    Worth the trip.
Went to the Sanctuary with my daughter and grandsons. Haven't been for years as living in the valley it was done to death with visitors. Was pleasantly surprised. Great for kids but also good to have a wander any age. The dinosaur exhibition is especially good for kids. The bird of prey show is fabulous. I probably wouldn't go back for a while but I found it most interesting.

    Worth the trip.
Nice selection of animals with easy to follow map and signs for directions. Feeding the kangaroos was a highlight of the trip with the platypus section a close second. We managed to get a super video of a platypus swimming underwater. The koala experience was very disappointing. We had no interaction with them as they were all sleeping. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall we had a very enjoyable day.

A fun getaway outside of Melbourne
We visited the animal sanctuary as part of our day excursion to the Yarra Valley. The sanctuary is a good size and splits into 3 main areas which you can explore. There is plentiful to see and all the animals are native to Australia. We particularly liked the animal hospital where you can watch the vets perform procedures on their rescue animals. One thing to keep in mind is that there is not much cover between the trails, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting on a rainy day. There is also not too many food options so maybe consider bringing your own meal and snacks particularly if you’re in a big group as the food is a bit pricey.

An enjoyable experience apart from being sworn at
I went there with Lily this morning and we enjoyed ourselves but when we wanted to feed the kangaroo the lady said you can't feed it so get lost then we walked away feeling extremely uncomfortable after she spoke rudely to us.

    Fantastic. Must See
So worthwhile. Fantastic to see all the Australian animals. The environment and enclosures were beautiful and natural. Go to the (free) Keeper Talks they were interesting and often did things eg feeding so you saw the animal. The entry starts at $46 for an adult. This is a must see!

    One day trip
It is another primitive and friendly safari in the protective areas. The overall surroundings and environment are maintained naturally by lots of experienced volunteers. I can tell the devoted contribution they make here. The banners and instructions are really easy to be read and understood. You can explore different kinds of zones by walking or jogging. It is a new and fresh experience for me and family since you can really see those wild creatures in a very short distance.  Kids and I are impressed with the kangaroo and koala since it is our first time to see them. They are really cute and easy going by their general movements. Visitors either take photos or shoot videos while visiting those attractive creatures. My kids get lots of fun and knowledge by visiting them. The climate in this area is cloudy and cool for me and family. It is really comfortable to dive in the evergreen fields here. The air is really fresh and the water is so clean and chilly. It refreshes your body and mind while walking around the safari. There are 2 cafes inside safari. One is close to the exit and the bigger one is close to the kangaroo zone. Simple meals are available but it is crowded during lunch time always. Be patient with queue up and make sure animals won’t bother you while dining. It is a good place for kids and family to visit and the duration is around half day. Just come and visit here. Have fun.

    Not a great experience
I like Healesville Sanctuary but can see it declining as I’m a regular visitor. Signage is not very good for international guests. No signage to say if cafes open or close had to wander around looking for one that was open. Unfortunately the one at entrance open and only outside seating. I got attacked by an ibis when putting a mouthful of food into my mouth it flew up to my mouth and took out the food as it was going in. Gave me a real shock. I went straightaway to the ticket office and reported it, she wasn’t very concerned saying it happens all the time. She’d mention to management but didn’t take my details. I was with a baby so I’m just glad it got me instead of him. The ibis are on the tables with bird poop everywhere. No signage up about the birds with a warning anywhere.

    Excellent place to see animals!
I was left with the impression that the welfare of the animals and the living conditions of the park have been invested in. It is a good thing. There is a lot to see in the park and there are especially a lot of koalas. Allow enough time for this experience.

    VIP ticket not worth it
The VIP experience was not different from the regular experience. Koalas were cool to see, but not particularly happy. Whole experience was ok.

    Great family day out
We went with a family group from ages 12 to 74. We were able to pre-book a free wheelchair for a family member who had a recent leg operation. We saw a wonderful variety of Australian animals. Some animals like the koalas are set up to be easy to see. Some appeared when we watched long enough, especially in the nocturnal house. I couldn't spot the lyrebird, although I enjoyed a lot of the birds in the multiple giant aviaries that we went through. The younger members of the family were able to spot the platypus and also went to the "Spirits of the Sky" wild bird display. I didn't really plan in advance for the displays and zoo keeper talks, but the ones we passed were interesting, but a bit crowded with the school groups. We spent about 5 hours seeing lots of animals and had a great family day out.

    Healesville wildlife sanctuary
An amazing visit. Due to not seeing Australian wildlife in the wild on my trip, it was a must on my last day in Melbourne. Actually being able to see the nocturnal rodents was a orivildege, along with the Dingo, Wombat, Tasmanian Devil and of course the ‘roos and Koalas. Definitely a must do visit. Only problem is getting there you must either do an organised your or hire a car. Expensive with Uber/taxi.

Saving the animals one at a time - and you can help
Healesville Sanctuary is free roaming sanctuary, the critters are not on a schedule and can come and go within their massive enclosures as they please. Even the Bird show does not guarantee which birds you will see, because if the birds don't want to play, they can sit the show out. This applies to all the critters in the park, and while it might be disappointing not to see your favourite Tassie Devil, or Cockatoo, it is much better for all park residents, and it means you can go back again to see them... The park is pretty big, and you can do the big loop around the entire place if you want. We did some in the morning, had some lunch, then some in the arvo. We followed the schedule on the map. Sometimes it means zigzagging around the park, but they have a bunch of really good short cuts that means you are not walking a million miles. What topped off the day was the Dingo Experience. Basically we got to go in the enclosure with a lovely lady dingo. As with everything here, if she doesn't want to come out and play, she is not forced to. Luckily for us she did want to meet us and it was an amazing experience. We must have been in there with her for 30 minutes or more, and she is smart tool. One of the rocks in there is just for her to sit on and when she does no one is allowed to bother her. She knows that, and when she has had enough of us gushing over her, she jumps up onto it and lays down for a rest... The whole experience was totally worth it and highly recommended...

A must visit stop at Healesville, Victoria
This animal sanctuary was a great surprise in its standards, contented animals and welcoming and helpful staff who clearly love their work. The Birds of Prey exhibition was fantastic (and no extra cost) so make the time to see this. The staff changing the koala food engaged with visitors in a friendly and relaxed way, telling us what was going on, how the koalas live, eat and sleep - a great experience. I have been to a lot of zoos / sanctuaries - I was surprised how great this one was - visit if you can

    Interesting day out for everyone
This Zoo has loads of Australian native animals in their natural environment. Kangaroos abound, it's a thrill jumping around. The emus are inquisitive. The emus are the world's second largest flightless birds. They look fierce, but their bites are harmless. The wombats are interesting; visitors will find that the platypuses, which are unique to Australia, are fascinating. It's easy to spend a day at the Healesville Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is in the Yarra Valley, around an hour from Melbourne.

    Don’t do the VIP tour
We had the VIP tour and it was a big waste of money. There was no “close encounter” at all except the feeding of the echina. The only “value adding” was the stories about the animals.

Another reviewer said to choose your time of day and I agree. We went as they first opened and the animals were out 'n about and active, including the Koalas which were a lot of fun to watch. The kangaroos were hopping around and pretty much all of the animals we saw were active before the heat set in. The only ones that were not were the Tasmanian Devils...they were there, and I finally got to see them, but they were all asleep by the time we got to them, but it was still fun to see them.
The bird show was great, but it did get hot under the sun. The birds were beautiful and you could see them really well.
The platypus encounter was fun too. They are really cute and love to swim around.
You can get really close to the animals here and it is worth it to see them in this habitat. I did the koala experience (with picture) at another facility in Cairns, so I did not opt for it here, but I was told that you can do the same here although I did not look into it. If you want up-close encounters such as photo-ops and feedings, then check before and book in advance.

I went to visit twice in a month and my friends had yearly memberships. Saw my first Lyrebird dancing to attract a mate an feathers fully unfurled. Just spectacular.
I want to go back again many times to see the different exhibits.

We visited on a Thursday.

By 1030 the carpark was full.

It was a poor experience, with few animals visible.

The adult fee of A$42 is not worth it.

It was amusing that a keeper was giving about a dozen visitors a talk about koalas, but in the particular enclosure, there were no koalas.

Give it a miss.

We thoroughly enjoyed watching the two platypuses with their acrobatic swimming! I was worried we wouldn’t see any, but the exhibit is well made for viewing. We were also lucky enough to see a lively argument between Tasmanian devils over food. In the koala section, I watched one koala that was active for about 20 minutes, climbing up and down his trees and around the floor of his enclosure. We felt extremely lucky since they rarely move from where they are perched. We were also captivated watching the birds during the aviary keeper talk. They do a wonderful job educating while displaying the thrilling abilities of different birds. I think the mild weather during our visit played a big part in the liveliness of the animals. I would recommend that the park place more trash cans around, especially near the entrance.

This zoo is for Australian native animal lovers. The grounds are extremely well kept,
flat & well signposted. It is well suited for the elderly, kids & disabled visitors.
Large enclosures for all animals & all appear healthy & well looked after.
Free car parking is included in the entrance fee. There are a few cafes inside
the zoo from which to choose. Also lots of zoo keeper talks & 1 bird show.
You can book an encounter & pay extra for a close up experience with your favourite animal.

Visiting a zoo or sanctuary with kids is always fun and so was this trip to Healesville. Kids had a fun day out with the opportunity to see lots of animals, birds, reptiles etc and enjoyed a lot. It was also fund to be able to get close to some of the animals including Kangaroos (as we bought the ticket for meet and greet).

Unfortunately there were no talks and many areas were closed off to the public. I wasn't too upset about that as my aim was to take my partner to see the birds in flight show which I knew was open at 1 and 3pm. We went for a coffee at 2:45 to take to the show but the lady said she had just cleaned the machine :/ No coffee for us. We could have gone to another cafe but didn't want to miss the show. Excitedly arrived at the flight show at 2:50 only to be turned away as they said they were at capacity. I spoke to reception about my dismay but was given 2 coffee vouchers and told there was nothing they could do. So utterly dissapointed. Felt like we deserved a refund. If you want to see a handful of kangaroos and birds, 3 koalas, a couple of tassie devils and one wombat, knock yourself out.

This is an absolutely fantastic wildlife park where you can get up nice and close to Australia's popular animals. Special presentations throughout the day lets you get up even closer and access to experts who know their stuff - they will often even hang around and chat after the presentation if you want to learn more. Such a variety of Aussie animals and critters and a joy for every age. We loved it so much, we have even joined up as Zoo Members which we would encourage all to consider - great for the whole family.

Wonderful experience and the staff was so wonderful.
My partner was hesitant about visiting as he thought it may be like any other sanctuary we’ve been to. We are a couple in our late 20s without children but we enjoyed every minute of it.
We got to see the lyre bird put on a fantastic performance and it’s something I will never forget.
The staff were all so lovely. Full of information and would go out of their way to say hi to us whenever we crossed paths.

I’d like to make a special mention of Karen in the bird aviary who was full of information, engaging and took the time to talk to my partner about the birds. She was so lovely and made our experience even more memorable.

This is a large park with friendly staff about 1.5 hours from the cruise port. Our group had about 2.5 hours and I could have easily spent the entire day. As it was – I needed to walk very quickly to see most of the animals. You could not hold koalas, but they had wildlife encounters you could sign up for (extra money) to get up close. There was an awesome bird show in an outdoor amphitheater – they were awesome and well-trained. There are tons of koalas in their own area that are put in trees, but you can get good views of them. Some really good bird enclosures (just remember to open one door and close it before you open the next door). There is plenty of shade under trees in most places. My most exciting thing is I finally saw a platypus (their area is inside and very dark – so you have to look carefully). There are supposed to be several cafes to eat, but one by the reptile house was closed – but no signs. I ate at another café - a bit pricey, but I got a lot of very tasty (but very salty) sweet potato fries that came to about USD 4.25. I figure it goes to the upkeep and the animals. My only regret is that I just wish I had all day here.
