I had a last minute work trip to Guatemala with some free time so wanted to plan a trip to Tikal. The company with tons of reviews was unavailable on my free day. I was hesitant to book with Maya World Tours as they didn’t have many reviews but took a chance. Noel has 25 years of experience and was kind and professional. I told him I was interested in the local birds and he pointed different ones out as we went along. Climbing the pyramids is an out-of-this-world experience and I am so glad I went! The only issue we had was a ~2 hour delay departing Guatemala City but I can’t hold the company at fault for nature.

Experience of a Lifetime
Seeing the ruins at Tikal is an experience I'll never forget, and I thank Maya World Day Tours for making it possible. I'm not here to sell you on the idea of going to Tikal; you've probably already figured out you want to go. What I will say is don't let that one other review from the person who had difficulty at the airport for Tag vs. Avianca airlines scare you. The day I went Maya was using Tag, and there was no confusion on this point. If you have any doubts just give them a call. Talk to Hector. I had to get up at 3:30am to make the flight but it was worth it. Recommend you try to go to bed early the night before but who are we kidding you'll probably stay up too late like me and be a little tired the next day. But that's OK. I was the only native english speaker in a tour group of 7. Maya went out of their way to accommodate. I didn't get the guy's name but another tour guide had extensive information about Tikal and shared all of it; he was basically attached to me 1-on-1 for the english portion of the tour. My spanish is functional so eventually I said I wanted to be reintegrated with the rest of the group. The rest of the group was friendly and accepted me despite some language difficulties. I wish I had prepared better for food. I only had a banana and some peanuts for breakfast. You should eat a big breakfast! You're going to use up so much energy hiking and climbing all day, and you can't bring snacks in with you because of park rules so don't think you can just eat a light breakfast and then snack later. To be fair, you will have opportunities to snack when you arrive at the Flores airport, as well as twice on the tour itself, but the first snack break on the tour doesn't happen until maybe 2-3 hours in. It was hot. I wore one of those special golfing shirts with the nanofabric that wicks away sweat and it helped a ton. I didn't bother to bring a sweatshirt or long sleeve shirt, just the golf shirt. I wore convertible pants that you can take the legs off of and converted them to shorts about half way into the tour. I also wore sandals. Let's say I was a little preoccupied about the heat. But for a gringo from Ohio I'm not as well adapted as the locals to the hot humid conditions so I needed any help I could get. I also brought a ball cap which helped. I didn't wear sunscreen and didn't get burned, because most of the time you're under the canopy and not in direct sunlight. I tried to be respectful, quiet, and solemn. This is a place of reverence. It was a looooooong day but worth it. I left my hotel at 4:15am and didn't get back until maybe 8:30pm. But this was an amazing day I'll never forget. Thank you Maya Tours!

This review is for Maya World tours not Tikal. We never got to Tikal
The only reason that my wife and I flew to Guatemala was to take this trip. We got to the hotel about 11 pm on the 7th so we could have a day of rest before Maya's tour. We were instructed to be at the airport by 5 am on the 9th. We were there at 4:50 am. The paper work said, please be there at least 1 hr. before departure to complete registration. I was sure that there would be an agent of Maya there to meet all going on the tour. NO ONE! No signs, nothing. So we went to the TAG air lines counter and found out that they had no booking for us. We then went to the information desk to find out if they knew anything about Maya world tours. They told us the they had an office out front and two floors down. After running down there the guard told us that they never come in until after 6 am. We then found a restaurant with wifi and called offi Viator's office where after being on line for five minuets of BS we finally got to talk to a real person who called Maya and got a number for Hector Salator an agent of Maya in Guatemala. We called him. He was in SantaElena, Peten with the bus. He did tell us that we were booked on Avianca air not TAG but did not tell that the departure time had changed. We ran up to the Avancia desk getting there at 5:55 and were told that, yes we were booked on the flight but it was leaving at 6:00 am and it was to late to get on. This was all Maya's fault. All the hell they had to do was leave a message with TAG air to tell anyone coming there to go to Avianca air and that would have solved a lot. WE are out of three days of our lives, two round trip airline tickets, $302.02 and hotel cost, $125.00 all because they are idiots. They did send me an email on the 8th at12:52 pm but we were at a small B&B in Guatemala with no access to email. I think they should and need to reimburse my airline tickets of $302.02 and my B&B cost of $125. They did have Viator refund my tour cost but have not answered Viator's request for the refund of my trip cost after all most three weeks

This tour was honestly one of the best tours in Guatemala, the tour guide was really nice and made sure we had enough time at each site. Explained the sites very well.

Great guide - fantastic experience
I was picked up from my Flores hotel for a tour of Tikal - a little late but they had called my hotel to inform me that they were on the way. In spite of rain all day it was an amazing experience made all the more pleasant by our very knowledgeable English speaking guide, Nixon. Not only knowledgeable about Tikal but about Mayan culture and language, the plants and animals, and history of the area. Great day.

Best service EVER
We booked a tour to Tikal and Yaxha kind of last minute just after Xmas day. Everything was fully booked but nevertheless Liz instead of telling us it was not possible, she did EVERYTHING to make this trip possible as we only had the Monday (after a Xmas long weekend) to go. She managed to have a private flight for us on Monday at 5am AND she was there to receive us. That was amazing. Her commitment was impressive. Thank you Liz. You made our dream come true in such an amazing way. The tour in Tikal and Yaxha was also amazing. Our driver and our guide were absolutely great.

Scam company - overpriced tours
We were advised to book a tour to Tikal and Yaxcha with this company via our hotel in Flores. Whist we enjoyed both tours, and the tour guide Nixon was great, the day after finishing our tour, we found out we'd been ripped off. We (embarrassingly) didn't do much looking around for tours as we were tired from an overnight bus journey. But we suffered due to our stupidity! Maya World Tours charge THREE times what other private companies did. They do this by overly charging for the private transport. It is a scam and we were advised to report them to the police (which we didn't do as we didn't have time). Instead, we spoke to the owner who gave us a small refund so we wouldn't give them a bad review. He admitted they overcharged, but said he was doing nothing wrong as they are a private tour company, and stupid people like us pay! Great tour guide, but outrageous prices. Avoid at all costs.

Terribly disappointed
We recently went on a Maya World tour of Tikal. We asked for and confirmed several times that we would have an English-speaking guide. We were picked up at 8am at our hotel and taken to the airport, where all the guides and buses meet the tourists. We were introduced to our guide, Carlos who said he would ride ahead and meet us at Tikal. When we got there, our bus-guide informed us in Spanish (my son speaks some) that Carlos had possibly gone off with another group, and there were no other English-speaking guides for us. We had to spend the tour with a Spanish-speaking group and guide. We were very disappointed, but had no choice at that point. In addition, the tour is called for 8am-3pm, but its really 8am-5pm, and we were only at Tikal from 1130am-200pm! It was so aggravating!! The changeover to the buses at the airport killed an hour, then we went about 25 mins out of the way to pick up a couple at a remote hotel, then we had a forced stop at the restaurant we would be having lunch at AFTER the day's tour, and wasted 45 mins at their gift shop, then a long ride to Tikal. Pretty much the same thing going home - who needs a big lunch at 300pm? I so regretted not spending the extra $20/pp to have a private guide and our own schedule for transportation. This is the best suggestion I can give you!

Visita a Tikal
