Highlights
  • Visit attractions outside of New Orleans without the hassle of driving
  • Stop for photo ops of alligators during the swamp tour
  • See the Oak Alley mansion with a guide and the grounds on your own
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off provided from New Orleans
What to expect
  • After hotel pickup in New Orleans, you're driven to the Oak Alley Plantation, located among the Great River Road sugar plantations alongside the Mississippi River. On arrival, stroll under majestic, 300-year-old oak trees leading up to the antebellum Big House, and take a tour of the opulent mansion with a guide dressed in period costume. The Greek Revival architecture was built in 1837 and later restored in 1925. Wander the 25-acre (10-hectare) grounds at your own pace during your free time. Visit the blacksmith shop, snap photos of antique farm equipment, or peruse exhibits on slavery and the Civil War. Grab lunch and beverages at the restaurant or cafe (own expense) before the tour moves to the swamp. Next, board the bus and drive to the site of your swamp tour. On arrival, board a 16-passenger airboat with stadium-style seating for a high-speed adventure through the swamp. You'll have unobstructed views of wildlife, including an up-close look at the star attraction: alligators.  Your captain is experienced at searching out these reptiles, even during hibernation in colder months. The airboat, propelled by a large fan that blows air from the back of the vessel, can produce speeds of up to 35 mph (56 kph). You'll ride in just inches of water into parts of the swamp that are inaccessible to traditional boats or vehicles.

Great way to spend the day.
Gary, our tour guide for the day, was friendly and accommodating. He shared plenty of tidbits of knowledge with us during the driving time. The tours at Oak Alley were well organized and timing was just right. The air boat ride was a lot of fun and informative as well. Overall, a day well spent during our trip to New Orleans!

Wonderful crew on the swamp tour. Fun feeling the boat glide sideways. Lots of information on the fauna and flora. Lots of alligators!

Oak valley is beautiful and has a great way of looking at history from many perspectives. Beautiful grounds, delicious food.

The swamp tour was amazing! Our captain was very knowledgable and gave us lots of information on the alligators and swamps and bayous. It was very peaceful.
The plantation was beautiful and it was neat to walk around and read the information. Our mansion guide, however, was very dry and overly rehearsed. Good information but conveyed in a boring manner.

The airboat ride was fantastic. We had Captain Ernie. He was funny and sassy and very knowledgeable. He told us all about the alligator life cycle, swamp tides, the local eco system, etc. He also had funny stories about his swamp upbringing. The plantation was nice, but we definitely didn’t need as much time as they gave us. 45 minutes would have been enough. The mint juleps were STRONG! really enjoyed it.

Unique Adventure!
May 2021 • Couples
My husband and I had an AMAZING time! Our driver Jimmie and tour guide Jim made an awesome team. Jim was so informative and comical. The plantation was absolutely gorgeous, our only regret was not being able to eat lunch at their restaurant, so I'd suggest going there first then doing the tour of the plantation house. The swamp tour was definitely a unique experience! We saw all kinds of wildlife and even got to hold a baby alligator! So glad we did this tour and would recommend to anyone!

The service of being picked up and dropped back off at my hotel was so convenient. The plantation was beautiful we had enough time to take the tour, walk around and eat lunch before needing to get back on the bus to the airboat ride. Be prepared the drive between the two it is a long one. The airboat road was the best. Our guide was awesome. I was so very pleased with the whole experience.

Let's hit the road on a getaway
This review is to provide a little education. I truly enjoyed both parts of the tour. Oak Ally Plantation was beautiful and picturesque with its' sprawling gardens. I enjoyed our house tour and self-guided grounds tour. It was very educational to the times. As far as the airboat ride. It was absolutely amazing. A must do for going to Louisiana!! Do it!! Captain Chaz was wonderful and we really enjoyed every part. We got to see tons of alligators and watch him interact with one on the bank! No fear! Also, Alligators eat marshmallows. We even got to hold a baby alligator. They were so cute. He did a great job and I felt safe the entire time. Okay, so here comes the educational part. It costs $25.00 to go to Oak Ally Plantation and $55.00 to do the large airboat ride which gives you a grand total of $80.00. Whereas the rest of the cost (a little over $40.00) is transport. I understand it is a little frustrating getting on and off several buses and the disorganization of the transport, but I really couldn't complain. It would cost much more to get an Uber to go to both places or rent a car. It could be worse.
