Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

    Birthday tour
My mom and I went for my 18th birthday and I had an awesome time! Our host was Lance and he told some amazing stories, answered all of our questions, and was truly an exceptional tour guide! This tour was the cherry on top of an amazing stay in the wonderful city of Charleston!

    Great history lesson
The best thing about this tour was the guide, Ethan, he was really great and you could tell he enjoys what he does. There was really nothing scary about it at all, however, the sites were amazing and so were history lessons

    NON REFUNDABLE
My fault. Did not check that this tour is non refundable. Life happened at the last minute and could not go. Lost the cash I paid for it ($30.00).

    Meh
The best thing about this tour was wandering around at night, looking at cool architecture, hanging with friends. You don't get to go in a graveyard or building to see anything scary. None of the stories were scary. It was overly rehearsed. I imagine my middle school age kids would like it. I didn't like stopping and sitting to listen to long stories. I would have rather continued walking and see more.

Didn't see the point of the mature audience label thankfully
Our guide was Laura. If you read other reviews, she is not their popular guide. We weren't really impressed either. She is somewhat brassy and really didn't make the tour fun or spooky for that matter. We booked this particular tour because it fit our schedule. I was leary of the over 21 warning. Thankfully, I found little on this tour except a few swear words that merited the over 21 label. We took other family friendly ghost tours on this visit that had more "mature" themes. Disappointing for a tour that was taken on Halloween night.

The Death and Depravity Tour With Lance
Lance was our tour guide for The Death and Depravity Tour. Lance was definitely knowledgeable, delivered the stories well, connected with each group in the party, welcomed questions and kept everyone engaged. Super cool way to learn some of the history of Charleston.

    Haunted pub tour
It was fun but would have liked more ghost stories. Guide was entertaining. Liked the bars that were chosen. Fun walking around at night.

    Larger group than advertised
My main issue with this tour is that it’s advertised as 9 people max per group. There were 22 people in ours. I also feel there was quite a lot of filler time and not as much time devoted to actual stories.

    Extremely Educational and Fun!!
Lance was an amazing tour guide. His knowledge of the haunted and taboo history of Charleston is 2nd to none. We was hilarious and there was no question asked that he did not have extensive knowledge about. Highly recommend. Not for kids or the overly sensitive!

    Cut short. Unorganized
Our tour was cut short because another tour guide fell ill and our guide helped but that is not the reason for the poor review. The tour was not scary. Very unorganized in beginning. They apparently overbooked the tour and too many people were in each group. Messaged the operator already about a refund. I think the tour should be renamed or the description updated

    Death and Depravity Tour
This tour was super fun! The hour & a half flew by with Lance as our tour guide! Incredibly knowledgeable with some hilarious tidbits! Not only was the tour spooky, Lance told us so much of Charlestons rich history which was so fun to hear with it being our first time in the city! I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone!

Great tour to make your skin crawl! Lance is the man!
Lance was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable about the area and history so we learned something while also hearing about a few ghosts that haunt the churches, squares, and graveyards. He has a quick sense of self-deprecating humor that had us in tears before the tour even started. I highly recommend this for families with near adult children. It’s not the history you’ll get from any textbook. 10/10, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I’m wondering if we came on the tour next year, could we get some new stories?

Lance was the best tour guide. He took our 14 year old baseball team and families on a guided tour and kept us captivated the entire time. He was funny and a lot of fun to be around. Highly recommend!

A ghost tour is an excellent way to end a day, learning some history and hearing some great stories about historical figures, tragic deaths, pirates and more. Dawson was our guide and he was great. First, it was a perfect night with a heavy fog rolling in from the water. Dawson had a great sense of humor, mixed in with well told ghost stories, all while taking in the beautiful sites of the historic city of Charleston. I have 2 older teens, and this was a perfect activity we all could enjoy. Highly recommended.

Got rained out and tour kept going through lightning and flooded streets. Kudos to the tour guide. But we left. Wish they had called it and refunded our money or given a raincheck. Feel bad that the guide still has to push on through lightning and floods!

Book Bulldog Tours instead. We signed up and paid for a tour but Ghost City Tours cancelled the tour without notifying us. We came to Charleston to do a ghost tour and ended up wasting time waiting around for no one to show up. When we called customer service, the person we spoke to was rude, dismissive, and said she forgot to tell us the tour was cancelled because she was busy. She also told us we were the only ones signed up for the tour, so it doesn’t sound like it would have been difficult to let us know it was cancelled. Absolutely terrible customer service.

My husband and I took this tour because we love Charleston and love the history of the revolutionary and Civil War. The description of the tour states, "The Ghosts of Liberty Tour is the only tour in town dedicated to the men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom and America. Charleston has played an integral part in many of the events in our Country's founding. You'll hear about those people, the events, and their ghosts on the Ghosts of Liberty Tour." However, that was not the case. The tour guide was not a storyteller, nor did they know Charleston's history/stories to tell them correctly. The people we were told about were of no fundamental importance or anyone we had ever heard about or related to the revolutionary war. The stories told were incorrect. This tour was a real disappointment and a waste of time and money.

We are sorry to hear that you didn’t have a 5-star experience with us. Would you mind giving us a brief explanation of what in particular about the stories you did not enjoy so that we can use this for improvement?

We did the 90 minute tour at 7pm yesterday evening. Our guide Brianna is SO knowledgeable and has a genuine enthusiasm for the city and the stories she told us. This was the first time we had done a tour like this with our teenagers and one 12 year old. Brianna's style of story telling is so engaging and she had the kids' full attention for the entire 90 minutes. That does not happen very often!!

We visited 6 different locations and at each place Brianna told us such detailed and entertaining stories about the history and ghosts who can be seen there. My favourite was the Wegman Building story and poor George!

The only tip I would offer to anyone considering this tour is bring mosquito repellent or wear trousers. The mosquitoes were biting!!

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough!

We booked the night tour and arrived at the fountain 15 minutes prior to the tour at 10pm. Weren't sure who we would be meeting, but after we lingered around a bit, a guy did ask if we were there for the tour and we said yet. He said make yourself at home as we are waiting on more people to show up. Me and my daughter proceeded to sit on the park bench immediately behind him and the girl he was standing with. A few more people showed up and were talking to him. Then another couple showed up and it looked like they were getting ready for the tour so me and my daughter walked over there and they were just heading up the street, so we began to follow and the other girl who was still standing there asked if we were there for the tour and we said yes, and she said did you check in and we said yes. She said you can't go with them because they already have 8 people, so we had to wait with her until more people arrived for the scheduled tour. My daughter had really wanted that guy as our tour guide as she read the reviews and his name kept coming up as being really good, so we were disappointed that we were the first ones to check in with him and then we weren't part of his group. Some parts of the tour lost our attention like the long story in the bloody alley where the tour guide talked about the dualing that took place there. It seemed like we were in that alley for a good 15 minutes listening to the stories and it was quite hot with not much air movement through there. The rest of the tour was ok, but nothing spectacular. It's always nice to learn a bit of history on these types of tours though. Tour ended up being just over 90 minutes long.

I’ve done several ghost tours in Charleston and wanted to take my daughter (8) on her first one. She called it “creepy fun!”

Michael was our guide and he told the stories really well and had us hanging on to every word!

The only downside (which is not the fault of the guide or company) is that there were sooo many ghost tours happening at the same time. It was a really busy Saturday night so sometimes we had to wait for an area to clear out.

We are so glad you and your daughter had some creepy fun on our Ghosts of Liberty Tour with Michael. The weekends usually get pretty busy with tours. We would love to have you join us again for another tour in the future!

From the moment we gathered, our guide set the perfect eerie atmosphere with captivating storytelling and local legends. The tour took us through Charleston’s most haunted locations, each with its chilling tale. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and had a fantastic sense of humor, keeping the energy high even while sharing spooky tales. I left feeling both spooked and fascinated by Charleston’s rich history.

Doing a ghost tour in Charleston on Halloween at 10:30pm with a full moon may not have been my best idea in the world.. but this tour was worth the spook and heebeejeebies. Very organized and our guide Breonna was new as she stated at the beginning but the information she had and the way she conveyed it made her seem like a pro. We could hear her clearly and understand, she answered questions with little to no hesitation and overall gave us a great experience. Such a fascinating tour and definitely worth it!
