- Jameelah S0 contributionsLocal Day TripPerfect local day tour for getting away but staying close to home (Boston). Matt, our mainland tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. He was very kind and helpful. He showed us where we could grab breakfast when we got to the port. Mark, our driver on the island, was kind and comical. He is a resident of the island and made it enjoyable.Written 3 October 2024

- Alan R0 contributionsFantastic tripThe trip was great and highly recommended however maybe worthwhile contacting the tour operator the day before as he had no record of our trip advisor booking and would have been left behind without a last minute phone call. Matt was very informative and we had plenty time to enjoy each stop, Stunning scenery all along the way.Written 8 September 2024
- erinkX7635CT0 contributionsFun family tripMatt was great, knowledgeable and fun. The trolly tour was great and a good way to see the town. The salem witch museum was just ok and maybe not the best for small children. House of seven gables was excellent. I do wish we had more time to shop and walk around on our own.Written 5 September 2024
- Curious506799312890 contributionsGreat time!Matt did a great job getting our group from spot to spot. He had a lot of knowledge about Boston and Salem. The trolley tour, Witch Museum and House of Seven Gables were great. I honestly enjoyed the house of seven Gables more than I thought I would. Only complaint was that the seats on the trolley were way too small.Written 5 September 2024

- Rich30550 contributionsEnjoyable but a long day of sittingGenerally, it was an enjoyable excursion. The tour operator did a good job of communicating where to be when. Pick up at the hotel was very convenient. Matt was a good guide; knowledgeable and funny. He kept us entertained and engaged for the 90 minutes it took to get to the Woods Hole ferry. The ferry was slow and a bit confusing if you’ve never been on it. You board on one side and disembark on the opposite side, which was a problem when we sat on the wrong side and large groups of slow moving people were between us and the exit. The tour operator on Martha’s Vineyard did a good job communicating where to meet up after getting off the ferry; although some were looking for a sign and didn’t check their phones for a message from the guide. Jim was a very knowledgeable guide, but gave a lot of minute details that caused me to fade in and out. So I didn’t catch a lot of what he said. He clearly knows a lot about Martha’s Vineyard and he did a good job getting us around the island. We stopped for a few minutes at a couple of spots, but spent most of the time riding in a van. We were disappointed to learn after the fact that John Belushi is buried on the island and we drove right by his grave, but Jim made no mention of it. Or maybe he did and I just faded out during that part. Martha’s Vineyard was not what I expected and it was very crowded in spots. The beaches were narrow and there were no waves. The coastal views were nice but we spent a fair amount of time driving across the island so we didn’t get a lot of those coastal views. I didn’t really see the appeal of Martha’s Vineyard. It was okay, but i don’t have any desire to go back. The return trip back to Boston was good. Matt did his best to make it as comfortable as possible. There was a huge traffic jam that he was able to avoid, which was much appreciated after a long day of riding around in cramped vans. Matt had tons of restaurant recommendations for downtown Boston and that was a huge help. I would certainly consider New England Excursions in the future but I wouldn’t go back to Martha’s Vineyard; unless I happened to be in or around Cape Cod and had nothing better to do that day 😉.Written 28 August 2024

We had an amazing day with Matt exploring the fall foliage from Boston up through the White Mountains of New Hampshire with a small private group. Matt was prompt, super flexible, and allowed us to set the pace of the day - we never felt rushed or like we were dawdling anywhere, and were able to see everything we wanted to see. He took us to some hidden gems with great colors and photo opportunities, and allowed us time for lunch and shopping as well. We were kept well-informed about bathroom situations, as this is a tour through the mountains - and it was never an issue for our group. It was a lovely relaxed day with absolutely stunning weather, and Matt was a great host and guide. Thank you for the hospitality!

We had an excellent fall foliage tour along the Kancamagus Highway and around the White Mountain National Forest with Matthew of New England Excursions. Matthew was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the region as he has walked many of its trails and led tours for seven years. His expertise took us to some excellent locations to see the foliage and take photos. The trip included frequent stops and toilet breaks along with a good lunch stop at North Conway. Altogether as excellent value for money day during which you learn lots and see some amazing views of some of the best nature can offer.

The route through the national park was very attractive and, thanks to the sunny weather, a spectacle of colour that can only be experienced in Indian Summer. At six stops, the 12 guests in the minibus were offered the opportunity to take short hikes on their own through the autumn forest and along streams and foaming small waterfalls. At noon we were offered 90 minutes break in the tourist town of Conway, where a wide range of restaurants offered the opportunity for individual meals.
Our guide Rory came out as an ex-soldier and life artist, was quite amusing. The only pity was that he contributed rather little information to history, country and people.

Our tour guide was great. We traveled late in the season, so he warned us in advance that some areas would not be as spectacular as they were earlier in the season. But they were still beautiful. I really appreciated the honesty. Having said that, he was very knowledgeable and informative about the area and gave some great recommendations on things to see. He made frequent stops for us to move around and take beautiful pictures, including several short hikes with gorgeous surprises at the end of them. We did stop at a small town with plenty of time for lunch and time to shop and explore before finishing the second half of the trip.

It was amazing to visit white mountains and concord for the day. Had the chance to see beautiful colors of Autumn. The commute from Boston was easy as it was arranged in a nice cozy van drive by a very humble driver. A must trip in October.

I had a wonderful time on the all day Fall Foliage tour last week! The owner and guide, Matt, is very knowledgeable about the area and shared a lot of facts and fun information that made the tour interesting and interactive. He knew all the great places to stop for apple cider donuts, photos, waterfall hike, lunch, and great scenic views. I highly recommend this tour!

What an amazing experience made perfect by Matt. He was brilliant. He knew all the best places to stop from his many years of trekking in the White Mountains and had lots of entertaining stories. I had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, take photos, never felt rushed but also wasn’t hanging around waiting to move on. I would highly recommend this company

I'm so glad I booked this tour as I had stopped off in Boston for a long weekend on my way back to the UK and really wanted to experience the Fall colours. It was a most enjoyable day being driven through the White Mountains Trail in New Hampshire. Spectacular scenery, with plenty of opportunity to stop for photos along the way. There were other solo travellers, like me, on the minibus and everyone was so friendly that some of us had lunch together when we stopped at North Conway , where there was a great selection of restaurants. Our driver Rory was also good company; he was well-informed about the area and an excellent driver. Thank you!

They fall colors we’re pretty on Sunday, September 30 th when we were in the White Mountains. They were not at peak colors though.

We are planning to be in Boston this week. Have the colors started to change? I see the previous excellent reviews are from October last year...hoping it isn't too early for this tour.
Written 24 September 2019
Took tour on 27 Sept 2019. Colours just beginning to change, but the trip with Matt from New England Excursions was excellent and Matt looked after us all, giving us such a good day. The colours may not be at their best yet, but look on the colours as a bonus and you'll have a great day. Happy leaf peeping!

What is the level of difficulty for the walking part of the tour? I will be traveling with my 76 year old mother. I would interested in your other tours as well. We are looking for beautiful beaches and / or fall colors in conjunction with a couple day visit to Boston. Our first time in the area from California. Trying to decide between a visit in the Fall or Spring (early April).
Thank you for your time.

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out. The level of difficulty for the fall foliage tour is easy to lightly moderate. One of the hikes has a small incline, at he top of the incline is a waterfall I'd like to show the group, then some stairs to climb. Of course, this hike is not mandatory.
If you're deciding between the Spring and fall, I would highly recommend fall. Early April is very slow around here and the weather could still be bad.
Thanks!
