About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:

- rebeccagT6284PM0 contributionsTropic Wings Daintree - Fantastic Day!We had a fantastic time on the Tropic Wings Daintree Tour. Our Tour guide was Ben, and he was absolutely fantastic. We first went to the Wildlife Habitat which was great with a little tour included and light refreshments! We then went on our Daintree River cruise where we luckily spotted a Crocodile swimming up the river! After our river cruise, we then went up to Cape Tribulation Beach which was absolutely beautiful which was then followed by a walk through the Rainforest with Ben who talked to us about the trees/plants in the rainforest and we even spotted a few cool insects on our way round! We then walked through to Myall Beach which was stunning. After this we headed off to lunch, which we thought was great. At the beginning of the day, you pick what you would like for lunch, and you have a few extra choices to go along side your choice! After this we went to cool off in the Swimming Hole which was very much needed as it was a very hot day! After this, we headed back towards our hotel and on the way, we got some ice cream which was very refreshing after a fantastic day out with Tropic Wings! Thank you, Ben!Written 30 January 2025
- clemsatx0 contributionsAn very enjoyable day tripThe day we took the tour there was 12 people in the group. This allowed getting to know fellow travelers easier. Don, our driver and guide for the day, was well organized, knowledgeable and friendly. He had many stories to share. The first stop of the day was the wildlife habitat. While we got around most of the exhibits, it would have been nice to have had an additional 45 minutes (or maybe we should have spent less time with the koalas and kangaroos!). Next was the Mossman Gorge. The welcome to country by Uncle Tom was interesting and informative. After a walk in the rainforest (and opportunity to paddle in the river) there was a delicious wrap sandwich served (was a choice of filling). After lunch we went in search for salty crocs from a boat cruise on the Daintree. We saw a juvenile and mother “Bruce” guarding her nest. There were ample toilet breaks throughout the day and the coach was modern, comfortable and air conditioned.Written 22 January 2025
- cynthiawF2893PT0 contributionsTropic Wings Daintree TourI had an amazing experience on the Tropic Wings Cape Tribulation and Daintree Tour! The trip was well-organized, and each stop offered something unique and memorable. Our tour guide, Ben, was fantastic—he was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many fascinating stories about the area’s history, culture, and wildlife, which made the journey even more enjoyable. The highlights of the tour for me were the Wildlife Habitat and the stunning Daintree Rainforest, where I felt completely immersed in nature. The Daintree River Cruise was another standout moment—we were lucky enough to spot a wild crocodile in its natural habitat, which was thrilling to witness! Overall, it was a well-rounded trip filled with breathtaking views, exciting wildlife encounters, and plenty of interesting insights. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the beauty and diversity of the Daintree region.Written 19 January 2025

- Trek2860860 contributionsAmazing!!!Had a great all encompassing day out with Lisa who shared a lot of her knowledge and personal experiences. The tour covered so much more was covered than I expected. Had a lovely hands on visit to see indigenous animals. We then partook in an Aboriginal smoke ceremony and learnt a lot about their way of life from Rodney who spoke with passion. We visited the rainforest then had a yummy lunch. After a quick stop to view the beach we finished off with a trip on the river spotting crocs. A really great day where even the weather cooperated after torrential rain overnight. Thanks so much Lisa.Written 6 January 2025

There is so much intrigue and twists in his stories. We thoroughly enjoyed touring with DOM. This is one of our favorite tours so far in Australia thanks to him. He is so knowledgeable and interesting. Best tour guide ever.Written 23 December 2024
- G T0 contributionsAboriginal centre worth a visit - markets not so muchGreat time at Kuranda village, a lovely Aboriginal educational tour, spear throwing by a Guinness book of records holder; Michael Enoch, a boomerang lesson, small animal tour and WW11 duck ride. The second part of the day was to the art markets, which closed before pick up. We were there 2 hours and it was far too long. We missed the dream walk at Kuranda and rushed the lunch food and in hindsight more time in the cultural centre would have been much better than wandering markets in the rain and waiting for the coach because the markets closed. All in all, a good day out tho and worth the Aboriginal stories about the lost generation.Written 21 December 2024
- Dream138552315460 contributionsStunning trip with Dom and Tropic WingsTour drivers can make or break a trip. Dom was our driver for the day and he was fabulous! He's a Cairns native, knowledgeable, funny, and kind. The trip itself was a beautiful, jam-packed day: traveling along the coastline, stopping at the beach, having up close encounters with amazing birds and animals at the wildlife center, taking a short boat trip on the Daintree River to see crocodiles, and walking through the rainforest. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself thoroughly!Written 10 December 2024

This was definitely a highlight to our trip to Cairns!! Just beautiful and unique all day long!! Everything is extremely organized - you get two different nicely laid out itinerary sheets throughout the day, but it's also flexible enough for you to go at your own leisure during many parts! It was gorgeous everywhere you looked, and so many interesting things to learn! Definitely take the time to do the guided ranger tour on the aerial tram, and do all of the things on the suggested itinerary! The train is really unique - we HIGHLY recommend reaching out to the tour vendor to upgrade your tickets for that portion - worth every penny! And the tour company was very helpful in all of the planning and our changes! If you have an option, we loved doing the Skyway in the morning and train on the way back down - it was so nice to have the flexible time on the way up, and the relaxing ride down. This is a must do tour in the area!

We had the package with a historic train ride, Australian Butterfly Sanctuary (take a zoom if you have a camera), Rainforest Station with a short amphibious vehicle tour through the rainforest, Aboriginal dance performance and boomerang throwing, etc., mini zoo and then the return journey by cable car. Everything was perfectly organized and there was enough time for the Australian barbecue at lunchtime and on the way back by cable car for the two viewing point stops.
If you're not into butterflies, you could just stroll through Kuranda for a longer time instead. For an additional charge, you could hold koalas in your arms at the zoo and you could also pet the kangaroos. The only thing that was free at the buffet was tap water. In the Rainforest Station restaurant, there was good coffee for an additional charge. The Aborigines put on a great show and were nice to children. The boomerang throwing was very funny. The Aboriginal spear throwing was really impressive. The other guides were all in a good mood and competent. Our bus driver even picked us up at our Airbnb (it was on the way and the road was wide enough)

Really excellent trip. We enjoyed all aspects and would recommend it without hesitation. It’s extremely well organised and the typed itinerary was foolproof. (Unless you happened to lose it - if you are that kind of fool do take a pic of it straight away.😁) The basic carriages are not air conditioned but if you sit on a cotton throw they are fine. Otherwise the seats could be a bit sweaty in summer. The ladies on the train were great and made sure passengers were evenly distributed throughout the train irrespective of our allocated seats.
We loved the butterfly sanctuary and the whole Pamagirri experience. The restaurant was a bit disorganised the day we went and the vegetarian options were limited. There was a good choice for meat eaters and the food was well-cooked.
Sadly the return trip on Skyline was cancelled as a big thunderstorm blew up. The operator got everyone back to their hotels by bus and the operator had set the refund for the cable car in motion before 12 noon the following day. Thank you Tropic Wings. 👍

The score on the review does not relate to the actual activities, which were fantastic and I would highly recommend. The Rainforestation Centre was great with the Aboriginal dancing, music playing, spear throwing and boomerang throwing, but in particular the WW2 Duck Vehicle trip was great! The Kuranda Skyrail was also great allowing for some really good pictures and views. The scenic train was good although better if you get a window seat. No comment on the village or butterfly sanctuary as due to some issues with the train (1 HR late) I couldn't see these. The main issue was I believe it oversold a tour with a guide. The reality was a bus to the train station, with a driver who offered some entertaining narrative and then you are own your own. The activities themselves are narrated but I kind of expected a tour guide who would give a bit of history about the place beyond the specific activities. Feel like I could have booked each bit individually and had exactly the same experience, which is not what I expect from a guided tour

Hi @O4177DPchrisb, thank you for your review. We are delighted that you and your family enjoyed your Kuranda tour with Tropic Wings and loved the many different activities in the itinerary. We are sorry to hear that there is some disappointment with your expectation of "guided" tour. On our Kuranda day tour, your driver guide give you an itinerary of the day and explain it to you, and when you arrive in different locations, you will be guided there as well, As we cater for everyone's different choices of activities, there is no single guide throughout the day.
We appreciate your feedback as we strive to give everyone the best experience.

So we did the Railway/ sky rail return through Qld railways..the most convoluted and inefficient way of booking the trip by phone.
So when you turn up to the Station you have got to wait in a line for 45 minutes to pick up your tickets.
The trip was uninspiring but the Skyrail trip back was good…again you have to que to exchange your Qld rail ticket for a sky rail ticket .
Then you arrive an hour before the bus which you have been told meets you and gets you back to Cairns railway station by 2.00..where in fact it leaves at 2.00 so we had to dice the bus and go by Uber…
So when thinking about it it was not worth the time or money

We would love to get some more information from you as, currently, Tropic Wings does not have any products that include 14:00 Skyrail service. Tropic Wings drivers collect Skyrail Tickets in advance for our customers. The customers are not required to que in any reception to collect their own ticket.
At the moment, the only tour supplier who sells tickets to go up by Railway and come down by Skyrail is QLD Railway.
Therefore, if you can please reach out to us at digital@capta.com.au to provide more information would be appreciated.

The views from the Skyrail were phenomenal. The Railway views were hard to see unless you were directly by the window. Get the Diamond Skyrail which allows you to see the canopy through the floor and also to skip the lines that are very long for the regular Skyrail cars. In Kuranda we went to the Kuranda Koala Gardens and were able to get a photo holding a koala which was worth a trip to Australia in itself.

It’s a very full day but you get to see a lot of the tourist highlights while someone else does the planning and driving. They pick you up in the morning and give you a colored wristband and an itinerary based on the activities you e selected. It’s all very clear. The high lights were the train ride, Dreamtime, and the town. We carved out a bit more time in town by o Ku goi g to the butterflies for 25 minutes instead of 45. The sky buckets were also great and we did stop and the two places to look around. The duck boat was probable the least exciting part. No animals out this time of day and our guide mostly focused on all the plants that can harm you.

very nice excursion but the timing is short... especially if you have difficulty or slowness in walking. The only downside for us is that nothing is translated into French, so it is difficult to understand everything that is explained to you if you do not master the language. we missed our connecting bus to reach kuranda and the next one was an hour later… fortunately we were helped by the driver of the next bus (girl with pink hair as she called) who helped us reschedule our excursion because we had lost our group… she was our guardian angel thanks to her… the staff
is very pleasant and smiling. The delicious and unlimited bbq (be careful 1/2 hour to eat and join the rest of the program) the site is magnificent and the animals wonderful… nice amphibious duck ride (comments only in English). I recommend this day

Me and my family took an army duck tour last sunday and we had a really good time. We would like to compliment your new guide Mark. He had really good and interesting comments about nature and wildlife that made the tour fun and enjoyable. We also loved other activities in Kuranda, like the Pamagirri Aboriginal experience. We learned how to throw a boomerang and we enjoyed the presentation of Aboriginal coulture. The scenic Railway had some really good views and the train to Cairns was most enjoyable. Sending love from Slovenia.

Tropic Wings are a reliable, professional and great value tour operator. We booked the classic Kuranda trip, as I’m not keen on butterflies, and it was fabulous! Trip highlights were most definitely the sky rail which we took into the village; the army duck tour with a truly hilarious driver/guide and the fantastic BBQ lunch. Interesting show and demonstrations of indigenous dances and traditions such as the didgeridoo and throwing a boomerang. Kuranda rail trip to Cairns was also very pleasant with some incredible views. Coach driver was always in the right place at the right time which was very much appreciated. Highly recommend this tour company.

we are group of 8 people, will be staying in Hilton Hotel arriving on 29th November 2022. do you have hotel pickup and drop off service. what will be your pickup and drop off time?
Written 15 July 2022
Have you booked directly with Skyrail or have you booked a tour? Some people will pick you up and others will not. If you have not booked a tour speak with your hotel to find out how to get there, cheers and enjoy!
Written 15 July 2022
Hi. Am we meet just at the station rather than getting picked up from a hotel?
Written 6 March 2022
Hotel pickup commences around 7:30am (in my case 7:40am) and drop off back to your hotel starts around 4:30pm after you get off the Skyrail.
On my tour the intermediate times looked like this.
Train to Kurunda - 09:00am - 10:30am
Butterfly Sanctuary - 11:00am -11:30am
Lunch - 12:15pm - 12:45pm
Rainforestation Activities - 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Skyrail 3:45pm - 4:30pm
After each activity a bus picks you up and transfers you to the next activity.

Hi just wondering how suitable the Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail is for little kids aged between 2 years to 6 years of age? Has anyone done this recently with children and if so do you have any recommendations or suggestions? We are thinking of doing the Railway one way and Skyrail back. Thanks.
Written 9 June 2021
I would take the kids. It doesn't take long and they will be fascinated at the height and views. The sky is better than the rail but both were great

1-my hotel is the Novotel Cairns - Oasis. pickup/dropoff ok?
2-which parts of the tour have guides and which will be on our own?
3-are souvenir photos with koalas available for purchase?
4-are there any other optional costs?
5-is exploring Kuranda village on the return leg and for how long?
6-what time is the pickup to return to the hotel? are there more than 1 available in case we wanted a later return?
thanks,

1) I didn’t stay at Novotel so can’t say about pickup drop....you will have to check with hotel
2) There are specified timings for the guided tour which you can on station take via sky rail.
3)Souvenir photos yes at the exit of skyrail station chargeable basis. Good quality. I don’t recall the Koala photos.
4) yes upgrading to the diamond class....Gondola has a transparent foot resting part
5) I have not understood your question
