About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sandra B0 contributionsWheelchair friendly tour!Todd went out of his way to accommodate my husband's abilities and his wheelchair. My husband was easily able to get from his wheelchair into the tour van. Todd provided much appreciated assistance while he did this. I had the day off from lifting the chair in and out of the van as Todd did this for me. At no time did we feel rushed to get moving from one place to the next. We highly recommend Unearthed Tours as a wheelchair friendly company if you have limited mobility.Written 27 March 2024
- 706Hirta0 contributionsFab!Our family tour to Cradle Mountain with Unearthed Tours was nothing short of enchanting. The scenic drive, guided walks, and breathtaking views made for a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. The knowledgeable guides kept us engaged with interesting facts, especially catering to the kids.Written 17 December 2023
- Passenger5751200 contributionsJust transportation, not a tourTour was led by two older gentlemen. Very nice guys but had no information about what the itinerary was or how long the tour was supposed to be. Did not know how long to stop at each place. They were both bus drivers, but one was acting as a guide. The bus itself had a poor defrosting system as the windows steamed up. The roof leaked on people's heads and the speakers on the bus did not work for the PA system. They put something they called a boom box in the back which did not work well. The driver kept telling the "guide" what to tell us.Written 14 December 2022
- Hansd1720 contributionsCouldn't be bettered!Stuart Ashdown took us on an amazingly interesting guided tour of the Burnie area. He could not have been more personable, knowledgeable or helpful. He made our one day there off the cruise ship.Written 13 March 2020
- susan W0 contributionsLovely trip with great knowledgeLovely trip with lots of stops and some interesting facts thrown at us from a lovely lady who was still new to the job but I just know she will be brilliant. After this trip I would recommend Burnie and outlying villages to anyone visiting Tasmania. Value for money.Written 16 February 2020
- Suezzzzzzzzzz0 contributionsTodd the tour manTodd did a fabulous tour for our group of 14 people. He collected us in a mini bus and drove us up to Cradle Mountain with an interesting commentary along the way. After a look around and a walk around the Dove lake we continued on through Sheffield to The Truffledore where we feasted on a delicious lunch prepared by local chef, Naomi Parker. It was a wonderful day and Todd was extremely helpful and interesting. I would definitely recommend him and his tour companyWritten 12 February 2020
- Christinee0 contributionsA fabulous, interesting dayWe were a bit nervous about booking a private trip from our cruise ship in Burnie as private tours are not allowed to pick up from the ship. No need to worry as the shuttle bus took us to the Visitor Centre where we were met by Naomi. Naomi loves North west Tasmania and is very knowledgeable about the area and enthusiastically shares this knowledge. She took us to meet a Wagyu beef producer, a saffron grower and then to a trufferie (yes, that is what a truffle farm is called) before cooking a delicious lunch for us. She is an accomplished chef with excellent credentials. She had us back to the Visitor Centre in plenty of time to catch the shuttle back to the ship We were also taken to a delightful town called Sheffield, which has lots of colourful paintings and interesting looking restaurants. Everywhere Naomi goes she is greeted warmly by growers and locals. It was a pleasure to spend the day with Naomi and I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in food and learning about its production.Written 11 February 2020
- Roothy1230 contributionsWonderful 2/3rd Day with That's the SpiritI first contacted the wonderful tourist info center in Burnie, asking if there were any tours that would take me to see lighthouses, and a bit of the coast, from Burnie to Devonport. They told me about That's the Spirit, so I contacted them. I had some specific things in mind, and they said they could do a tour, just for the two of us, that incorporated the things I wanted to see. I then found 2 more people on my cruise ship to share the tour and cleared that with That's the Spirit. (That didn't bring price down, but that was OK - not my goal. If I hadn't invited others, That's the Spirit would have still taken just the two of us ). On tour day, the 4 of us got on the same shuttle to Makers Workshop and met Stuart Ashdown inside Makers. We were taken briefly to a humble lighthouse on the coast near Burnie, to the little town of Penguin that plays up its name well, briefly to Ulverstone to see its unusual clock, and then to Devonport. There are 2 lighthouses there that I had wanted to see, with Mersey Bluff being the most photogenic. We then went to Sheffield to see the murals there. This was a great tour if you love color, artsy things, and photography. We were also treated to something special - kangaroos fairly close up in a paddock somewhere on the route. Stuart was our driver/guide and we found him excellent - personable, knowledgeable, not too chatty like the occasional tour guide we've had, flexible, organized. His brother Todd was a great communicator before we got to Burnie. He was very responsive to my emails. I would certainly recommend That's The Spirit. We were in Burnie another day on our back to back cruises and took a tour we signed up for at the Makers Workshop. It was less expensive and shorter, and for the money I suppose it was worth it. However, we had a much better tour experience with Stuart. After the tour, we still had a little bit of time to take the free shuttle from Makers to center city Burnie, browse the beautiful Makers Workshop with its workshops, displays and handcrafted artwork, go out back to look for your ship docked a bit away, or crouch down on the boardwalk to look for penguins in the concrete burrows below. Based on my experience, I believe that if there's anything specific that you would like to see, you can ask That's the Spirit if it's possible to customize a tour around those things. There are places to sample things made by local producers, beautiful countryside (poppy fields, fields of brown and green, etc.) and small towns with charm.Written 2 February 2020
- lindam7870 contributionsKookaburras, wallabies, cockatiels, kangaroos and lots of birdsThe hike provided us with lots of wild life sightings. Our guide Lisa was very accommodating making sure we spotted various animals, birds, and that we had water and rest breaks on our rather strenuous hike. Eating a lunch she provided on the beach was a plus. From the beach as we walked across a dried up lagoon we encountered many kangaroos, some in family groups some singly. At the conclusion of our hike on the way back to our ship, she stopped at a cherry ice cream store that made the best cherry ice cream any of us have ever eaten. Wonderful way to end the tour. The brochure stated that day packs and walking sticks would be provided, however they weren’t. We were lucky we had brought our own day packs since we had to carry the lunch and water provided by Lisa. I don’t think Lisa knew this was in the original brochure that her boss Todd Ashdown had advertised since she is an independent contractor guide.Written 11 January 2020

- WarrenG910 contributionsOutstanding customised tourTodd Ashdown of "That'sthespirit tours" provided a generously brilliant customised tour of the Burnie and Devonport area. As a group of 11 señor citizens - several with significant travel experience - we were able to negotiate a comprehensive tour of the area after arriving in Burnie on the Queen Elizabeth. The included noon meal, Don Railway trip and crushed strawberry ice creams in our commodious bus were greatly appreciated. Don't miss Todd when in the area.Written 21 December 2019
- Vonette M0 contributionsGreat day touring around the beautiful Cradle Coast.Thoroughly enjoyed our day touring some of the regions paddock to plate experiences. Food, wine and beer provided by people with a passion for their product. We loved hearing stories about their journey. 8:30 am pick up with 4:30 return, the day went so quickly. Looking forward to our next trip. (I must remember my sun hat) Thanks Todd and Stuart for an awesome day!Written 2 November 2019
- Voreqe0 contributionsWinery tour6star. Stuart of That’s the Spirit tours is a knowledgeable and safe personal tour driver. I visited great wineries, met great people and had a great day. It was just the very thing I had wanted. The company are locally owned and that knowledge, along with the great Tasmanian’s wines, made for an experience to be be remembered. My favourite was La Villa where the Chardonnay 2017 and Pinot Noir 2018 are worth taking overseas. Totally recommendedWritten 8 October 2019
