet. I was so mad, I thought we were gonna miss out. Thankfully the 1st tour was late coming back so we had plenty of time. It's beautiful, not like the pictures you see on the internet. It's not crazy glowing blue, more like Tinkerbell sparkles behind your fingers and paddles in the water. We would all happily go again. They had snacks and water when were were done. **The Mangroves water smells AWFUL. You should plan on rinsing everything right after you get out or just pitching it. Like our water shoes. Thanks Again PR Access Tours!
