Perfect for history lovers, this tour of the historical Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Lower Manhattan invites you into the catacombs, allowing you to see its pipe organ and venture to parts of the building that are normally closed to visitors. Beat the crowds on this small group tour and enjoy a personal encounter with this New York landmark.

What to Expect

Meet your guide at the Tommy’s New York Kiosk at 32 Prince Street and set off for the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. Not to be confused with St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown, this historical church in Lower Manhattan has been a landmark for more than 200 years, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

With just a small group for company, you learn about the church’s history, as well as the famous names who once frequented it (and who still rest in its catacombs), including the first resident bishop of New York City. The tour includes the rare opportunity to explore the catacombs, as well as other areas of the landmark that are normally barred to visitors.

On the tour, discover the church’s pipe organ, tour its two walled cemeteries, explore the choir loft, and more. As you go, your guide will share stories about its place in New York history.

Dan knows his tour!

Dan did an excellent job on the tour. It was great. This tour was a lot better than I expected. It was very entertaining, interesting and a great history of NYC! I highly recommend it.

Fun tour, great guide, well worth the $$$

The tour of the Catacombs was fascinating, good detail on the history and the people buried there. Dan, our guide, was fantastic, and very knowledgeable with Old St. Patrick's. Also included were unexpected perks, a tour of the grounds surrounding the building, a detour to...More

Excellent Tour, Awesome Guide, and Really Interesting Location

Pro Tip: This is not the big St. Patrick's Cathedral. Many people on our tour accidentally went there first. You'll learn why there are TWO St. Patrick's on the tour. Dan was a great tour guide and the company seems to have a very close...More

Excellent guide provides entertaining stories (all of which are true).

Around 1 1/2 hours of history of the Catholic Church and other stories about New York which I thoroughly enjoyed even though I am not Catholic or religious.

Captivating experience. Tour guide leads you through the catacombs under Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral as well as surrounding cemetery. There is much to say about the role of Catholic immigrants and the Catholic Church in New York City history (and more broadly American...More

The tour takes you in and out of a building, across a street, around in a yard (over uneven natural ground in a cemetery), up and down a few stairs (not many at a time), and along hallways. It also leads you along a set of... More

I think she could do it. There some steps involved to enter and leave the catacomb. She can enjoy most of the tour from the wheel chair. She will have to forego the choir loft.

Judy, your mom would have to dsecend two sets of stairs, the first about 5 steps into the building across the street (the former elementary school, where the intro to the tour is offered) and about 10 steps from the... More
