Overview
Top off a beautiful day in Hawaii with this relaxing evening Keauhou Bay sunset cruise and swim. On this guided cruise along the Kona coastline from Keauhou Harbor, catch a Hawaiian sunset, while enjoying fresh fruit and sushi onboard the boat. After the sun sets, you can jump into the water and observe the giant manta rays that populate this part of the Pacific Ocean.
Highlights
  • Spend the evening watching the sunset on a cruise along the Kona coast
  • Nibble on fresh fruit and sushi platter at no extra charge
  • After the sun sets, option to hop in the water and swim with manta rays
  • Provided wetsuits if you choose to swim
What to Expect
After checking in at the Keauhou Small Boat Harbor, you receive safety instructions from the crew. Following that, head toward Kuamoo Bay, where you get the chance to see lava caves, as well as cliff divers. Once out at sea, you watch the sunset, while snacking on fresh fruit and sushi. Next, you have a chance to jump in the water and swim with manta rays who like to feast on phytoplankton that’s visible with underwater dive lights. You then cruise back to the harbor, warming up with a cup of green tea on the return. Note that when booking, you need to provide the names, ages, and clothing sizes for wetsuits of all group members, along with hotel accommodation information and a contact number. Also, indicate if you and your group members are able to swim unassisted.

This is one of the most unique "adventures" I have been on. I enjoyed the cruise, but the highlight was getting in the water with the Mantra Rays. Not to worry. You don't have to be a good swimmer because you hang on the side of the "board" and watch the Mantra Rays swim under

You MUST add this to your itinerary. Bambi was a ROCK STAR captain as was her sweet Assistant who's name I forgot. She took us to a part of the island where goats roam and parrots roost in the caves. Amazing! But that's not even the best part. Night swimming with mantas was

I wish I would have known that we would be sitting at a mooring for over 1 hour and 15 minutes on a very windy day. Our whole boat got very nauseous. I realize that they cannot predict when a storm may have brewed up the night before, but even the ginger lozenges didn't curb

Upon reading your review, it's clear that you may have mistakenly put in a review for a manta tour you took with another company. Kona Ocean Experience does not ever "sit at a mooring" for ANY of our tours. Our sunset/manta tour always travels down the coast to visit a historical battle site and then we share a sushi platter while watching the sunset, before returning to "Manta Village". While there in front of the Sheraton resort, our dive guide takes our guests to view the mantas and the our captain "drifts/live boats" near-by. When on rare occasion the weather is too rough to go south for the pre-manta portion, we remain on shore at Keauhou Bay to eat our sushi platter before going out to see the mantas. And we do not have or offer ginger lozenges for motion sickness. From your review title "Beautiful rays!", we're glad to hear that you did get to see those magnificent creatures, despite the nausea you endured on your tour, whichever tour company it was you went out with!

We have scheduled this activity for our last night in Kona. Since we were staying at Sheraton Kona, the bay was 2 min walk from the lobby of the hotel, super close! When we got there, we first had to look around since Kona Ocean Experience don't have their own building, you have

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your tour with Kona Ocean Experience to share details of your personal experience. Descriptions such as yours, help others to know what they might expect when joining us for our Sunset/Manta tour and it also let's us know if we're doing a good job with our guests. Glad you got to see the wild goats along the coast that evening and enjoyed snacking on the fresh sushi and fruit platter while watching the sunset prior to your manta encounter. Great to hear that you felt lucky to see lots of mantas, and that our dive guide had his GoPro along to video and provide manta "footage" of your experience. Mahalo again, we hope you may have the opportunity to come join us again for another exciting experience!
