Our tour guide Mike was definitely the best! He made what was already a beautiful tour even better. We were able to stop and see the very picturesque scenery up close without being rushed. No questions went left unanswered as he was very knowledgeable about the town and history of the tour itself.

We opted for the van excursion instead of the train ride. It was definitely an exciting experience. The tour guide Mike did an excellent job in telling historical facts and also made all the stops for us to savor the place and the moment and even took our photos. It was a chilly, rainy and no sun but despite all that, there was not a moment of disappointment here. Mike was superb, he must love his job. The lady who booked our tour was also very nice and explained well what was to be expected. Worth every penny and precious time.

Beautiful scenery on a restored vintage narrow gauge train, with very well maintained and clean cars, which were very comfortable. Plenty of windows, so all passengers had good views. No matter on which side of the train you sat, as your view was from one side going, and the other side on return. The history of the area was well explained during the trip. Due to Canadian restrictions, the train no longer crosses the border, but we felt the trip was fine anyway. Our tour company added a bus tour of the town, which was a nice addition.

Frontier Excursions met us at the port and were very organized with an extremely clean tour bus. Patrick was our awesome guide. He shared a lot of historical and current events along our ride to the summit and around the town of Skagway. We enjoyed seeing beautiful waterfalls, a view of the train in motion, the majestic mountains, hearing about bears(but fortunately did not come across) and a scenic overview of Skagway. Definitely recommend.

I was visiting Skagway when i was looking at one of the shops which had excursions and the nice lady in shop explained to me all about it so i booked an excursion with them but before that i headed back to the cruise ship for my passport in which the driver drove me to and picked us up 2 hrs later for the excursion the driver is called Tyler and he made me feel very welcome and safe he also was very knowledgeable, very friendly with a great sense of humor. He drove us around the town explaining the streets and the shops he took us up to the Gold Rush cemetery and we followed the White Pass train up to the summit where Tyler had stopped at several points for us to get some photos of the beautiful scenery and on to the border of Canada. I really enjoyed this trip and i be one to remember. I was one happy bunny :) :) :) Thank You Tyler for an excellent tour

We are always more than happy to bring guests to their ships to grab passports prior to departure. It is wonderful that you were able to find the tour for you. Tyler is a great guide and knows just where to stop for all those stunning photo ops. We are glad that you had such a fun time.

This tour was awesome and the scenery was unreal. Our driver was fantastic, she knew the stories and history of the area. We stopped at a few spots for photos, she took our pictures at the Welcome to Alaska sign.It was a great excursion and the price was right.

Mike, our driver/ guide, really made this tour special with his non stop stories about Skagway and the gold rush days and all the slightly dodgy characters that made their fortunes there. All the information was relayed with a hint of dark humour which brought the past to life. We had the advantage over the train that we could stop every few minutes to admire the scenery and take photos, it's much cheaper as well. I found the gold rush cemetery especially poignant, with graves of babies and young people showing just how tough life was then.

We've been on a lot of tours and have had both good and bad experiences. We know the driver can make or break a tour, and Tyler, aka T-Bone, was head and shoulders above anyone we've ever toured with before. Knowledgeable, personable, fun - he had it all and made the drive up to the summit a pleasure. I usually bring ear plugs to tune out bad drivers who only like to hear themselves talk, and I told Tyler at the end that I never once considered using them. Skagway was by far our favorite port on our cruise, and a lot of the credit for that goes to this tour. I cannot recommend it enough!

Not really knowing what to do in our first port we booked this tour to hit all the major points in Skagway. Our tour guide was super nice and informative. I especially loved his jokes and perspective on the town. You get to see and take pictures at all the must see spots, which is always good for the photo albums. Our favorite part was the Pioneer Cemetery and the hike to the falls above it. Such beautiful scenery and history to boot! Ideal for travelers with mobility issues.

Sights that only God can create, what a great excursion. This trip explored areas around Skagway and into Canada where we saw wildlife, birds, and waterfalls that were breathtaking. The lakes along the trip gave us an opportunity to see reflects you could reach out and touch. Highly recommended Excursion.

Thanks for your review of our tour in Skagway, so much wilderness and glory in the place we share with travelers from all over the world. It is a great honor to be able to work in the tourism industry and allow people to enjoy themselves while in port. We really appreciate you choosing us for your tour while on vacation to Alaska.

Are you wheelchair accessible? We’re heading out for a cruise Friday.
Cris Siegel
Skagway, AK
Our buses do not have a wheelchair lift however we take guests that have some mobility but use a folding wheelchair for longer walking distances if they are able to board the bus by going up a few steps into the bus. Please notify us directly if you have limited mobility and use a walker or want to bring a folding wheelchair as we then know that for space needed on the bus to store the item. Also we can reserve a front seat. I am sorry we didn't see this message sooner for your situation but wanted to comment so future travelers would know.

Our cruise docks in Haines on Wednesday 28th of August.
We have to take the ferry to get to Skagway for the train. There is no way we can get there by 8.30 am.
Is there a later tour ?
Cris Siegel
Skagway, AK
Traveling from Haines to reach Skagway for our tours can be done but does involve a roundtrip on the Haines Skagway Fast Ferry and not all tour departure times we offer can work with the Ferry schedule. There is also the added expense of the Ferry trip. If someone is interested in this for future reservations you can contact us directly for more guidance. We are sorry we couldn't get you on a tour on August 28th.

Do we cross the US border, is Canadian visa required?
Cris Siegel
Skagway, AK
Passports are required. Some nationalities require Canadian and/or USA Visa. USA or Canadian citizens do not require Visas, only Passports.

What type of clothing is recommended for this tour? We're travelling Aug 2019
Cris Siegel
Skagway, AK
Weather can vary from mid-50s to 70s. Perhaps even a bit cooler at the White Pass summit in later August. Dressing in layers allows to add or remove items depending on the weather along the tour route. Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended and jacket most often needed unless is a warmer sunny day. Weather at the White Pass will be cooler than by the ship.

Is this excursion wheelchair accessible? My partner has a collapsible electric chair, but can travel short distances on crutches, and can get on and off transport.
Cris Siegel
Skagway, AK
The easiest type of wheelchair we can accommodate is the folding manual kind just due to size and weight. Generally electric scooters are heavier and harder for our staff to take on and off the bus multiple times. But if it can be made smaller in several pieces it may work if you can assist. You can always contact us for more information.

Hi, JKKildeer. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Some of the reviews mention a train portion of this tour, but in the description there isn't any mention of the train. I heard that it is best to do the bus up and the train down. Am I missing something that I should know?
Thank you,
Cris Siegel
