Hardys: Tasting in the Dark: A Wine Sensory Experience

By Hardys Tintara
About
Your Tasting in the Dark Experience will begin at the Hardys Tintara Cellar Door. You will meet your host at the Cellar Door where you will be guided to our Fortified Barrel Hall. This room is on the bottom level of the original winery, and maintains a constant temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, so make sure to bring a jacket in the colder months. Your host will then guide you through the wine tasting process and describe what role each of the senses play during the process. With the lights turned down, blindfolds on, and sipping from black wine glasses, you will discover what happens when you remove the sense of sight, and understand how it influences your wine tasting experience. This tasting is about enhancing your wine knowledge and gaining a deeper understanding of your palate.

      Nice visit to iconic winery
Excellent service attitude. We arrived very near closing hour, staff obliged to allow the wine tasting session, which was informative and warm. Good quality wine of course.

Worth visiting, whether you’re a wine enthusiast or history fan
Well established, well set out and maintained historical winery and grounds. Very picturesque, especially on a fine sunny day. The staff were welcoming and friendly and pleased to talk about the various wines for tasting. A separate building provides artisans with work spaces and a gallery to show and sell their works-definitely worth visiting too.

      Taste testing
The cellar door was magnificent and the grounds are the best in McLaren Vale. The shady fig trees and open grounds are perfect for a picnic or just relaxing with a bit of lunch.

Nice spot for a drink & lunch
Enjoyed our wine tasting experience and shared platter of food. Staff probably not quite as attentive as other wineries that we had visited but then Hardys wine sells itself!

      Hardly Worth It
Attractive winery but the tasting experience was pretty ordinary as were the wines. Probably need to visit this one early in the day when the staff might be a bit more enthusiastic.

      Lovely and picturesque
Was only able to make a very short visit, however what id did see was a stunning place with a great layout and very picturesque. As you walk around and can see instantly it is well kept and clean and tidy, the staff are lovely. I went to collect an order but will definitely be going back for a full visit and wine tasting, excellent location amd well worth a visit for the wine lovers.

      A wonderful experience
Our small group undertook the Icon Wine tasting at Hardys recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the world of wine. Marty was a wonderful host and gave us an insight into the history of the Winery and the region.

      Beautiful old buildings and history
We chose this winery because we knew the name and thought it would be a good first stop. It certainly was and we loved visiting the older building and reading the history of Hardy wines in this area. We were also intrigued with the family history of this winery. We didn't really need to but decided while we were here to do a tasting so I tried a Fiano which I believe is an Italian blend and thought it was a good white wine.

      Excellent customer service
My parents and I had a wine tasting while my husband and two girls played cricket on the lawn. The 2 lads attending us were very helpful and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We also loved our family picnic under the big trees (we had brought our picnic lunch from home). It is a beautiful estate. Wine is priced low to high so there is something on offer for everyone. There is a small charge of $5pp for the wine tasting but is a very reasonable price for the amount of wines you are able to taste.

      Very interesting
Very interesting small museum exploring the history and process of wine making. Viewing galleries to see modern wine making equipment. Tastings available at cellar door.

      Middle Stop
This was the second stop on our three winery tour around McLaren Vale, nice cheeses to eat with the varied wines, bought 2 bottles of sparkling Shiraz.

      "Outstanding in many ways"
This beautiful blue stone built winery was a delight. Firstly we spent time in the art gallery and couldn't drag ourselves away. Interesting pottery and paintings by local artists. After having a wander around into the winery building where unfortunately they were not processing grapes that day, it was time for tasting the finished product. Hardy's was one of Australia's first wineries and their products especially the ports are excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable time... and yes we did buy some wine. The roses still blooming, are stunning named after Ingrid Bergman.

      Now the process
We came in. A lot of parking. Seems there was only staff at the shop/bar. But.. the winery building was open and they explained the process and key figure people. 5 star due to seeing the process

We arrived at Hardy's close to the end of the day but were still made to feel welcome. We had a quick tasting and chose a very good red. The staff were relaxed and informative. We hope to return and spend more time learning about wines from this great name.
