Great opportunity to hold a koala
It is my understanding that this is the only location in Australia that allows for the holding of a koala. It's for a very short time- enough to take a photo- but it's worth it. You can also feed kangaroos here. Definitely worth a visit.

    Koalas in the rainforest
Spent around 1 hour in here looking at all the different animals on show. Sadly the wallabies and kangaroos didn't want to eat from our hands but still loved seeing the koalas up close

Visit if you can’t get to another wildlife sanctuary in Oz
I thought I would spend the whole day here but went round pretty quickly. It’s good to see if you won’t get to visit another wildlife sanctuary in Australia (definitely recommend their partner - Hartley’s Crocodile Farm). Go as late as you can, close to closing, as the animals are fed at the end of the day and become more interactive.

This is ok to go to
This wildlife centre is good for mainly overseas travellers. It had a lovely big Wombat. Also Koala's, Quokka's, kangaroos and lizards. We didn't get any photo's done with a Koala or anything like that nor did we see any of the presentations. This visit was nice but the one in Port Douglas is better we felt. It didn't take long to go around the centre.

    Kids loved it
The kids enjoyed seeing the koalas, kangaroos, crocs and lizards. Was a good place to visit whilst in Kuranda, we bundled the 3 attractions together and it was well worth it.

    Get the koala photo!
A fantastic way to see our cuddly koalas up close and personal! A small, interactive park which is well set out. My visit was specifically to get the photo of me holding a koala - well worth the money & a great experience for all ages!! Friendly staff and plenty of photo opportunities.

    Poor Value.
If you’re with kids or didn’t venture into Australia’s spectacular wilderness, maybe this would be worth the $21 AUS. But to me it was an utter waste of money. We spent a mere 25 minutes in this glorified petting zoo. The animals are understandably tired of interacting with humans. It’s a quick walk through, basically.

    We regret buying tickets
I was just in the koala gardens. Being able to hold and touch a koala is heavily advertised. It costs AUD 21 per entry. 36 AUD for entrance fee and to hold a koala. Luckily we only paid for the entrance fee because this was the saddest sight I have ever seen of a koala and other animals in a zoo. Long queues to have a flash photo taken with an animal that usually sleeps during the day. We find this very sad, unethical and predatory of Australian animals in captivity. We regret paying money at all and supporting their industry.

    Amazing Expirience
Kuranda koala park is good but even tho how it is like a zoo is even better but the only letdown is the time of my skyrail so i had to pat the koala not hold. 22nd Monday July 2024

    Great fun
I loved my visit to the Koala Gardens! There were so many animals and reptiles to see; I was lucky enough to get a koala cuddling photo with little Kiki which was so fun! The staff were so pleasant and spammed my phone with photos of myself and Kiki, as well as taking a professional photo for me. I loved being able to interact with the wallabies and hand feed them.

    Animal Exploitation
The animals are kept in very small enclosures that are not natural habitat conditions. The wombat, a nocturnal animal, had no natural burrows, just concrete and metal tubes and was trying to nap in a concrete tunnel facing the crowds. The koalas had sticks to sit on at shoulder high level close to the crowds, with a few leaf-bearing branches propped nearby to eat, but no actual trees to climb or forage in. All the animals looked depressed. We have been to several animal sanctuaries during our trip to Australia where the animals were provided large spaces with natural environments, and the primary aim was providing for the animals' welfare, the secondary aim to educate the public about the animals. The aim here is to cater to the tourist whim of holding a koala and profiting off of these animals. My whole family just felt depressed after visiting this unethical operation.

    Pleasant visit
The Kuranda koala Gardens while small and rather dated, had a fair range of Australian wildlife for visitors to enjoy. A highlight is the opportunity to have your photograph taken while cuddling a koala. It should be noted that the staff really respect the koalas, and ensure that they are not stressed or upset by being handled by visitors. Overall I would recommend this attraction in Kuranda, although it is rather pricey for what you get.

    Awesome Experience
This place exceeded my expectations! As an Australian tourist, I was’t super excited at the idea of seeing Koalas for $20 but we purchased the combo pass which included entry to this place. The Koala Gardens actually have heaps of native Australian animals including Kangaroos, Wallabies, Snakes, Wombats and Crocodiles. We were also able to feed the Wallabies which was really cool. I really enjoyed visiting and would highly recommend for anyone visit Kuranda.

Koalas, Wallabies, Butterflies and even a Black Swan
The Kuranda Wildlife Experience is all it is advertised to be. The setting is up in the tropical mountains above Cairns. We enjoyed the Koala Gardens, Bird World, and the Butterfly Sanctuary. In the Koala Gardens we were able to get up close to and pet Koalas, hand feed Wallabies, and watch a wide array of Australian animals both plentiful in the country and endangered. In the Butterfly Sanctuary we felt fully immersed in a world of color and grace. The docents available to explain the delicacies of butterflies as well as their strengths really enhanced the experience. But it was truly amazing to have the butterflies land on our shoulders, heads, and arms. Bird World felt very open-air. The variety, colors, and personalities of the birds was quite engaging. Many were very willing to climb onto a gently extended hand or even find themselves comfortably perched on a shoulder or even a head. The array of birds in seemingly natural habitats, including their ability to fly around freely, was truly a highlight. We highly recommend this experience.

    worst experience holding koala
this was a horrible experience I booked holding a koala at 1:30 in the lineup was they had 50 people in line for the same time It was totally disrespectful no value for peoples time But what was the saddest thing is that the koala bear seemed sad and the animal keepers were rude One Ashley yelled at me because a couple ahead of me asked me to use their camera to take a picture She was also rude to my daughter, because the koala bear wasn’t coming to her The people they are mean and just trying to make money off you I paid $40 to get my two dollars to hold a koala, and they made a big deal saying only one could hold them And they said hurry up, even though the bear was not coming to my daughter It was a rudest most insensitive, moneymaking experience I’ve ever been to I highly recommend do not go there But mostly, I felt so sorry for the koala bear

This truly was a worthwhile stopover during my time at Kuranda Village. The park is divided in to three sections (Birdworld, butterfly house and the Australian wildlife park) you can pay for admission for individual parks or get a good discount for paying for all three at the same time.

Expect a good welcome from the birds when you entering BirdWorld particularly when your carrying a paperbag full of bird treats. They'll sit on your shoulders, start chatting to you and enthuastically rummage through your bag of treats. The collection of birds is huge consisting of macaws, lorikeets, galahs and other birds that are both native and from afar.

By the time I the Australian wildlife section, all the animals were having a good snooze (I'm assuming this is due to it being midday and all). There was still plenty to see with plenty of kangaroos, wallabies and koalas.

After the wildlife park, I went to check out the butterfly house. The collection of butterflies was absolutely huge and there's even an opportunity to check out their breeding facilities.

The staff at the parks were fantastic, friendly and approachable. Definitely well worth checking out as part of your trip to Kuranda vIllage

I liked Birdworld better than Koala Gardens. Birds are wonderful, very active, with a lot of coordination and very diverse sounds. I loved it. . I bought tickets for both Birdworld and Koala Gardens at 2 p.m. but at that time the wombat and the koalas were asleep, (you also have to take into account the habits of the animals, the koalas usually sleep a lot). At 2:30 p.m. there was something like a session to meet the animals, feed them and pet them, but I couldn't stay because I had other plans. The kangaroos are very friendly. There are also some crocodiles and snakes. Both Zoos are small, compared to others I have visited, but they are beautiful.
Also note that the Skyrail back to Smithfield makes its final run at 3:15 p.m.

We went to both Birdworld and Koala Gardens. Was a little disappointed in Koala Gardens as you would expect it to be full of Koalas. Unfortunately its not, you do see around 7 Koalas in various exhibits which are very cute. There is a lot of other animals which makes it more than a Koala Garden and probably needs re-naming. They have wallabies, kangaroos, crocodiles, snakes, lizards and a few other animals.
There is more emphasis on getting your photo taken with a Koala, which I believe you really need to book as early as you can.
Even though I was a bit disappointed, this exhibit is still worth a visit.
We also went into Bird world, which was really fun. Having all the birds free to fly and poop on you. The macaws, cassowary, lorikeets, ducks, and so many more to see and let settle on your arm, head. Don't worry if you don't have seed for them, look around in the feeders and grab a handful. Probably much preferred the bird world to Koala garden as it stayed true to its name.
Highly recommended while your at Kuranda.

I honestly regret going here. All of the animals look so scared and unhappy. I was distressed by the whole experience. There was a wallaby with a joey in her pouch - some people weren't doing anything wrong trying to take a photo but she was clearly scared and had no where to hide so she hopped right into a window at full speed thinking she could escape. Then she just crouched near a tree trying to hide as best she could while people threw food at her.

There's snakes and lizards in glass tanks with people tapping and banging on them, all of the animals have no where to hide or get away from people. It was upsetting.

I wish I hadn't paid to support this venture.

Dear Simone. Based on your description, we are wondering if you are actually referring to Kuranda Koala Gardens? In any event our enclosure has a very large retreat area and a rest area, plus a secondary retreat area. Glass fronted enclosures are the best and most hygienic way of providing reptile displays and are industry standard. Please feel free to email our manager at kurandamanager@koalagardens.com to clarify anything you'd like to know. We have staff on hand all day. We have no record of you making any comments to our team? Always best to say something if anything is of concern to you.

This area is quite new by the looks. Its very well set up and will hopefully come up great in a few years. Very much setup for overseas tourists regarding koala holding and grabbing those memories photo's. Rest of the park has a few australian native animals which was good. We entered through the Birdworld entrance within the Heritage Markets.

We had such a great time! We were a bit weary after reading some reviews but we honestly had such a great time! It was really well taken care of & everything was accessible and set out so well. It’s a small animal sanctuary, don’t go in expecting a city zoo, it’s not… but it is great.

Great place. Not huge but doesn't need to be. Hugged a koala and fed some roos! Lots of different animals to see so I'd recommend a visit.
Birds and butterflies also worth a visit. Combine it with the train ride if you have time.

This was a cute setup but you definitely get through it quite quickly. It’s fairly decent value for money. Only criticism was I didn’t really see a lot of staff floating around keeping an eye on the tourist and making sure rules were being followed.

very enjoyable, seeing and holding a koala, and the other amazing wildlife here. One small criticism would be the macropod area, in my opinion too small for the wallabies to be able to hop around. Otherwise, all good, 3 hours well spent.

Really enjoyed both bird world and Koala Gardens! If you are holding a koala, get there at the beginning of the photo times. Otherwise the wait is long. We were first in line and loved having the opportunity. Also getting there early to feed the wallaby’s and kangaroos is a good idea before it gets to hot. The food is free and they fill up quickly. Make it your first stop in Karunda. They go and enjoy bird world. And purchase the food. It is well worth it. The birds flock to the people with the food bags. Such a neat experience to interact with the colorful birds!
