- 189farahp00Educational trip for allI highly highly recommend going on the deluxe safari. This way you get to see the animals closer and the guide, Ouf! So knowledgeable and have so many interesting facts to share with you. Little kids and adults will enjoy it the same
- 242hardeepk00Most fun was play area for kidsThe views were amazing. We took so many photos. We enjoyed safari ride and good lunch area. It was good experience.
- T1912JTdanas00Amazing Place To Go To With Families! This Place Is INCREDIBLE. The animals are very well taken care of, The safari bus is amazing, and AMAZING group of australian, and asian but mainly african animals, hippos are so cute! If your going with a family then make sure you take a look at the brand new lion cubs, so CUTE. Keep in mind that im writing this in 2023 lion cubs may be lions if your tourists planning a trip, And Cat Show is GREAT!
- Steven C00Amazing adventure. This is a wonderful experience. The food was tasty and generous, and dietary needs advised in advance are catered for. The safari tents are comfortable and attractive. You are glamping, so expect a closer relationship with outside than a hotel might provide. The highlight is obviously the animal experience, day and night. Our rangers, including Mike who looked after us overnight and in the morning, were friendly, engaged, passionate and knowledgeable. We met the older rhinos up close, saw the cheetah at night resting just a metre from us, and had an early tour before opening time when rhinos, giraffes and zebra came right up to the truck to check us out! We also saw a lot of the behind scenes operations which was informative and fascinating. It is genuinely like doing a mini safari.
- FoodnTravelreviews00A nice few hoursA nice day out with the family. The zoo is looking a little tired now and could use some upkeep. Even the entrance and fake animals could use a refresh. I thought lunch options were pretty good for a zoo. There were pies and sausage rolls, sandwiches ( although I couldn't find any avo on my avocado and chicken sandwich) and wrap salads , burgers and chips plus cakes and muffins and ice-cream. A couple of cafes along the zoo walks too. Prices are extremely inflated as is expected. Gift shop was ok. Again, extremely overpriced. The safari was good. Bring a jacket as it can get cold. Overall a good few hours but would love to see the $$$ going into some enhancements. It has the potential to be great. Parking was a nightmare. Signage is lacking. Definitely needs a parking attendant or signs that show which lots are full and where spaces are available.
- Promisetobegood00Werribee Zoo Deluxe SafariDeluxe Safari for 2 adults and 2 children. Paid a bit more to get up close to some of the beautiful animals. Informative and entertaining guide knew how to keep us amused, relaxed and engaged the whole hour long safari. Little kids were fascinated with the giraffes, rhinos (!!), camels, zebras - all the animals roaming free and so healthy well cared for. A wonderful experience and we learnt alot about how open range zoos can support international conservation efforts.
- laurapK9541ID00Definitely worth itOne of the most amazing zoo experiences we’ve had. We were so well looked after by all of the staff, food was incredible, facilities were beautiful and clean, the animal experiences were unforgettable and the knowledge staff had on animals and the zoo was brilliant! Definitely worth the money and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys animals and zoos.
- pushprag00Wonderful Werribee Open sanctuaryIt was an a very memorable experience at the place. The gorrillas, the hippo, the girraffes and more. The bus safari was the highlight for our toddler with a variety of animals in the open in close quarters. The visit is a good number of hours of the day and an advantage to have some play area of toddlers. Lots of open space for visitors to relax and make it fun filled picnic in the zoo
- Bluehart1500Must add on the Deluxe Safari Adventure to make the visit worthwhileAdd on the deluxe adventure to make the visit worthwhile as you can get closer to the animals. The general admission is not really worth the time and travel if you are going from Melbourne CBD...
- Journey71930600Nice walkLady at the ticket counter was rather rude as we booked tickets through Viator, which is a third party. How was I to know!!! No information was given about the Zoo just told to take a map. Tour guide on the bus was fantastic and extremely bubbly. Not many active animals but was still a good day out.
- 142MichaelW00Slumber camping at Werribee ZooThis glamping experience ticked all of the boxes. The staff were warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The tent/cabin was clean and comfortable, with electric blankets, heater and comfortable beds.. The private adjoining toilet/shower was perfect.. The food was terrific and plentiful. We were really well looked after by Megan and Abbey. The behind the scene animal encounters were the highlight and very enjoyable. The only negative has nothing to do with the zoo. Unfortunately the close proximity to the nearby freeway means that the animals and guests are greeted with constant road noise.
- Klaus W00A great day outA great zoo with every thing you would expect. A safari tour is a must. We were lucky to have “Sunni” as our driver/guide. Her bubbly personality is a credit to the establishment. The place is well kept and as it is an open field zoo, where the animals roaming wild. These are looking all well kept and (happy)
- marksB8178IP00Overall a pleasant experience!Great experience for all ages. The safari exceeded expectations. Left it a bit late in the afternoon (arrived at 14:30) so didn’t see all the animals but we saw enough to be satisfied. We did get rushed out by staff at 5pm in the gift shop which wasn’t the greatest, especially with three children wanting gifts following their visit. We did manage to purchase but because they’d cashed up before 5pm we couldn’t pay by cash and had to pay by card. Maybe close the zoo 15 minutes earlier so people have time to browse for gifts or extend the gift shop opening hours for those last minute purchases. Overall, a pleasant experience!
- Gniyoh00Inactive animalsKids are disappointed. No animals in the encounters and if yes, not active and look sleepy. Not recommended. One positive note, staff are friendly and polite.
- Pioneer4178958133500The good, the bad and, this titleI am going to share one good thing and one bad thing. We’ll first start with the good: This zoo allows tourists who spend more money to tour a bigger part of the park. First, the tourist gets onto a tram and someone drives it around the area to see animals such as bison, rhinos and zebras. After you come back from your tram you’ll see why. My only complaint is that the Australian trail is bland with little animals compared to how much land there is.

Fabulous tour of the African animals. Up close and personal. Able to take wonderful photographs.
Very comfortable 20 seat vehicle, however this day we had the vehicle to ourselves with our guide Helen. Helen was very knowledgeable and most pleasant to spend the time with. We feel like we have been to Africa, without leaving home.

It was just myself, the guide, and another guest. I was surprised how close the vehicle gets to the animals. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The giraffes came right up to the vehicle. We saw baby zebras, rhinos, hippos, bison,Mongolian horses, ostriches, camels, and antelopes. You could even see the camel’s eyelashes. There are ponchos at the gift shop since the vehicle is open air on the sides. It was a warm day in October when I did the safari.

I love animals, so my family ordered a Deluxe your for six. And was it worth it! We saw many animals such as bison, Oryx and giraffes. We even went to the lion 🦁 talk and heard about the lions and how they are living.

We had a wonderful time staying overnight at the Zoo. The accommodation was great and the staff were really friendly. The animal close encounters that were included with the slumber safari were amazing. Being so close to the giraffe and hippos was something I’ll never forget.

My mother and I throughly enjoyed the off road safari tour. We learned a lot about the animals and their lifestyle and habitat. We got some great photos of hippos sitting in the mud. Great day out.

If you are looking for a zoo full of animal performances and lots of animals, this is not the place. But if you are looking for a nice park to walk and hangout with occasional view of well taken care of animals, this is definitely a match. The safari ride is like a mini Africa Safari. The rides, animals, oasis and landscape are very well planned. My personal favourite for the zoo is 'All About Cats.' They also have lots of nice children playground withinnthe zoo. The food choices however are limited and the vegan options are too natural for me.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Melbourne. The zoo itself is a beautiful concept, with incredible open plains for most of the animals and spacious enclosures for some of the others. The facilities for humans are also excellent! It is a bit of a trek out there with trains from the CBD not leaving very often and only one bus an hour for most of the day from the Werribee train station to the zoo (we took an uber instead), but it is well worth it. The off-road safari is also 100% worth the extra money, it was so special to get up close to the animals and we also learnt a lot from our excellent tour guide. An experience I will not forgot for a long time.

A group of 10 adults ( Seniors ) will be in Melbourne for 1 day on 23 February 2020. We are on a cruise and are interested in doing the Off - Road Safari. Could you please advise what transport arrangements we would need to arrange to take us from the Melbourne port to the Zoo and return the group to the port by 4pm. Also would you advise of the approx cost of transport and Zoo entry and Safari fees.
Thank you.
John.
