- deemacvee0 contributionsThe red boat is local family owned and operated. We loved every minute of this cruise. The boat, the staff/ crew, the information provided, the food, the itinerary - perfect. We were blessed with a lovely sunny day. They boat was less than half full and there were plenty of options, inside and outside to view the cruise. We paid for the upper deck but passengers were free to roam wherever, including the bridge where the Captain was only too happy to have a chat.Written 9 November 2024
- Pioneer389840 contributionsSpectacularSpectacular. Far exceeded our expectations. The staff were so attentive, the seating was comfortable, the food amazing and the sights WOW. Definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to relax and be overwhelmed with a great experience.Written 1 November 2024
- 525billr0 contributionsHeritage Boat tour, StrahanAn awesome way to spend six or seven hours learning about the Gordon River, Marquette Bay, and western Tasmania. Very quiet and comfortable boat. A nice mix of narrative, video clips, and yarns to provide background, history, and colour. Pleasant and tasty lunch included. Tour is a good nix of travel in the boat, walks on land, and informative talks.Written 1 November 2024
- Aussiehrh0 contributionsI’d give ten stars if I could.Absolutely wonderful day with world heritage cruises through hells gate, to Sarah island (of for the term of his natural life fame) and onto the awe inspiring Gordon river. Learnt so much about the history and the beautiful timber. Staff were absolutely brilliant - every single one - so helpful, funny and couldn’t do enough for us. The skipper’s commentary was also a real highlight, the lunch was delicious. So glad I chose the red boat, owned and operated for generations by the local Grining family, who we all need to thank for helping to the get rid of dreadful Franklin/gordon dam project in the 70’s. Absolutely fabulous day! Highly recommended.Written 30 October 2024
- 57stevef0 contributionsSuper informative, spectacular sceneryThis had everything. Stunning scenery, convict heritage with an extremely well informed and interesting guide, beautiful boat, friendly crew. The list goes on, and on! Highly recommended 👌 👍Written 26 October 2024
- fionab9590 contributionsAmazing Cruise through stunning areasWhat an amazing trip! From the moment we stepped onboard the crew were fabulous, very friendly and the Captain was great. Everyone of them was very knowledgeable and knew the area well. The trip itself was stunning! We were constantly in awe of the beautiful areas we stopped at and saw. The guided walk on Sara Island was very informative and interesting. Just cruising up the Gordon River was something I will never forget. Highly recommend this cruise to anyone.Written 25 October 2024
- TraceyS3210 contributionsMagnificent Day on The Gordon RiverA wonderful way to see the beautiful Gordon River. The commentary along the way is very informative. It was such a bonus being able to get to see Hells Gates, as we were blessed with calm seas and no wind. The stop off at Sarah Island was terrific so much history and our guide was fantastic. The Heritage landing stop was quite pleasant and informative. We chose the upper deck which was really nice, plenty of room and the friendly staff are very accommodating. We highly recommend World Heritage Cruses when visiting Strahan. Worth every penny.Written 11 October 2024
- Curious5884330 contributionsAn special morning on the waterTravelling the calm and peaceful Gordon River surrounded by pristine forest was a special treat, knowing how close we came to losing it all as a nation. Listening to the on board guide and the Sarah Island guide was very interesting learning about the days when prisoners were taken to Sarah Island to serve their time.Written 9 October 2024
- 993ragavanv0 contributionsGolden time in the Gordon RiverIt was really nice experience and crew was really good and friendly. The buffet was tasty and the price of the canteen items are damn cheap compare to the caffe at the shore. Guides on the walking tour was good. In overall everyone enjoyed it.Written 5 October 2024
- 845grahaml0 contributionsA must do in StrahanThe boat provides a very comfortable and great way to see the harbour, islands and Gordon River. We were lucky with the weather and had a fantastic trip. The food on board is very good and fresh. It is worth noting you will need cash if you want more. Tours off the boat on Sarah Island and in the wilderness area of Gordon river were very informative. It really is a must do in Strahan.Written 2 October 2024
- 301gayr0 contributionsGreat tourGreat trip thank you. The team on the cruise were very friendly and helpful. Lunch was great and the tours were very informative. Worth doing.Written 1 October 2024
- 784stepheni0 contributionsWilderness wow in wonderful comfortWe booked the premium deck months in advance which paid off for our seat position. With the comfort of the seating, the fabulous food and beverages and the wonderful staff, this was one of tge best value experiences of any travel expeditions. Hanna's commentary mixed in with the pre recorded actors narrations and re enactments of famous pioneering people truly added to the adventure and was not intrusive. The Spirit of the Wild vessel, built in Tasmania, is a very stable and and comfortable ride even when travelling out through Hell's Gates into open ocean. The several open decks give opportunity to get outside out of the wind and rain. The hours spent on the vessel and on the wilderness walks make the total cost when viewed as a per hour entertainment investment super great value. We would do this again, our dietary requirements were wonderfully met having given them advanced notice. Captain Ross was our excellent skipper and this advanced Hybrid vessel running on electric motors in the river, made for a serene experience. Boardwalks on the shore stops make access easy for those with limited mobility but stairs for premium deck is to be taken into condideration. We realised Strahan is a destination and a people that required a few more days than the 2 nights we allocated. Next time we know better. Great eating options in town.Written 29 September 2024
- T8558LDdougj0 contributionsJourney into the wild for breath taking sceneryThe crew were amazing and very knowledgeable, the scenery is absolutely stunning, the cruise is well worth the money and a great way to see some of the west coast historyWritten 28 August 2024
- jodyw20230 contributionsGreat day out 🤗We had atrocious weather, but that did not prevent us from having a great day. The boat was immaculate, the team were one big happy family who were knowledgeable, funny and polite. We would highly recommend you opt for the big red boat, to support the family with 6 generations of history in the industry. Do yourself a favour and book a cruise, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the history lesson you will receive without sitting in a classroom!!!Written 28 August 2024

Amazing part of the world to see with a great tour company. The 'big red boat' was very comfortable and the dinner was enjoyable and plentiful. The guides on Sarah Island were great, as was our guide - James - at the landing and walk. Photo opportunities the whole trip. We had gold seats. I would definitely pay extra for either platinum or gold seats rather than the standard seats. Much better view.

On the journey you experience a lot of different impressions. Very beautiful landscapes and views but also background information on the history of Tasmania (Sarah Island). There is a very tasty buffet during the trip. The guide on Sarah Island was awesome. The highlight for me was the boardwalk on heritage landing. You can see some huon pines.
I highly recommend the tour.

Welcoming staff and smooth boat ride to Hells Gate, back past the Salmon farms and stops at Sarah Island and forest board walk. The seating was very comfortable and great views from the windows on the upper deck. Recommend getting the window UD seats. Meals and drinks were great. Daniel, working the bar on the Upper Deck provided excellent service on the day. Only criticism was the captain’s commentary was a little annoying, as he continually corrected himself, however lots of good information provided throughout the tour on the history of the Gordon River and the World Heritage River Cruise company. An enjoyable afternoon and great way to tour the waters.

This trip was outstanding. The crew were fantastic, helpful, smiling, engaging and nothing was a problem. The dinner meal tasty and plentiful. Good drink selection at reasonable prices. The river is spectacular and the venture through hello gate a must do. Sarah Island tour very worthwhile and to learn about life prior to Port Arthur was interesting. Overall good value for money and I can't fault anything. Great job World Heritage.
