The views were amazing, and the live jazz band was fabulous. Probably the best jazz band I saw the whole time I was in New Orleans - people were actually dancing on the top deck. The dinner was just OK, the gumbo and chicken/vegetables were very bland, needed seasonings - you could get better food for a lower price outside. If you could book the cruise without the dinner option, have dinner before the cruise.

We had a fantastic experience on the City New Orleans boat, the sister boat to the Steamboat Natchez. *Note that you MUST have your COVID test or Vax info handy to board the vessel.

The experience was like something out of a movie. The dining room was elegant and we had a delicious meal. The dessert was the absolute best. They stagger your "sit-down time" for dinner so that everyone gets served in a timely manner. They have this down to a science. While you wait for your table, you can get a drink at one of the many bars and listen to the band play. The band is what brings the experience to a full 5 stars. They were absolutely fantastic and really sold the setting. When we look back on our trip to New Orleans, our dinner cruise on a riverboat with a love Jazz trio will be the memory that comes to mind.

-Gift shop is available on the boat and has reasonably priced momentos if you're into souvenirs.

I always enjoy dinner cruises, so for our 15th wedding anniversary on our recent trip to New Orleans, I booked this cruise.
Dinner was very good. In fact, I don't understand the reviews stating the food is bad? For the price of the cruise with dinner, there is nothing to complain about. Everything was tasty and cooked well. The service was fantastic.
We were unable to find seats near the band after dinner and didn't want to stand so I cannot comment on the entertainment. The sunset views were beautiful and the breeze was amazing cutting out the heat and humidity of the city.
As a venue to celebrate an anniversary, it may not have been the best choice; it wasn't a romantic experience in any way. Perhaps because we couldn't hear the music or because of the grade 8 class that were there on a school trip.
Regardless, we enjoyed the cruise.

Was not aware this was a buffet when I purchased tickets… sat down for dinner and was told by server that they were severely overbooked. Waited 45+ minutes for water. No instructions regarding how dinner was to progress. According to the table documents we were to wait to go to the buffet until invited by staff. Our staff person was working the buffet line and most of the room had already gotten up to queue the line. The line wove between tables and patrons at those tables were forced to eat with maskless strangers squeezing by them, slowly. No accommodations were offered for food allergies and no options were available. Chicken, green beans, potatoes or nothing…. At my table at my right, my elbow was bumping with the guest at the next table, on my left my elbow was bumping with a rubbish bin. Because my server was working the buffet line, no further table service was evident. Our soiled dishes sat on our table until we decided to abandon the table and sit outside. Roughly the first hour of the evening was a gentleman narrating the history of the vessel and pointing out various other vessels and landmarks. While this was mildly interesting, it was not the jazz music I was expecting.

We have to apologize for this experience. I am not sure when you purchased the dinner cruise but we have been back to a buffet style cruise for over a year. The menu is set and posted so guests would know what is served. If allergies are noted we can alert a guest as to what they may and may not want to eat on the buffet but there are some things we cannot accommodate. We appreciate you detailing the situations in the dining room that made you uncomfortable including the dishes. Nearly half the cruise is live narration and the other half is dedicated to the Trio on the rooftop deck (and televised in the diningrooms for those still dining)

First of all I would like to commend the greeters, waiters and managers for their trying to make things right. We arrived on board close to the 7 pm departure and we were assigned to the 7 pm sitting for dinner on the second deck. We went to the reception and were told they weren’t seating 7 pm yet, but we could have a drink while we waited. Lineup at the bar was very slow as there was only one bartender, so eventually I left my husband in line and went to get our table for dinner. I was told that the second deck was full and we needed to go downstairs. On deck one a harried manager was trying to seat people by putting extra tables up and even sent a table up to deck 2 then escorted us back up to be seated. He explained that they were understaffed and that the company had overbooked the dining rooms. Our waitress, Taylor, was trying to serve everyone from the buffet, but she was falling behind. The female manager brought us our salad and apologized for the wait. Taylor then brought over our meal without the chicken, explaining that she wanted us to have something. She was almost in tears trying to apologize. All this time we were trying to listen to the tour information as we cruised up river, longing to be out on the deck to enjoy the sights. We also had another waitress, Gina, come over and apologize for the wait and she brought us a glass of wine on the house. The chicken finally arrived on a small plate by itself and by then we were so annoyed we didn’t want it. Dessert was good and we tried to make sure the staff knew we weren’t angry with them, just the situation that was the fault of management. We finally made it outside to enjoy the view and listen to the jazz trio playing on the upper deck. This cruise is available without the dinner and that would be my strong recommendation if you are planning on enjoying the actual cruise and sights along the way.

Thank you for sharing. Employees in the industry are difficult to find at this time in light of the pandemic and slow re-openings. We work at keeping our good employees. We apologize for the inconvenience the evening you cruised with us and that it hampered your experience. It was not intentional.

The steamboat was nice and the staff were friendly. However, for a dinner cruise the dinner was subpar to what I expected. We were among the first ones to be seated, since I'm handicapped, and we were placed at a table with no table clothe and plastic cups. This normally would have been ok, but most all the other tables had table clothes and real glasses to drink from. The two tables next to us never had anyone seated at them. I felt as if I was placed in a spot out of the way of the other guests and made to feel less important. I do not feel this cruise was worth the money we paid. But as I stated in the beginning, the staff were nice and friendly. Honestly the guide who was narrating the tour kept repeating himself and wasn't talking about anything interesting. He sounded like he was reading from a brochure. I don't like giving bad reviews but I hope this review will help to make future cruises better and worth the money.

There was no reason for you to be seated at anything but a fully set table. This will go to the managers onboard to find out what happened. We are glad the staff were nice and friendly. The narrating guide is an officer and perhaps he knows the river so well that it did not seem spontaneous. We will mentions that as well. He has been sailing these waters with us over 45 years. If you would like to send me your reservation night and last name I would appreciate it. Send it toGuestExperiences@glnosc.com

We had a fantastic time on this trip. The food was great and the portions were perfect. I was nice to try so many things. The music on the top was very entertaining and we enjoyed dancing to it. It was great to go on the 6pm one because the first direction we learned all about what we were seeing in day light and on the return the sunset and we saw city lights. Great trip!

I booked this “jazz dinner” cruise for my daughter’s 26th birthday. We were seated promptly in the dining area. Food was served quickly and would rate average. As the boat departed, we listened to a history of the area over the intercom. There is a separate cruise that is “history” themed. There was NO jazz music during our dinner. We were told the jazz band was on upper level and would be heard throughout boat via speakers. No. History lesson. After we finished dinner we went to upper level to hear the music. VERY limited seating so be prepared to stand unless you don’t purchase dinner and go to upper level immediately. There is a bar and snack bar (nachos etc) on upper level. The band played approx 20 minutes then took a break. Came back and played another 30-40 minutes. Our overall experience was disappointing. If I had to do this again I would skip the dinner, go straight to upper level and have nachos and drinks.

We regret your disappointment. The band plays for 50 minutes beginning at boarding, and then two sets after. We do some narration about the city and port and realize that might not have been of interest to you.

We actually took a substitute boat called The City of New Orleans because presumably the Natchez was unavailable. That fact hardly mattered because our experience was still great. We walked right onto the boat at 6 pm and was ushered to our dining table on the 1st floor. We dined on very delicious buffet style chicken, pasta, potatoes, green beans, bread, gumbo, salad and bananas foster. We left very full and ventured up to the deck on the 4th floor, where we listened to live jazz music while watching the city scapes all around us. For a portion of the cruise, there was a tour guide giving us fun facts over the speaker about what we were seeing and it was informative and entertaining. The weather was beautiful and the sunset was perfect. We would do this again, hands down!

We did not chose the dinner option, so I cannot comment on that portion. I previously saw complaints about standing in line at the bar, but that was NOT a problem on this cruise. They had 4 bars open (1 per floor) and there were 2 bartenders on the floor we stayed on (4th). The band was on the 4th floor & contained a pianist, percussion, & trombone player. The band of 3 sounded pretty good, but didn't play much for it being a jazz cruise. They didn't have room to really dance near the band (but plenty of room on other floors where music could still be heard). If looking for a relaxing evening, with some pretty views & a narrative of what is being seen on along the route this is a great option.
