About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- peterrA9788DN0 contributionsAn exceptional experienceExcellent service, exceptional food, with a tale for each course to tell you something of where the food came from. A nice relaxed pace, a degustation menu with wines to match, tho’ you can choose beer(s) or a mock tail if you prefer, all local. We had some dietary requirements that were no problem for the Q Train team. We travelled to and from with Fab Wheels, and Fabrice looked after us with great care and service - Thank you Fabrice, thank you Q Train (and Jess)Written 19 January 2025

- nige670 contributionsYou have to do thisWhat an amazing experience, I booked first class as a treat for my elderly father, over from Adelaide, and I to enjoy. It was a perfect blissful three hours. I loved that everything on the five course degustation menu, food and wine, was locally sourced and the provenance explained. Soo delicious, our taste buds were dancing, and the servings generous. Plus this is a local family run business, so worth supporting. The service from all the crew is lovely, and Georgia looked after us both faultlessly. My dad is still in awe of this experience, and so am I.Written 13 November 2024
- akjordan26800 contributionsAn interesting dining experienceThe Q Train is an initiative of a local family who saw an opportunity to buy decommissioned trains, to repair and refurbish them and then create a unique dining experience. The train is painted baby blue and on arrival staff provide you with a glass of bubbles and an opportunity to have your photo taken on the red carpet. Most days the train in pulled by a diesel engine but on occasion a steam engine is used which, in my opinion, would make for a more interesting experience. Diners are treated to a 4 course set menu meal whilst travelling in a beautifully decked out carriage with heritage and art deco accents and a gentle rolling sensation as the train moves slowly between Drysdale and Queenscliff and back again. For those who didn’t have to drive you could have your meal paired with wine but unfortunately that was not for us so we each enjoyed a glass of bubbles on arrival and another lovely Pinot Noir with our meal. The food was beautiful, and the staff were very friendly and professional. They are obviously a well oiled machine especially given the restrictions they must experience in the kitchen. The whole dining experience takes about 3 hours and its not a bad way to spend an afternoon. If I have a negative of any sort it’s that the view along the journey is a little bit bland. Unlike other train trips I have done that have breathtaking views, something unique or special, the Q train initially travels through the outer edges of suburbia of Drysdale through to grazing land with a smattering of cows and on to Queenscliff. There are some interesting wetlands with the requisite birdlife but other than that it was underwhelming. There are a couple of stops on the first leg so passengers can step off and stretch their legs however having said that there was nothing at the stops to provide any interest. One of the stops was adjacent to a winery but even then, there was nothing to do, see or taste. Once at Queenscliff the engine is coupled on to the other end of the train and the journey back to Drysdale begins. As dining experience I would recommend the Q Train as the food, sourced locally from the Ottways, Bellarine and Geelong areas was fresh, tasty and well presented but as an experience in and of itself I don’t think I would go out of my way again to do it again.Written 28 October 2024

- twotravellers790 contributionsA great day outThe Q train is an amazing experience and one I would highly recommend to anyone ( it would be a wonderful treat for visitors from overseas ) to do any time of the year. The organization was seamless from the ferry ride leaving Dockland ( with Port Phillip ferries ) to the transfers, arrival and departure. The hospitality started with a welcome glass of bubbly before we moved to a comfortable private dining ‘ room ‘. Jayden and Jess our servers were lovely, informative and professional. That being said all the staff we chatted with were very nice. The food and wine match was well thought out and extremely tasty. My husband opted for the non alcoholic drinks and they were really, really nice.Written 17 July 2024
- Bryan W0 contributionsA Wild Adventure on the Q TrainThe Q Train in first class was sensational. The private cabin was awesome and the five course meal paired with local wines and craft beer was fantasticWritten 26 May 2024
- S3732XFwendyb0 contributionsFantastic day outEverything about our trip on the Q Train on 29 April was fantastic. The staff who greeted us were welcoming and our server Montana was knowledgeable, personable and a joy to meet. The first class compartment made us feel very special and provided a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the wonderful wildlife you see along the journey. The 5 course menu was superb. I would go back again just to have the creme brulee. If I could give 11/10 I would.Written 4 May 2024
- 299PeterD0 contributionsA day of WOW.Sensational day dining onboard the Q Train whilst travelling along Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula. The adventure began with a ferry ride from Melbourne’s Dockands across Port Phillip Bay to historic Portarglington, followed by a bus transfer to meet our train at Drysdale, a rural township near Geelong. There we were greeted by the friendly staff with an arrival drink and snack before alighting the First Class carriage and shown to our private dining compartment. With picturesque scenery en route to Queenscliff, we enjoyed a phenomenal degustation lunch, showcasing the superior quality of local producers, and matched with some of the region’s exceptional wines. A family-run business, the service from Daniel, Shaz and Jayden was outstanding, making this unique experience something we would definitely love to repeat.Written 21 April 2024

- Kerry R0 contributionsWonderful experienceFrom the moms you arrive at the Drysdale platform the experience could not be faulted. Friendly helpful staff guided us to the complimentary sparkling and nibbles. The degustation meal was well balanced in many ways, flavours were fresh and complimentary. The starters were spot on as with the meat dishes, the delicate piece of porterhouse melted in my mouth. Good selection of local wines. It is very relaxing watching the rural scenery as you sip on your wine. This makes for a lovely SundayWritten 26 January 2024
