- P3555OAsuee0 contributionsA Must Do SleepoverUpon initially purchasing tickets for myself and two grandchildren, I thought the experience was expensive. AFTER the experience I thought it was incredible value for money….. We arrived promptly at 2.15 to a friendly welcome from Matt and were shown to our accommodation which was surprisingly spacious. Two single beds and a queen, lovely bed linen and blankets. The ensuite is outside , a few metres walk along the deck but very accessible and again, spacious. The view from our little palace was fabulous, with a little imagination we could have been in Africa. An hour after check-in , we boarded the Safari vehicle with Meaghan for a spellbinding tour through the savannah. A rare close encounter with giraffes , bison , rhinos , zebras , camels , and more , all the while listening to fascinating facts about the wildlife. Next , drinks and nibbles in the Common Room before a scrumptious African buffet ( the children receiving individual fun food boxes ) before we headed off on our guided night walk. Kids loved the excitement of discovering koalas , wallabies , lions and much more by torchlight , then returning to camp to toast marshmallows. In the morning we returned to the common room for a hearty cooked breakfast ( there was no shortage of food on offer , my coeliac granddaughter was catered for beautifully ) then we set off to watch the animals being fed. This was really special , with the keepers sharing so much knowledge and answering kids endless questions. Come 10am , the organised aspect of the stay ended but we were free to stay on in the zoo for as long as we wanted…… Couldn’t have asked for better guides than Meaghan and Matt , both extremely well suited to their roles and wonderfully patient with children. Could not recommend this stay highly enough. Five stars from meWritten 7 October 2024
- KathleenS1840 contributionsGet up close with animalsa bit hard to get to, but well worth it. Not a huge amount of animals, compared with the Melbourne Zoo, but I would totally recommend. The safari bus is AMAZING giving you the opportunity to see animals really close up. While there are few animals you do get to see them really close. Got to hear the keeper talks, which were really informative. Got to see hippos, cheetahs, lions and Gorillas close up, which was a real highlight. A great child friendly venue. Signage could be a little better, but there were lots of tracks we could investigate. Cant wait to return to see the new elephant enclosure.Written 4 June 2024
- Darkest_dreaming0 contributionsGreat zooGreat zoo. Loved the whole atmosphere. The animals looked well cared for, there was a free safari and plenty of places to stop and eat/drink and get some souvenirs! The prices are expensive imo, but no more then I expect to pay at an attraction like this. The meerkat cafe was a lovely place to eat, it was easy to order and the food/drink was lovely.Written 16 March 2024

- Small_BuG_1230 contributionsGreat and AmazingThis zoo quite big, and could use more than 4 hours to complete.. It is amazing that we could get very close to hippo, zebra, giraffe and many. My kids love it !Written 17 September 2023
- Steven C0 contributionsAmazing adventure. This is a wonderful experience. The food was tasty and generous, and dietary needs advised in advance are catered for. The safari tents are comfortable and attractive. You are glamping, so expect a closer relationship with outside than a hotel might provide. The highlight is obviously the animal experience, day and night. Our rangers, including Mike who looked after us overnight and in the morning, were friendly, engaged, passionate and knowledgeable. We met the older rhinos up close, saw the cheetah at night resting just a metre from us, and had an early tour before opening time when rhinos, giraffes and zebra came right up to the truck to check us out! We also saw a lot of the behind scenes operations which was informative and fascinating. It is genuinely like doing a mini safari.Written 12 August 2023
- suzannehN3293UR0 contributionsGreat experienceThe delux tour was totally worth the extra cost. If you just want to walk and see animals, the zoo is lacking. Very nice to walk though, beautifully laid out. Being able to get so close to animals on the tour was incredible. Our guide, Fitsu I think, was just lovely and very knowledgeable. Would definitely pay to do this again.Written 27 July 2023
- laurapK9541ID0 contributionsDefinitely worth itOne of the most amazing zoo experiences we’ve had. We were so well looked after by all of the staff, food was incredible, facilities were beautiful and clean, the animal experiences were unforgettable and the knowledge staff had on animals and the zoo was brilliant! Definitely worth the money and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys animals and zoos.Written 17 June 2023
- pushprag0 contributionsWonderful Werribee Open sanctuaryIt was an a very memorable experience at the place. The gorrillas, the hippo, the girraffes and more. The bus safari was the highlight for our toddler with a variety of animals in the open in close quarters. The visit is a good number of hours of the day and an advantage to have some play area of toddlers. Lots of open space for visitors to relax and make it fun filled picnic in the zooWritten 16 June 2023

- 142MichaelW0 contributionsSlumber camping at Werribee ZooThis glamping experience ticked all of the boxes. The staff were warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The tent/cabin was clean and comfortable, with electric blankets, heater and comfortable beds.. The private adjoining toilet/shower was perfect.. The food was terrific and plentiful. We were really well looked after by Megan and Abbey. The behind the scene animal encounters were the highlight and very enjoyable. The only negative has nothing to do with the zoo. Unfortunately the close proximity to the nearby freeway means that the animals and guests are greeted with constant road noise.Written 8 May 2023

- Pioneer417895813350 contributionsThe good, the bad and, this titleI am going to share one good thing and one bad thing. We’ll first start with the good: This zoo allows tourists who spend more money to tour a bigger part of the park. First, the tourist gets onto a tram and someone drives it around the area to see animals such as bison, rhinos and zebras. After you come back from your tram you’ll see why. My only complaint is that the Australian trail is bland with little animals compared to how much land there is.Written 7 April 2023
- T507TBbillb0 contributionsBlown Away By Werribee ZooWe arrived at the zoo quite before we could go to our accommodation so we did the public tour of the zoo. Later we met our guide for the experience and the other guests for that night. Our guide (Gordon) was amazing and he had very good assistance from Georgia and Christine and the kitchen staff. Our expectations of the experience were blown away because of the staff and the venue. We learnt far more about the animals and the zoo’s aims in preserving animal populations. All of our questions were answered thoughtfully. The accomodation was very comfortable and private for each coiple and there was plenty of opportunity to interact with other members of the groupWritten 17 February 2023

I think the evening slot is complete waste of money. You pay the same money as morning slot, and get 0 wildlife experience in return.
1. No safari bus - therefore cannot see zebras, giraffees etc.
2. And then most animlas are asleep/resting at this time, so you will see nothing but empty enclosures. We couldn't even see a monkey. Just saw 2 hippos in the whole zoo. 3. The cafes are also closed at this time, only 1 was open.
4. The only thing we enioyed was dino park - large statues of dinosaurs with move little bit to give realistic effect.
Either add safari bus to evening slot as well, or make evening slot cheaper.

Great experience for all ages. The safari exceeded expectations. Left it a bit late in the afternoon (arrived at 14:30) so didn’t see all the animals but we saw enough to be satisfied.
We did get rushed out by staff at 5pm in the gift shop which wasn’t the greatest, especially with three children wanting gifts following their visit. We did manage to purchase but because they’d cashed up before 5pm we couldn’t pay by cash and had to pay by card.
Maybe close the zoo 15 minutes earlier so people have time to browse for gifts or extend the gift shop opening hours for those last minute purchases.
Overall, a pleasant experience!

The zoo is amazing in a way that they look after the animals and they have massive enclosures but for visitors it’s not that good, not much to see which is a little disappointing. We didn’t see a lot of animals. Although the safari bus was fun.

Enjoyed the safari bus ..but found that most animals around the park were not so easy to spot..we did the 9am to 4pm opening fist stop was the Cafe for breakfast ..due to covid we were to adhere to the social distancing rule but the tables were quite close together and people were standing over us while we had breakfast to take pictures of the meerkats..the food was cold and terrible as was the coffee they got our order wrong and we waited over 30 mins for them to get the correct order ..we just ended up leaving as the food area was becoming crowded...the safari bus was great but while we were waiting for the bus we were constantly told to line up in a group to wait for the bus no 1.5 mtr rule there either ...the buses were not wiped down between tours (seats and hand rails) and the seating was not spaced out ..no sanitizer on the buses offered either ..although there were hand sanitising stations throughout the park .

Having been to Melbourne zoo many times, and Healesville likewise, but not having seen Werribee for many years we thought we would go.
Booking online makes it easy and means no queues.
Luckily the crowd numbers were low, and going early helps too.
If it's animals you want to see as in numbers, the Melbourne zoo is the place to go. There aren't the numbers of animals at Werribee.
The tour on the bus is good, and again because of low numbers you could swap sides on the bus as the animals are always on the other side, lol.
We found the signs in the zoo poor I know why they have been done in the style used, but they can be confusing and there is a need for more clearer signage. Likewise the map you can get could also be better.
Weather was good, the staff helpful, amenities ok, but its just lacking something. Melbourne zoo is much better.

Looked forward to a family day at the zoo. Well to our surprise we had to walk nearly a kilometre through the car park, thank god we purchased our tickets online, the line to purchase ticket was so backed up. We entered the Zoo was looking at going onto the Safari ride, we arrived just after opening, we were told it could take up to two hours. So gave that idea up, so upon trying to get through the crowd, we managed to see, a couple of African dags, a couple of lions, three hippos, two monkeys and a couple of emus. The so called Australian area was crap, nothing to see but an empty shearing shed. The reptile display was a bunch of photos of reptiles. Lunch after standing around for a while we were able to get a table, the only good thing of the day, we did not get ripped off for the food. I did talk to one person who was serving, working the butt off, they were not happy with the amount of people in the park. After lunch checked out the safari line, now with a wait of three hours. Decided to go for a short walk, sorry too many people around, so decided to give up the day, go home have a couple of beers. If you are thinking of going to the Zoo during holiday forget about it. To the people who run this shambles, think about the amount of people you let into the Zoo on any given day. Think of the people who are visiting and want to enjoy a day. This will be the first and last visit.

I loved Weribee open range zoo’s safari as it got you up close with the animals. I visited in October and the day was so warm you could wear shorts or a dress. I enjoyed seeing the African and Australian animals. I even had a curry with a glass of sparkling wine. The native plants were amazing to behold. The emus were walking around freely even.

As with all open range zoos the number of animals you will see is limited compared to a normal zoo however you get to see the animals in larger enclosures. Entry fee is average compared to other zoos I have visited but the ticket included a tour on the safari bus which in most other zoos would be an extra cost. The bus tour was very good however the noise of the engine in the first vehicle drowned out the talk by the driver which was a pity as from what we did hear would have been interesting. We spent about 3 hours at the zoo. We also brought afternoon tea at the cafe which was nice but a bit pricey.

My wife and I visited this Zoo recently, during a holiday where we stayed at a holiday apartment in Point Cook.
This was our second visit. During our previous visit last year, we had paid extra for the Deluxe Safari Tour. This time around, we decided to try the normal Safari Tour which is included in the General Admission Ticket.
We were lucky to see the three lion cubs at feeding time and watched them eat a chunk of raw meat. We were also lucky to see the three Gorillas at feeding time and watched them eat celery.
We will return next year to see the new and very large Elephant Closure that is currently under construction.

Before coming to this park as a tourist, we were hesitating between the latter and the Melbourne Zoo and we decided to go to Weribee because we found it original to offer visitors the African version of safari.
We were a little disappointed, the layout of the park itself is incredible but where have the animals gone? When there were there were very few, maybe one of each but most of the enclosures we passed through, there were no animals, it was like the day after an animal escape film .
We tried the safari, so there too we queued (we were first in the queue) and then the bus arrives, they let the last ones in the queue enter first (but what?!? they work in reverse, it's not possible), so we found ourselves not having a place and waiting for the next bus when the one we were supposed to take wasn't even full.
It was this activity that made us choose this park but ultimately we were disappointed, the safari itself is a good idea, it makes for a good walk among the wildlife but still the same where are the animals? it was empty (there was a giraffe there, a rhino on the other and more empty enclosures...)
Finally, really disappointed! It's a shame because the layout of the park is there and they have everything to do well.
The staff, however, are very welcoming and friendly!
Well next time, we'll go try the Melbourne Zoo!
