Good for both novice & veteran NOLA foodies, & good value
This was a nice experience at a reasonable price, very educational especially for the culinary novice to NOLA. The room was comfortable & it was fairly easy to see & hear the instructor, despite the class being full. She was very informative as to the differences between Creole & Cajun cooking, adding in some interesting historical notes while doing so. She was very good in explaining how to make a roux, which can still be challenging even for those of us who have done it before. Her chicken & sausage gumbo turned out wonderfully, high on flavor & a nice color. Ditto for her jambalaya. She also made an outstanding white chocolate & blueberry bread pudding, a nice variation on a NOLA classic, & then demonstrated how to make pralines, of course turning them out perfectly while making it look easy.

Expect to spend about 2-2.5 hours there, & you do get to eat what is cooked, probably with the options for seconds. Water, iced tea, lemonade, coffee were provided, as well as Abita Beer for those who choose. Combining the food & drink with the instruction, I’d say it’s a great value. You won’t leave stuffed but you probably won’t be hungry for a while, so don’t do this with lunch or dinner reservations planned for right afterward. The store also will likely get your attention, so you’ll want to browse a few minutes after the class is over. It’s a nice family experience but probably not something you’d want to bring kids under 10 or so to, as they’ll likely get bored with it, & it’s certainly not something for toddlers. Even if you know a thing or two about Louisiana cooking, you’ll pick up a few good tips & you’ll enjoy the presentation.

Fantastic
This was a good experience for our first time here in the city. I would highly recommend doing this towards the end of your stay rather than the middle or beginning. The space is well decorated and the chef was amazing. I HIGHLY suggest actually taking notes for the recipies if you really plan on making them. I can't remember her name, but she dropped helpful tips and tricks and ingredient information all throughout our experience. Even helpful substitutions for ingredients.

Overall, it was really great and a great way to wind down our trip here. Food was great, She was great and I would defiently do this again.

Thoroughly enjoyable
I first attended this cooking school some 14 years ago and while planning a trip to New Orleans, I wanted to attend again with my husband and our mothers. We attended the demonstration class with Chef René.We truly enjoyed learning the history of the area and it's unique cuisine. I now know the difference between gumbo and jambalaya AND how to correctly pronounce pralines ("prah-leens"). The prepared food was really delicious. The classroom was very comfortable and our mothers really enjoyed the whole experience.

Best Experience in New Orleans
Jun. 2021 • Couples
This was the best money I've ever spent as a tourist! Chef Rene was brilliant, funny, helpful, and interesting. I learned much about cooking in general as well as Cajun and Creole. The class was at 10 am, and the chef
prepared jambalaya, gumbo, bread pudding, and pralines. Our servings were so generous that my wife and I didn't eat again until 8 pm. Seriously! Don't miss this! You'll have the experience of your vacation even if you never cook without a microwave!

Learned A Lot and Ate Great Food!
May 2021
We expected to learn how to make some southern foods (gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding, pralines) in the demonstration class but had the delightful opportunity to learn a great deal about New Orleans and Louisiana cultural history. It was a fantastic way to spend the morning - and the food (yes, we got to sample all of it) was delicious! The class was informative and entertaining. A must-do for your visit to New Orleans!!
