      Fantastic
One of the best tours I've been on. Incredible value. Access to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and state park. So professional, friendly, knowledgeable and good natured. There's no way going by car and doing this yourself would be anywhere near as good. It's a no brainer. Book this.

Nice to not have to drive
This was a very pleasant experience, our driver David was great! A good way to see many sights without having to drive and find things on our own.

A Day at Mt Rushmore, area overview.
This bus tour had a great mix including some meals touring and entertainment. It began with pancake sausage breakfast at an antique old style staged village of western life way back . Details include Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse areas as well as the wilderness/ forest region. The bus tour driver Pastor Bill added much to our day together. Many fun filled historic facts/fictional embellishments were provided along with quality and professional driving. A sufficient amount of time at key stops was allowed and the driver assisted in offering many photo ops. Country western style dinner did not include any vegetarian option but the other fixens were adequate. The band played for the entertainment to end the day. The tour gives a very good overview for out of towners making for a fun filled day.

      Good day trip
Excellent way to see a lot in one day and let someone else drive so you can enjoy the scenery. Difficult roads to navigate and know where to go. We would have enjoyed an hour at Sylvan Lake instead of some of the miscellaneous shorter stops we made. The tour guide does talk non stop about himself, history and trivia so if that’s not your thing I wouldn’t advise this tour. Overall it was a great way to enjoy the area.

So much more than just another bus tour!!!
Bill Martin kept us entertained with education as well as great humor!!! He had me in tears at one point! It was so much more than just a bus tour!!! After lunch he even offered a quiet time with soothing music so the tourists could nap or just relax. Highly recommended!!!

      Great Tour, BEST TOUR GUIDE
Our 8 hr extraviganza tour of South Dakota was made perfect by our guide Ken Updyke. Not only was he an encyclopedia of knowledge of SD but his joking made the time fly by.

Great tour. Tour guide needs to stop the politics.
Went with Bill Martin as our guide. For 8 hours it was a great bus, well timed, great tour…except for the following. 1. Bill said the Civil War was not about slavery. 2. He said south would have given up slavery by themselves in a decade or so. 3. snide comment about Obama and the federal deficit. 4. I was witness to the head waitress at lunch saying he was not allowed buffet items if he ordered a meal. (He took a dessert from the buffet) His response was he’s been doing it for 17 years. I did not see the resolution. That last was not my business—it’s between him and the restaurant but it made his testimony for Jesus Christ at the very end ring false. I do not want political commentary with my tour. They were quick comments over 8 hrs. Otherwise all was generally great. But it soured an otherwise amazing event.

Very good tour of the Black Hills. Covered the sites we wanted to visit. The driver/guide, Billy, was very informative and professional. Excellent way to cover the area and leave the driving to a real pro.

      Exceptional
This was a great all day trip. Our driver/guide Dan was knowledgeable, amiable, and had a great sense of humor. He did everything to make us comfortable and have a good time. We had plenty of time at the venues. We never felt rushed or that we missed anything. In fact, to allow us more time at one of the locations, he ran the video they would show at the venue so we would have more time to look around. Dan gave us quite a bit of local stories and suggestions for restaurants, and other sights to see as her is local to the area. We could not have had a better day

      Great tour, lunch snafu
The bus tour in itself was great. The driver Billy was extremely knowledgeable and witty. We saw Mt Rushmore, traveled down the Iron Mountain highway, saw unique bridges, very tight tunnels, bison, pronghorn and a mountain goat. We visited the extremely awesome Catheral spires rock formation and Sylvan Lake. Last we visited the Crazy Horse memorial which is under contruction. The Black Hills are truly beautiful and worth the visit. We only had one snag and that was our lunch which was at a very crowded lodge and very expensive (42.99 per person+ tax). There were no other choices. The gift shop did not even have water or soft drinks and snacks for sale. Some of our group went without lunch. It was Mother’s Day and we were supposed to have reservations which we did not. The Lodge did finally allow us to eat there. We felt that the tour company should have advised ahead of time the plans for lunch. Also, they say to be there between 7:30-8 AM but the bus does not leave until 9. They do have a rescued movie set fromDances with Wolves. The owner gave us a talk before the tour of how he moved the buildings on the current site after rescuing them from being torn down. There is a lot of paraphernalia to look at before the tour as well as a cowboy breakfast to be purchased.

The tour left nothig to be wanting or seeing, the tour guide and starting location was a total surpise of the history.
We travel a lot and have done countless tours of all sorts and this tour was by far the best and most informative and entertaining. It was well worth the cost and we are already planning another trip for 2024 and all the very same and more sights. It was wonderful is the best we both can say about it all and our driver was great

      Tour the Black Hills
Highly recommend the Ft Hays bus tour and dinner program. The trip is very informative and fun with the drivers. The show is top notch and the dinner a good old fashioned cowboy dinner. The meat was amazing.

We took the all day tour which included 2 meals and a bus ride to all of the important sites in the area and a Branson-like show. Our bus drive was excellent. He knew all kinds of information on the area and attractions and made the day very enjoyable. The meals were good and the evening show was entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone but especially if you don't have a lot of time in the area and want to enjoy the sites by having someone else do the driving. You get a lot for your money!

We had visited here before and only had the breakfast. We didn't know about the tour at the time and said if we ever came back, we would do it. From the cowboy breakfast to the very entertaining music show, this was a great experience. The tour bus takes you to all the places you want to see without the hassle of driving yourself. Our driver, Bill Martin, was an excellent driver and a very good tour guide. The whole operation was run like a well-oiled machine and was truly worth the cost. I highly recommend it.

This tour was amazing. Iron Mountain Road and Needles Hwy was some very skillful driving by Gary. He made the whole trip very enjoyable even with some of the bad jokes, you still laughed. The scenery was breathtaking. I have to give a shout out to the Owner of Fort Hays, when I was leaving after dinner I discovered my battery in my truck was dead. I went inside and saw a gentleman sitting at a table and asked if he knew of anyone who could maybe give me a jump, he immediately said he would do it. Fortunately, that's all it was and he told me where a Walmart was in order to purchase a new one in Rapid City. I had 3 Angels help me that night and he was the first, the other 2 were employee's of Walmart that changed the battery for me even though they were closing. God was looking out for me and blessed me to be at this place at that time. Highly recommend you do the full day starting with breakfast and ending with the Show after dinner. You won't be disappointed.

The bus tour and options of breakfast & dinner at Fort Hays isn't for everyone. If Mount Rushmore is on your bucket list and you only have 1 day - this isn't for you - you are only there for 1 hour. The bus is an older model ( the guide said most newer ones are too big to get through Needle Highways) don't expect comfort . We were a group of 6 (2 seniors, 2 adults, 2 boys 11 & 7). My daughter's family added the breakfast and dinner (plus show) at Fort Hays option. We just arrived in time to do the bus tour with them. My daughter said the food was very good at both meals. If you add those meals it is a looong day - the 7 year old was absolutely fried by the end of the bus tour. The guide, Gary, was very engaging and knowledgeable. I was surprised that he shook hands with everyone as we boarded and again at the end when we returned to Fort Hays (pack hand sanitizer). The lunch break at State Game Lodge was a buffet, which I had never thought I would experience again. The tour's website says you can order from a menu, but I don't remember if that was offered as we streamed in to pay at the front and be seated. The food was good. The Crazy Horse was fairly adequate in time, but the way you enter, you never see the part that has actually been completed. Just my opinion, but it seems like Korczak Ziolkowki's family has done pretty well, for a still uncompleted memorial. After touring the Crazy Horse Tourist Center, it is clear that someone is making money hand over fist. The bus tour's drive through Needles Highway is a high point. How often do you see biker's doing the sign of the cross, while other biker's give you a thumb's up, while your tour bus enters a tunnel? When we were going into the tightest tunnel, a crowd gathered a the opposite end, filming us! There are other stops that I haven't mentioned and throughout, Gary would pull over and give folks the option of getting off for a few minutes to take pictures. This tour has good/bad points and tourists just need to evaluate if it would suit their needs.

I was looking forward to being able to relax and see the sights! Instead, we were called at 7:00 AM, and told to be there by 7:30 because the bus was leaving early. Luckily/Unluckily we were staying nearby, and were able to make it on time. When we got there we asked why we weren't told the day before of the early departure. We were told that they texted and emailed us~ we got neither. So, needless to say, we had to take breakfast to go, which was not ideal, especially since there were no tray tables or drink holders on the bus.
We were then told, after the bus got going, why they were leaving early. Instead of going to the places we signed up to see, we were going to the buffalo roundup! Neither one of us cared to see the buffalo roundup, why weren't we asked before the bus took off and offered a refund if they were changing the itinerary? So, we went to see the buffalo, along with thousands of other people, who were prepared with blankets and chairs and hot coffee, etc. We sat in the bus to stay warm for several hours waiting until these buffalo were visible. Whoopee! Not a big deal, not a thundering herd! After that we were taken to the buffalo bbq tent, with again many people and had to pay $20 a plate for a pulled buffalo sandwich, chips, beans, and a drink. Not Happy about the price, the crowds, and the time spent seeing something we hadn't signed up to see. We were at this buffalo roundup from 8:30-1:30!
We were then taken to Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse, but only had an hour at each site, which was not nearly enough time.
The dinner was fine, the show was fine~ but at that point I was DONE with the whole place! I suggest that if you do sign up for this tour, ask before you get on the bus where they were taking you. Also ask where lunch is going to be. I would have packed a lunch instead of eating what they had available.

Our driver, Jerry was great and informative and the actual tour was good. However, we paid extra for this tour because it was suppose to include an all you can eat Cowboy breakfast and dinner and a show that night.

The breakfast was a joke - choice of a pancake, terrible biscut and gravy and a sausage. It wasn't hot. No eggs and it was not all you can eat - but it tasted so bad that wasn't an issue.

The dinner and show were cancelled and we were told we could come back the next day for that which we had thought we would do until we saw that you had to sit at what is essentially a picnic table and if breakfast was any indication of the meal it wasn't worth it. I think we should get refunded for the lack of dinner and show the same day and the lousy breakfast. Don't waste your money - choose a tour only.

Thanks for the review. I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed your tour. Operating during Covid19 had many challenges - chief among them was food suppliers and ever changing availability to our regular menu items. I do hope you enjoyed your time in the Hills and come back again some time!

Bus was packed! Kept getting moved around and bus driver really didn’t care that my seat kept getting taken. The tour is literally your whole day gone! Bus left at 9 am returning at 5:45 dinner doesn’t start till 6:15 music show about 7:15 last bout an hour so it’s totally not over till 8:30 pm. If I come back I would just visit things on my own. So I can do more in a day

The Black Hills is a very beautiful place and if you are in the area, heading to Mt Rushmore is a must see. However, this group tour in a very large and OLD bus was not one of our best tours. The tour company knew what they were doing but this was average at best when considering the entire experience. I would recommend just renting a car if you feel adventurous, instead of riding along with this tour.

Don't get me wrong. You can't go "wrong" with this tour company but perhaps there are better ways to head into the Black Hills.

Thanks for the feedback. We do have a few older buses as part of the fleet. We do use them so that way we can showcase the the Needles Hwy and the Needles Eye tunnel. With over 50 years of experience in the Hills, everyone that rides our tour always loves to ride the bus through the smallest tunnel in all of the Black Hills. Safe Travels!

I can't imagine a better deal than the 9-hour bus tour! We didn't have to drive, they fed us breakfast (pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage), got to see Mt. Rushmore (amazing), Custer State Park, Sylvan Lake (though I agree with others who have said this stop should be longer), and the Crazy Horse Memorial (amazing), take routes and roads that would be stressful to drive, fed us dinner (chicken or brisket, baked beans, baked potato, biscuit, and spice cake), then topped it all off with a really fun and talented band. I was skeptical when the band came out. It was a long day, I was tired, I was expecting more of a show than a concert, but they exceeded my expectations!! The meals were so-so, admittedly, especially the dinner, but honestly you can't beat it for the money! My only disappointment was the lunch at Custer State Park. The servers discouraged ordering off the menu because of time constraints, so the only option was the buffet, which, while good, was more than most of us wanted and more expensive than we would have wished. Just walking around the grounds was fun, too. Our driver, Pastor Bill, was entertaining and knowledgeable, and a REALLY GREAT driver. Highly recommend this if you're out in the area and want to take in the sights! (FYI, we were a group of 10 with ages from 4 to 59 and including teens - we all loved it)

This tour was awesome! Very scenic, and our tour guide was very informative and entertaining. The stops were just the right amount of time needed to take pictures, visit the museums, etc. The tour included many of the sights we had planned to see on our own, but it was much better riding and relaxing in the bus so my husband and I could both just sit back and enjoy the views. The breakfast was great and the evening dinner show was excellent! It was a full day of activity and well worth the price.
