Tasmanian Devil Feeding Tour . November 2023
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour at Devils @Cradle . Our guide was very knowledgeable about the Tasmanian devils and the Quolls in residence there. We got to spend as much time as we wanted looking around following the tour . The Devils are quite fascinating and it’s good to see the conservation efforts being made to ensure their species survives . Also good to know that visitors are helping to keep the sanctuary going buy visiting and buying tickets as they do not get any funding from anywhere to help with the running costs .

    Highly recommend this encounter
Highly recommend this self funded Tasmanian Devil and Quoll animal conservation. A very informative hour long walk through the park with lots of young, juvenile and adult Devils on view. The presentation, by Prue, was both interesting and entertaining. The feeding of 5 adult male Devils was quite a show. Highly recommend

Must See for many Tassie Devils up close
Absolute must attend when visiting Cradle Mountain Tasmania. Very knowledgable staff and animal keepers. You'll see many Tassie Devil and Quolls up close. Their feeding frenzy is amazing. Fantastic experience

    Cutie devils
We had a really interesting feeding tour with Rory. He answered lots of questions and was really passionate and knowledgeable. Cutie little animals even if watching them eat is a bit gross. Also gave us some gloves to pick up road kill on the long drive back to Hobart. Was great fun flinging it in bushes to keep the roads clear of tassie devils searching for food.

    Incredible experience
What a wonderful experience!! Our tour guide PRU was friendly and knowledgeable and made the evening both educational and enjoyable. I came away from the experience with a heap of new information I didn’t know and a new love and appreciation for both the animals and the hard work devils at cradle do to help preserve and raise awareness about the devils and quolls. Any questions we had Pru was able to answer in great detail. The baby devils were definitely my favourite part of the experience and it was really nice to finish off with a lovely platter of Tassie sweets. Highly recommend this experience!!

    Fantastic experience. Great guide
The staff were really welcoming. We were unable to make the original booking (snow) and they readily suggested an alternate time. The Guide was knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating to a range of different needs within our group. Very worthwhile

    Devils Upclose
We learn a lot of interesting facts about the Devils from our guide. The guide fed the devils a dead animal which made me a little queasy watching the Devils tear it apart. I thought it was costly for the state of facilities. I realise they are not funded and possibly the reason why.

    A must do experience
A great experience, rangers talk was informative and very interesting. Feeding time tour is a must do experience. Make sure you go a bit earlier and see them calmly laying around before the food comes out.

    Winter Joey Encounter
If you get a chance to do the Joey encounter I 1000% recommend it. How many people can say they’ve patted a Tasmanian Devil!!?? The whole experience from start to finish was amazing. Our young kids (2 & 4) got to participate and both got to pat the devils - even though they had no idea how cool it was. Afterwards we were taken on a little tour of the centre and ended with toasting marshmallows surrounded by Tassie Devils and a private feeding viewing while enjoying the fire. Would do this again in a heartbeat. One of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced!

    The best wildlife experience ever
We chose to have 'Dessert with the devils' on a very cold winter night and it was the most enjoyable, unexpected, informative wildlife experience I have ever been on. Usually one pays an extortionate amount at a city zoo for an 'intimate' encounter with an animal, but this was so much better. We arrived well wrapped up and were greeted by amazingly friendly staff who passed us to Sarah, our guide for the evening. The first thing that one noted when we walked in was the instant Devil action. Look, right there! Little dudes all scampering up to see if we had dinner. Not elusive or mysterious, these little guys, just super cute and very busy. Although Sarah was busy lighting the fire and prepping for the tour she nevertheless welcomed us like friends, got us a glass of wine and chatted away while we waited for the rest of the party - being only two other people. Once we were all there, drinks in hand, we were joyfully surprised to have the privilege of meeting Nugget, a juvenile who Sarah had hand reared, and who snuggled happily into her while we got a pat. Top up your glasses and go for a wander around the pens, enjoying Sarah's passion and knowledge and clear delight in all the animals and the work they do at this lovely facility. A good look at the quolls (who are almost as good as the devils, don't let me suggest otherwise) then back for marshmallows in the fire, some sweet treats (more wine) and the sheer bliss that was feeding time for the teenagers. I don't think it's possible to really describe a bunch of funny little juvenile devils bickering over wallaby tails and chasing each other at high speed in big circles to try and steal food they couldn't see... But it was beyond delightful. This place does amazing work and the wildlife staff are clearly thrilled to be able to do so. We got to go back in the morning as we left the mountain, and say hi to the few who were awake, and still the staff were full of bounce and welcome. The cost of the experience may look high when you book, but honestly it was more than good value. I would have felt the same if we had paid more. See the devils at night and go back to say good morning, or vice versa. But do it here.

Extremely informative guides with passion for these animals
Made a brief stop here while visiting Cradle Mountain and was not disappointed. Plenty of fantastic photo opportunities of both the devils and quolls, as there are multiple large exhibits of each animal. The keepers' passion for animal conservation was obvious and they were extremely informative about the projects they supported. It was interesting hearing about how they selected which devils to use for breeding season and the keeper talk I observed showed us how they check in on the couple that they were attempting to breed at the time (early May). Definitely visit if you're going to be in the area!

Due to the late sunset the name of the After Dark Feeding Tour is a bit misplaced. We went on the 5.30pm tour - around 3.5 hours before sunset. That aside, the tour was excellent. Plenty of active Devils & Quolls and in close proximity. The guide was informative, engaging and passionate about the conservation of these Tasmanian icons. Highly recommend.

Wonderful experience. Arrived about an hour earlier and wondered around learning about the Devils and Quolls until the feeding experience started. The knowledge and presentation given was brilliant and I recommend anyone staying in the area to make the tour. Although ours was the after dark, with daylight saving it was still daylight but that didn’t make a difference to the experience. So much Happening with the conservation of these and Rory was a wonderful guide telling us all about these and the Quolls which are also endangered.

Hi Vee_paul, We are glad you had a wonderful time wondering around the sanctuary, enjoying watching the devils and quolls before the fun begins on the tour. Rory is definitely passionate about Tasmanian devils but he is particularly fond of Spotted-tail quolls and Eastern quolls and we are glad that enjoyed your expierence with him as your guide. We hope that you will have the opportunity to come back and visit us in the future. Kind regards, The Devils @ Cradle team

We loved this experience. You must enter the park area and the entry to the devils is after the Info centre on the right. It is quite a small set up but easy parking, a good gift store, friendly staff and a vast number of fenced-in areas for the tassie devil and the close relative the quoll. We spent about 40 min walking around the areas watching and taking photos of the animals before the tour. The tour was very informative and our guide had so much knowledge of everything about the devils. He was friendly, talked loudly and clearly loved the animals and was passionate about their preservation. We got to watch the devils and quolls feeding. The only thing is it was very cold - make sure you rug up. We did wear lots of clothes. There is nothing for food or drink there and it would have been nice to have a coffee machine there to warm us up - we wouldn't have minded paying. This tour is definitely worth it.

We did the Night Feeding Tour and it was amazing! The staff were so knowledgeable and passionate and able to pass on the information in a way that worked for all ages. The Devils are so cute and so active after dark! The Quolls are also very cute. Just love the fact that this is a sanctuary and profits going towards helping keep the Devils safe and healthy and are even beginning to have a success rate with fighting the cancer that has so badly affected the species. Can’t recommend this highly enough.

The after dark feeding was fun and informative and lasted just over an hour. Predictably it was uncomfortably cold because it involves standing still for most of the time. The information about the Tasmanian devils and quolls was well presented interesting and you get a good view of the animals. The downside was the tour/ feeding could have been a bit better set up. The guide needed to have a microphone and some better lighting .

This was a brillint opportunity to learn more about Tasmanian devils, and to see what is being done to help preserve the species for the future. This isn't like a zoo or an ordinary sanctuary: these Tasmanian devils are being prepared for release in the wild. Watching the way the feeder interacted with the animals showed her dedication to them, whilst she also dispelled some common myths about Tasmanian devil feeding habits. The quolls were an added bonus, too, and incredibly cute. It was cold, it was raining, but that did not detract from the magic of this experience.

It was a 75 minute tour of the enclosures with our guide providing interesting details about the Tasmanian Devils, how they develop into adults, their behaviour and the reasons why they are endangered. It was fascinating to watch the animals tussle when they were provided with their food. The guide spoke passionately about the work of the sanctuary and its role in breeding healthy specimens which will in the future be returned to the wild once an effective vaccine has been widely used in the wild population. Later in the tour we viewed Quolls being fed - much more endangered but not so much in the public consciousness. We learned a lot from the tour - it was a very worthwhile excursion to learn so much more about Tasmanian fauna,

Great experience. My husband and I went to to 5.30pm session. It was fantastic to see and hear the Tassy Devils and quolls being fed. Lots of great information about these special animals. The only tip I would give is to not book a stay too far away after this experience. Hubby and I were on hyper alert during our trip to the next destination as dusk is the key feeding time for Aussie animals.

It is so encouraging to know that there are people like you taking care of our beautiful animals. Something as simple as reducing your speed between dusk and dawn makes a massive impact on reducing roadkill. Thank you 🎖🏆 Devils@Cradle Team

Amazing must see experience! Beautiful animals and the after dark tour was a great time to see them. The sanctuary is doing great work to ensure the devils and quolls continued survival. This project gets no government funding, so if you take the tour and buy merchanise you will be backing the work these people are doing in conservation to these beautiful animals. Gemma an engaging and knowledgeable presenter. Highly recommend!

This was a really good animal experience. Sarah led the group and was both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You’re able to get a really look look at both Tasmanian Devils and Quolls as well as learn a great deal about both species. I considered it money well spent and took a gazillion photos and videos 😊
