About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- lauraz460740 contributionsMust visitThank you, Wes, for taking us to see the Smoky Mountains for the first time in our lives. It was an unforgettable experience, and we learned so much about the history of the mountains, the Elkmont Club, and the Cherokee communities. It was amazing to discover that elk can only be seen in the North Carolina part of the park, and we were lucky to see them during our visit! Wes went above and beyond to help us spot wildlife in the mountains, and we truly appreciate his effort and dedication. This trip was both educational and enjoyable, and we are so grateful for the experience. Highly recommend Wes to anyone looking to explore the Smoky Mountains!Written 21 January 2025
- Imyourtallcool10 contributionsWorth it!We climbed to the top of the Clingmans Dome. We are in our 60's and believe me it wasn't easy, but we did it! The hike to the actual dome is paved, but it is quite the trek and fairly steep. There are plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. We used our trekking poles Make sure you take water. We arrived on a weekday around 10:00am in late October and were able to find a parking space. It was packed when we left with a long line to get in. Get there early! The views at the top were worth it!Written 13 January 2025
- G7287QOmb0 contributionsYou can see forever on a clear dayVery cool spot. If you’re in Gatlinburg on a hot day, like I was - it was 94, we came up to Clingmans Dome and it was 75. Awesome. Walked up the 1/4 mile paved path, it is steep. But there are benches to rest on if needed. Once up there, it was a beautiful clear day and you could see forever. I think you can see 7 states up there. Half way up I seen a big lake to the left. I was told that was Fontana dam and though it looked close, it’s like 25 miles away. The Dragons Tail is over there. So we drove over there next. Good times.Written 12 December 2024
- Mary Kay D0 contributionsGreat ExperienceWes was a great tour guide of the Smokey Mountains. He took us to view beautiful scenery and provided so much history about the park. This tour was well worth the money!Written 8 December 2024
- HARLETA N0 contributionsAsk for Shannon as your Guide!Shannon was friendly and made sure we get our money worth. I expressed that my mom is highly interested in Native American culture, she was visiting for the holiday from Indonesia so obviously she doesn’t know much. Shannon immediately point her to the actual history of Cherokee Native American tailored to our interest. She also willing to drive around quickly to Native American area which we really enjoyed to know how Native American lives. Shannon is also knowledgeable about nature, we learned some interesting plans fact along the way. When we expressed that we would love to try elk and we don’t bring our car. she offered the last hour to find elk jerky and dropped us off in the hotel. Plus, Shannon is very respectful and friendly which makes us international tourist comfortable with her. I would recommend Shannon to any international traveler!Written 4 December 2024

- 585marien0 contributionsTouring Cades CoveI highly recommend Smoky Mountain Guides when you are looking for a tour of Smoky Mountain National Park. Their customer service is excellent, even calling us in advance to make arrangements to meet us near our resort where we could leave our vehicle in a safe, free parking lot. They also offered to order lunch for us since our tour would last into the afternoon. Our guide, Phil, was outstanding. He was friendly, courteous and considerate, doing everything he could to make our tour the best experience possible. He asked us about our interests and then planned our stops accordingly. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the people who lived, worked and developed Cades Cove and he shared with us stories about their amazing lives. We particularly appreciated that Phil planned a special stop for lunch where we could take in the sights and sounds of a bubbling brook while we enjoyed our meal. He also helped us capture our memories in some amazing photos.Written 18 November 2024
- L4539AAjg0 contributionsOutstanding guided hike!!Kindel did a fantastic job as our guide on the Chimney Tops Trail in Great Smoky Mountain National Park!!! It was exactly what I was hoping for when I booked a guided hike with Smoky Mountain Guides for our group of 6, and it even exceeded my expectations. Her enthusiasm and joy for the park were contagious. She was extremely knowledgeable about the trail, the plants, and the animals. Kindel was just a lot of fun to hang around with and made our group of 6 over 60-year-old hikers feel much younger! Also, Kindel recommended a super hike for our group to do on our own for Wednesday: Andrews Bald and the loop trail to the top of Clingman's Dome. It was an excellent suggestion and was the perfect hike for our group. We really enjoyed the hike and all the beautiful views from the trail and from the top of the Clingman's Dome tower. I highly recommend booking a guided hike in the Smokies with them! -JessWritten 15 November 2024
- C1337VLchrisc0 contributionsIt’s a must!Absolutely would recommend a tour with Smokey mountain guides and if you have any luck, you’ll have Wes! His knowledge of the Great Smokey Mountains is exceptional and his great sense of humor was aWESome. He’s like Mary Poppins of the mountains with his backpack and umbrella. The hike was educational, fun and we would do it all again tomorrow. Do not hesitate to book with them!Written 14 November 2024
- Escape570182297980 contributionsClassic National Tour of Great Smoky MountainsThis was a last minute booking and I’m so glad we took the Classic Natl. Park tour. Wes, our tour guide, was excellent. He was a great storyteller with many first hand accounts of the Great Smoky Mountains. He tried to personalize the experience for each person on the tour. Definitely recommend this tour!Written 14 November 2024

- Mary O0 contributionsGreat detailed TourPhilip B. gave us a fantastic tour! Many historical points, geared the tour towards our interests. Phil was a fountain of historical information and a downright great person! Enjoyed meeting him and our detailed introduction to the Smoky Mountains! Answered my many questions. Saw some gorgeous fall foliage and incredible views. Saw a couple of wild turkeys, but alas, no bears today! Phil gave it his best shot. Gave us some good info for the remainder of our trip. Lots of photo stops, took our picture many times, and provided a safe, comfortable ride. Highly recommend!Written 30 October 2024

Rarely do I complete a review; however, it was a 'must do' after my experience on the Appalachian Waterfalls Hike. Excellent communication prior to the hike was a plus. The guide, John, took the time to share his knowledge of the land and history while we were hiking. He answered any questions (big or small) that I had as a newbie on the Appalachian trail. At one point I asked the guide if I was asking too many questions or diverting to new sights too often on the hike and he graciously said, "This is your hike and I want you to enjoy your day." The pressure was off and off we went! The day was divine as I was guided through the woods with the symphony of the waterfalls. Towards the end, I told John "this must be what heaven is like!" Thank you for the awesome day and experience Smokey Mountain Guides!!

I took the Appalachian Waterfalls Trail Hike with Mark today 10/29/24. I had a fantastic tour and Mark was very accommodating to my needs. The tour overall was roughy about 3 hours long and we had a chance to view the Spruce Flat Falls. Mark was an expert guide and had all the necessities with him- including hiking sticks, water and snacks with a backpack to store any jackets etc. The hike was easy to moderate and we took a few short breaks. Overall it was a fantastic day with great weather and I really enjoyed it! Would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to tour the Smoky Mountains National Park.

We had an amazing time and the tour was perfect for our family. Our kids (13,11,9) loved the hike and all three had no problems throughout the hike, Our guide, Kindel, was early at our meeting point and she was very knowledgeable of the hiking area, history and plant identification. The hike ended with a dip in the stream with all three of my kids joining our guide in the water!! I strongly recommend this company and our guide Kindel!!

Wonderful experience! My fantastic tour guide was Wes who is a native of the area and exceptionally versed in the area and habitat. This tour takes you to the road less traveled, and let's you experience some hidden gems of the park in peace. Can't wait to come back with friends. Highly recommend!
