About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- trangh8630 contributionsGreat experienceThe tour guide team is really trying to help us find the dolphins in super windy weather. Really appreciate it!!! Highly recommended.Written 25 December 2024
- lukeusr0 contributionsNo attempt to go to Seal Island, disappointedTour was disappointing. One group showed up 10min late, so we didn't have enough time to go to Seal Island. As this was advertised in the tour, we were very upset. I understand not seeing seals, but no attempt was made to go to Seal Island. We spent most of the time watching dolphins, which was amazing, but not as the sole tour attraction. Staff were lovely, although I wished they'd have left on time instead of waiting for the late group.Written 25 December 2024
- C3497OVdenises0 contributionsBest boat trip :)The boat is excellent!!! The staff are very polite and professional. Did not disappoint. Dolphins and seals are so beautiful!!!Written 22 October 2024
- sureshk870 contributionsUndertakes with all precaution and safety. Nice and cooperative staff.uidelines.Very exciting journey of tour. Enjoyed fully. Visited all places as mentioned in the tour iternary. Very informative commentaryWritten 8 October 2024
- Y8875XRkristinec0 contributionsDelight in an amazing Ocean ExperienceWhat a fun ride! We saw sea lions and dolphins and good views of the outer rocky islands.. nice boat and friendly hosts. The ocean was quite smooth as was the boat ride and the views were spectacular. I recommend this 45 minute venture…Written 30 September 2024
- Anne R0 contributionsLots of animal sightings and fun boat ride.Well organised and professional. Blowing a gale, big seas but the jackets kept me dry and i always felt safe. The commentary was informative and just the right amount.Written 5 September 2024
- Footprints5611960 contributionsThe Big Duck Boat Tours - Poor processes when accidents happen - be carefulIt was okay, cover-alls were excellent but don't expect to be excited when you see a whale as they have to stay 300m away from the whale so you don't see much. I had a fall as disembarking and the assistance was terrible, I was bleeding through jeans from one leg and severely swollen (immediately) on the other and ultimately I required stitches and x-rays and I am very badly bruised on both legs, there has been no follow up from the tour people at all. I guess too concerned about their waiver. They didn't even walk me up the causeway (150m) to my car, just said I should go to the hospital. The fall wasn't my error it was the boat dropping as I stepped off, no hand rails between boat and dock and no platform between boat and dock just a woman holding out her hand to assist, which did nothing as I started to fall. I am not elderly and I am quite fit so if you are elderly or not that fit I would not recommend going when the weather is even a little rough. Boat was comfortable, just disappointed with their lack of care other than some gauze to help with bleeding.Written 23 July 2024
- 325belindaj0 contributionsFun for all of us.We made a last minute booking for our family 4, very grateful for the raincoats provided. My almost 4 year old and 5 year old loved it as much as we did.Written 10 July 2024
- Thilina_SL0 contributionsMust try experienceIf you love the sea, this is an experience you shouldn't miss. We had a unique time on the boat ride, spotting a few baby penguins and sea lions. The captain provided interesting information about them during the tour. Make sure to book online before you go. The ride was very safe.Written 9 June 2024
- 774pamelar0 contributionsExcitement right on our doorstep. This was my second trip with Big Duck. The first was along the coastline at Normanville. The second was around the islands off Victor Harbor. Both trips were excellent. Lots of information. The rock formation off Normanville was amazing & of course seeing it from the boat gave a totally different perspective. We saw seals & off from Victor dolphins right up close. Magic. My grandchildren loved the very exciting boat ride round the Victor islands. Heartily recommend both trips. Totally professional. Felt very safe while enjoying the exciting ride, wonderful views & close ups with seals, birds & dolphins.🎉🎉Written 26 April 2024
- kirsteno3480 contributionsDefinitely worth doingWe loved the Sea Wirrina tour! Lucky enough to have a pod of dolphins spend time with us, which was so fun and so beautiful, the kids were really excited. The guides were friendly and shared interesting info about the cliffs and jetties and inlets and sea life and we saw sea lions and seals. Brilliant! Would do again.Written 20 April 2024
- Ian C0 contributionsSeals...dolphins and more dolphins!!Went while visiting family in Aldinga, my better half was nervous as not a boat lover but by the end she was absolutely loving it! The staff were knowledgable and entertaining, the views amazing. Find some time to do this you won't regret itWritten 14 April 2024
- ScottF4320 contributionsHighly recommendedThis tour is a little gem. Reasonably priced and the perfect length (1 hour). The boat was very comfortable, and we were blessed with a perfect Easter Day. The ride out (south) from the marina is the informative part of the trip, with skipper Andrew stopping at several points of interest along the way - caves, hidden beaches, old jetties, and of course seals and sea-lions. The trip back is an exhilarating high-speed ride. The view of the cliffs from the sea, coupled with the turquoise sea, is spectacular.Written 29 March 2024
- V7372QGnicolam0 contributionsFabulous tour. The tour was fabulous from the boat itself, the staff and the spectacular ocean and scenery. The highlight was the Close up plentiful wildlife- dolphins, seals and sea lions. Such a special experience. (My photos don’t do justice). Thanks Kirk and Skipper for your great commentary.Written 18 March 2024
- T9535TOkathyn0 contributionsFantasticGreat experience. The waters, outlook and sea life was fantastic. I recommend this to all. Water was still for anyone who gets sea sick. Boat crew were very informational.Written 26 February 2024

After seeing The Big Duck Tours featured on TV, and seeing photos on their Facebook page, we decided the night before to book a tour for the next day, Sunday. We booked the Southern Ocean Adventure because we have always wanted to try and see Dolphins and Seals in their home. Well, we were not disappointed! We had Pods of Dolphins frolicking around the boat and Our tour guides Captain Kirk and Jessie were very informative about the mammals and the islands and areas that both seals and dolphins live, as well as some local history.
The sea was a little choppy, but we enjoyed riding the waves and felt safe in the boat at all times.
I would like to do the 4-hour tour next time, and possibly do a whale watching tour during the winter months.
We thoroughly would recommend for any tourists either, international, visitors from interstate, or like us from Adelaide to add this on their must do list. It was fantastic.

So worth the time and money to get memories to last forever. Time went so quickly, got close to seals, sea lions, birds, dolphins, wild and rugged clifs. Tour guide (Sophie) and Master (Lachlan) were very knowledgeable and gave an interesting commentary. When we saw a wild pod of dolphins we stoped near them for so everyone could get to see them. Being a small boat everyone is move around and get to see all the sights within being crowded. We recommend this tour and will go again during 🐋 whale watching season.

My partner and I enjoyed the 90 minute boat tour. We saw sea lions, dolphins and lots of birds! Growing up in Adelaide and visiting Victor Harbour as a kid I had always wondered about the islands off the coast and this tour provided up close and personal view of the island itself and the animals that live there! Dolphins also swim very close to the boat which was amazing. I was worried about the weather because it was forecast rain/ wind but that didn’t damper the experience at all. Coats were provided and the sea spray added to the fun. Great value for money. I would love to go again on a beautiful sunny day during whale watching season.

It was a windy day and there was plenty of bouncing and splashing as we travelled. And along the way we were accompanied by dolphins, watched playful seals, and saw plenty of birds. We also enjoyed seeing the coastline around Victor Harbor from a different angle. The crew were helpful and informative. We had a great trip. It says not suitable for children under 2 but I would think about whether it would suit up to six if the weather is at all rough.

Thanks for your review! The perspective from the ocean is quite amazing looking back at the rugged coastline of Encounter Bay. The age appropriateness of the tours are a bit dependent on the sea conditions on the day and best judged by parents - my young kids adore the adventurous ride on the Big Duck.

We went on the Southern Ocean Adventure Tour and had an amazing time. Viewing an amazing coastline and getting to see dolphins, sea lions and seals.
Then we saw the new Sea the Fleurieu Tour and managed to get tickets on the first cruise. Again amazing scenery, such a dramatic coastline full of hidden gems. The captain and crew were very friendly and so much knowledge and information of the area. Plenty of marine life to see and a couple of of very special moments, getting up close to a pod of dolphins having a feeding frenzy on a ball of baitfish and then a Leatherback Turtle was very special.
Would recommend both of these tours but highly recommend the Sea the Fleurieu Tour (just take a warm jacket, gets quite chilly with the sea breeze).

The staff were professional, informative and personable. Despite some rough sea, wind and spots of rain we had a terrific trip into the Ocean seeing seals, lots of birds and 2 different types of dolphins who put on a bit of a show. It was a very pleasurable experience and seeing the cliffs and islands from the ocean was another most worthwhile thing to do. The spray jackets were much appreciated. Highly recommended.

It was a raining, windy day that we took the boat ride. Be prepared for a wet and rough ride. It is an adventurous ride which you will thoroughly enjoy. We had to walk to the boat on a jetty during rain. If weather forecast says rain please carry an umbrella. Please make sure of a vehicle to return to Adelaide as you will not get Uber to get back home. Local taxis charge double fare. There is a good sea side island restaurant. The pilot and guide during the boat ride are very courteous and friendly. Overall a good experience. We could see dolphins, sea lions and birds.

Thanks so much for your review! Transport options to the South Coast are limited from Adelaide, we can reccomend several great day tour options that include our Big Duck Tours (Adelaide Sightseeing Tour or/ Ambler Touring) - combining travel to/from the CBD with a day tour & the Big Duck.

The weather was great and we boarded the boat from Victor Harbour wearing waterproof ponchos as the crew explained the safety procedures. The boat was very sturdy and safe.
We travelled a fair distance and there were ample stops to provide opportunities to take photos of various nature in the water and on land while the crew gave an excellent commentary.
The tour was fabulous and the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable.
I would highly recommend taking a Big Duck Boat Tour.

This is the second time my wife son & I have been done this tour. Because of our positive experience last time we didn't hesitate to take our Japanese exchange Student plus two more family members on this tour. Once again two thumbs up :-) They thoroughly enjoyed it and so did we. Although not guaranteed spotting of wild Dolphins, the crew do their upmost to make it happen. We had the thrill of having one of the Pods come up and swim around the boat. The Dolphins are only one part of the whole tour. Do yourself a big favour and go on one of Big Duck Tours

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Big Duck - we saw dolphins within 4 minutes of departure. We were also lucky enough to see 2x Southern Right Whales and found the insightful commentary on their behaviour in the area informative. Finished the tour with a swing past Seal Rock and rode some big waves back to Granite Island. Staff were friendly and made the trip all the more enjoyable, definitely get out and do this during whale season. And take your binoculars!
