About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Immygrace4570 contributions10/10 ExperienceThis was amazing. Great date night idea. Chef Ed Kelly and Olga were fabulous! We made several seafood dishes which all tasted amazing. It was great because you could make your dish personal to you - if you didn’t like something simply don’t include it . Again a massive thank you to Ed and Olga - professional and great at what they do.Written 15 September 2024
- 660katarinah0 contributionsAwful & not a real cooking classAdvertised as 20 maximum and there were 40 people. Everything was slow due to class size. Ingredients were pre-chopped and pre-mixed, dipping sauces from a bottle! Lots of drunk, loud, obnoxious attendees due to all the wine carafes. Guy with allergies (instructor not told ahead of time) and everything had to be separated (one of the dumplings was shrimp!). Not a real cooking class and definitely not worth $140!Written 15 November 2023
- tominf0 contributionsGreat Mexican ClassWe went to the Mexican Fiesta cooking class and had a fantastic experience. The whole night was extremely organized and well run. There were about 12 people in the class including us and the chefs did a great job of bringing everyone together to prepare the dishes. There was plenty of food (which was delicious) and we were even able to take some home. We definitely plan to try their other classes in the future.Written 25 March 2023
- crosbyl20230 contributionsIncredible EveningTook part in the Italian cooking class and was absolutely thrilled! Learned plenty of incredible cooking tips and tricks (as well as facts) throughout the whole thing while listening to great music, drinking wine, and enjoying ourselves. Chef John led the class and he was absolutely great! He orchestrated a friendly environment that made every participant feel welcome while also putting on a great show. We did everything from creating our own tiramisu, making mozzarella from scratch, and three different pastas! The staff around John were also great and incredibly helpful as well! Looking forward to the next class at Selfup!Written 8 January 2023
- gregsZ7066JP0 contributionsGreat fun chance to cook outside comfort zoneChef Gary and Owen provided a great cooking class where we all made fresh mozzarella, pasta, ravioli, fettuccine, and tiramisu. The chef also made great marinara sauce and chicken marsala to round out the dinner. The group was about 25 people and we all had an opportunity to make food. There are opportunities if you want to do more in the kitchen.Written 8 October 2022
- John S0 contributionsFun and informative cooking classWe had a great time. Chef John was terrific - high energy and nice balance of fun and instruction. My wife likes to cook - and me, not so much - the fact that we both enjoyed the class a testament to Chef John's skill. Highly recommended.Written 21 February 2022
- cjwish20960 contributionsFrench Bistro Class w/ Joe MThis class is a MUST. Unbelievable experience with Joe as the instructor. His class and expertise make this entire experience complete. Without him, I’m not sure our experience would’ve been as good as it was. The food was incredible, and also easy to recreate if you so desire to recreate the dish at home. Definitely consider this class, even if french bistro isn’t your top choice. You will not be disappointed!Written 18 September 2021
- W6196QEsarahl0 contributionsBirthday Pizza Making ClassThis was an amazing experience! Chef Joe was fun, personable, funny, and a great teacher! We kneaded and made our own dough, experimented with toppings, and ate delicious pizza. We made about 12 pizzas, to go along with a great salad and wine! I can’t recommend this experience enough!!Written 9 September 2021

- guest5750 contributionsFantastic Evening5 lifelong girlfriends gathered for an evening with Chef Joe Maglio and the lovely Oceana for the Italian cooking class. The evening surpassed all of our expectations! It was filled with learning, great food and wine and lots of laughs. It was a hands on dinner party with strangers who shortly became friends. Chef Joe and Oceana were remarkable leaders and hosts and their charismatic personalities and patience made the evening one for the books. I would choose a Selfup cooking class over dinner out at a restaurant anytime!Written 9 March 2020
- mdelphii0 contributionsFantastic Experience very accommodatingWe originally signed up for the gluten free class but due to lack of additional sign ups we were asked if it would be okay for us to join the other Italian cooking class going on. They were very up front that we would still maintain a gluten free environment for my partner and I and they were very accommodating to make sure we had a good experience. The Chef and his team were fun, knowledgeable and for us went out of their way to make sure we were okay and comfortable. Overall a very positive experience and would look forward to other Gluten free classes in the future.Written 9 March 2020
- rachelsC2727AZ0 contributionsSuch a fun date night! We had a great time with Chef Rudy and loved our pasta making experience! We had so much fun cooking and meeting new people! The only thing that I think I would change is making take out containers available- there was so much wasted food!Written 9 March 2020

We had an amazing experience on our company team outing today! Chef Ed was a phenomenal head chef who gave great instructions and coached us seamlessly through the entire process. Chef Owen was also quick to set up the different areas for us to make the process easy! They constantly asked questions to keep us involved and the meal at the end was so delicious ! Definitely will be coming back with friends next time!

Chef Rudy was awesome! Extremely energetic and witty. My wife and I had a great time and the rest of the attendees were great as well. I do wish we were able to make the sauces ourselves as well but it was understandable due to time and resources restrictions. Otherwise it was a blast and the perfect date night in Boston.

My boyfriend and I joined this cooking class as a birthday gift. We had a great time! At first, we were worried it might not be as interactive as we hoped but there was a lot of participation. We were seated at tables with other groups and asked to come to the kitchen multiple times throughout the night to watch the chef and then make our own tiramisu, fettuccine, and ravioli. They had wine, soda, and water for us to drink, and the food was amazing. We had a really good time with our table, and overall, a super fun night. I would definitely recommend this!

Disappointed. Too many people taking the class, so it was hard to learn and there weren’t enough supplies for everyone to participate in what we were shown. Several things were premade or cooked without us, so we didn’t get to learn how to make them (cream for tiramisu, sauce for ravioli, ravioli filling, chicken in chicken Marsala, etc). The food tasted good, but I was told I could find recipes online and have yet to locate them. Almost everything we made was mixed with what other participants made, so it’s likely you end up eating the product of someone else’s work. We did not eat as we made the food, so we waited about 2 hours before eating anything, and we got very hungry. I much prefer a class like Sur la Table where you are involved in every step, eat as you cook, and eat exactly what you cook.

We had such a great time and are excited to share our new found cooking talents with our friends and family at home. Rudy was amazing! We not only learned how to make pasta, mozzarella and tiramisu, we had a great time and so many laughs with our group. Overall, we would highly recommend this experience!

So much fun and so educational at the same time. I received the Italian cooking class as a Mother's Day gift from my son. My husband, son, and I went to the class in Boston together, and the three of us learned so much and had a great time. Chef John was awesome! He taught us so much and the night flew by. Chef John made sure that everyone in the class participated and that we all had fun. We learned how to make Chicken Marsala, ravioli, fettuccini, pasta sauce, and stretched and made mozzarella cheese. Who knew what went into that Process! Wine and soft drinks and snacks were available all night, then we ended the evening by eating the food we made together. This was a great experience and we thought it was well worth the money. I would recommend this Self Up class, and we plan on signing up for more of the Self Up classes. Thank you Chef John and Self Up! :)

I went in with a group of about 20 colleagues last week for an Italian inspired cooking class. We prepared tiramisu, fresh mozzarella, and fresh pasta (fettuccini and ravioli). The dinner which added on chicken marsala (served with our fettuccini) was delicious! Thank you to Chef Gary, Dana and the rest of the Selfup Boston team who made this such a wonderful time!

Our chef, Oceana, was absolutely amazing in every way! She took the time to explain everything, even when we had dumb questions. She was very knowledgeable and made us feel all so comfortable no matter what level we were at! I haven't had that much fun and laughed so hard in a long time. Oh... and the food was absolutely amazing!!! It was supposed to be all about the food, but it was so much more! I cannot wait for my next class! Thank you for such an amazing experience.

Fun experience, everyone participates, Our group of seven ladies had a great time. The chef and his staff were engaging and attentive to everyone. The food we made was delicious. We are going to make events at Selfup a tradition. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon. It would be great if they sold the Selfup aprons!

What an awesome experience! We had such a good time! Chef John and his staff were so engaging and created a fun time for us. We learned all sorts of tricks of the trade and prepared a delicious 4 course meal. Beer and wine included. Would be a great group activity or date night. Can't wait to try the Mexican experience he told us about last night.

Can a mature, well behaved 11 year old kid do the cooking class too?
