About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 882oscarm0 contributionsBusy and fun day in the rainforestTour was well planned and executed and lots of fun. Highlights were the scenic railway trip and butterfly gardens . Rainforestation park was also informative and interactive. It was a very pleasant day and tour operator was fantastic.Written 18 November 2024

- Xavier R0 contributionsKuranda day tripLong day but well schedule: train, butterfly, lunch, wild life, aborigen show, sky rail. I enjoyed the free time in between. Nice experience that I recommend.Written 22 October 2024
- Pat S0 contributionsKuranda and Skyrail - a good day outGood day out, however the koala centre next to the butterfly sanctuary has to be paid separately to enter. The included koala centre is at the rainforest station. The skyrail was amazing!Written 15 October 2024
- FarAway308750061510 contributionsKurandaWe did the sky rail up and the gold class train back down. Was a lovely day out, loved the aboriginal experience and the rainforest army duck tour. Had waitress service on the train back. Staff were lovely really showed that they love their job. Would recommend great day out.Written 13 October 2024
- Shannon S0 contributionsOkay tourIt was an okay but not very exciting & fun tour. Tour was on time, lunch was okay . The shows were a little bit boring. I think children may enjoy the tour more than adults.Written 20 September 2024
- julierP1584PA0 contributionsGreat views from the Skyrail, not much from the RailwayThe views from the Skyrail were phenomenal. The Railway views were hard to see unless you were directly by the window. Get the Diamond Skyrail which allows you to see the canopy through the floor and also to skip the lines that are very long for the regular Skyrail cars. In Kuranda we went to the Kuranda Koala Gardens and were able to get a photo holding a koala which was worth a trip to Australia in itself.Written 11 September 2024
- JDL4560 contributionsWell worth doingThe scenic railway, the duck tour of the forest, cable car back down the mountain, plus Aboriginal show, didgereedoo demo, and have a go at boomerang throwing. You fit a lot into the dayWritten 3 September 2024
- ENYW130 contributionsArmy Duck Tour is the highlight!High light is the Army Duck Tour, the guide Shauno is so funny, very informative, and saw some animals in a mini zoo, great scenery on cable car, and enjoy delicious lunch in a Thai food restaurant, just a bit long ride on train. Recommended!Written 28 August 2024
- flirtygerty20220 contributionsBeautiful viewsAlready reviewed the train part which was lovely…I’d been looking forward to the skyrail part as I’d booked the glass bottom gondola. We had the gondola to ourselves which was great but it stopped partway down with a walkway to view before getting in another gondola for the final journey. For this we ended up having to share with another person so I was annoyed when we got to the bottom and they asked if we wanted a photo…why would I want some unknown person in my pic? Had we been alone then yes I’d have gladly had one!Written 27 August 2024
- 649sandib0 contributionsAmazing day out. Highly recommend 10/10 again!A wonderful day out, so many experiences in one package. Everything was explained multiple times during the day. Didn’t have to worry about missing anything. The train ride up was inspired when you think of the work to build the track. Loved the Kuranda village, butterfly Sanctuary, Rainforest Station- the Army Duck, Aboriginal Dancing and the boomerang throwing, animal encounters, food!! And then to top it off the Skyrail back.Written 23 August 2024
- CarloHelmond0 contributionsA full day tour packed with some nice views and activitiesLet's start with saying this is a long day and many activities packed into it. If you are looking to make the most of your day, this is your way to go. If you want it at a slower paces, have a look at the other tours they provide. The day starts with an early morning pickup. The time depends where you are on the list, but it can be pretty early if you are one of the first. There won't be a guide with you all the time. So you have to listen and know where you have to be at what time. The driver of the buss will make that pretty clear to you. You will get dropped at the Freshwater train station for the train ride to Kuranda. Along the way you will stop for a view of the Barron falls. Along the way you have some great views and you are also able to view the train itself while it winds its way to Kuranda. When you arrive at Kuranda, it is a short walk to the butterfly sanctuary. You do have a little time to have a quick look at some shops along the way, but don't lose track of time. The butterfly sanctuary allows you to have a look at some nice butterflies and offers the opportunity for some nice pictures. Next the buss will take you to the lunch location for a warm buffet lunch. Water is included, other drinks are not and need to be purchased. After lunch you will embark in a WWII 'duck' to drive around the rainforest and enter the water as well. It is just a short trip, but the explanations of the ranger are excellent. Also included is a visit to the small theater for the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience. This includes music and dancing and gives some insight in the lives of the local people. This is followed by explanations of didgeridoo playing, spear throwing and boomerang throwing. At the last one you can have a go yourself, although it is limited to one try. The last part before returning to Cairns is a visit to the small zoo, with the typical Australian animals. Nice that it is included but it doesn't add too much. Along the way it is possible to have a picture taken with a koala (additional payment required). The bus will then take you back to the skyrail. Try to make sure you go as one of the first. Because of a ticket issue, we went last which prevented us from having time to walk around during one of the stops. We did manage to go out and see the Barron Falls again, but a ranger was making sure that we made it back on time to continue downwards towards Cairns where the bus took us back to the hotel. In all it was an action packed day. Would I do it again? Probably not as I would have liked to spend a little more time in Kuranda and visit the shops there. However it is a very good way to get a good feel about the area and the people that live here.Written 22 August 2024
- Johannes W0 contributionsYou can plan better yourselfBe prepared that some part of this tour is very touristic. Maybe not all but certainly the Rainforestation. Can’t recommend that part. I would go for a Skyrail-ticket, then walking in the Kuranda village and end with the train back. Much cheaper and more genuine.Written 20 August 2024

We travelled with Tropic wings tours on a whole day trip being picked up from Palm Cove.
The whole day was a great experience.
Our tour guide Lisa was friendly from the moment we stepped on the bus. She shared information about the area based on first hand knowledge. It was like having a conversation with an old friend. All passengers were treated like VIPs. Our comfort and welfare were foremost in her mind.
The trips to Wildlife Habitat, lunch at Masons swimming hole,Daintree river cruise and the Daintree rainforest guided tour were perfectly timed and professionally executed.
The road trip would have been harrowing and precarious but Lisa’s professional driving made us feel at ease.
The icing on the cake was morning tea, lunch and a delicious Daintree ice cream for afternoon tea. It’s a testament to Tropic Wings tours and Lisa that all passengers enjoyed delicious meals in a timely manner.
We highly recommend!😊

Our guide was Lisa and from the start she was friendly and enthusiastic about her job. As we travelled around to pick up other passengers she had little interesting stories of Cairns, and how it was built and some of the history of the city as well. Once we got to our destinations, she had a lot to pass on to us in knowledge about these areas. The ice cream shop it was a welcome stop, cooling and refreshing, a bonus after a lovely lunch! This girl is a boon to her company, friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and caring. will definitely do another trip with them again when we're in Cairns! (5 stars)

I thoroughly enjoyed this day trip. Although it was quite a long day, it was filled with many different things to see and do. Our guide, Lisa, was amazing and has such a broad knowledge of the local area she kept us fully informed all day. Cape Tribulation has some spectacular views and beautiful rainforest walks to enjoy. The wildlife habitat and boat trip on the Daintree we’re both enjoyable and encountered many amazing animals, and even saw a few crocodiles on the river cruise. Due to COVID and minimal bookings we had quite a small group on our tour which gave us exceptional and very personalised service. I strongly recommend Tropic Wings for this tour and encourage you to support our Qld tourism industry and help these guys to continue providing these wonderful tours.

Lisa was our tour guide for the cape tribulation tour. She was a fantastic driver, kept us safe, kept us well informed, had decades of local insight on the history of everywhere we drove, always ensured no one was left behind. We felt like we had VIP treatment the whole day, being able to jump queues and go exactly where we needed to be thanks to Lisa’s years of networking in the area. I’m so thankful we went on this tour. Aside from the beautiful sights seen and the fantastic memories made, Lisa made everything perfect for us to enjoy.

Lisa, our guide, was fantastic! A local to the area, she gave inside information about the ins-and-outs of life in such stunning settings which gave a whole new perspective of where we visited. Alexandra Lookout was a gorgeous view, and cape tribulation was a highlight. Overcast weather wasn't ideal, but it was still beautiful. Unfortunately, no cassowary, but to simply be walking through the rainforest was worth it all the same. Lunch options were varied to all tastes and delicious. The creek nearby in summer would be wonderful to cool off in. A stop at Dainteee Ice cream was a great way to break up the drive back, as was the crocodile cruise for something new again.
The only set back was the length; fatigue definitely set in. If 12+ hours (including bus ride and stops) isnt for you, select a shorter tour. To see so much in a day, it's unavoidable - but so very worth it for the experience.
A tour through mossman gorge, inclusive of indigenous tours and insights, is being trialled currently by the company. Would have loved to go on this too and will hopefully be back to do it one day soon.

We had a wonderful day mainly because of our excellent guide LISA. Soon after we were picked up from our Hotel we knew that we were in good hands. Lisa explained clearly how the day would run and interspersed this with a running commentary of the local sights. The day was professional y managed by Lisa who had a tight schedule, but despite this we never felt that we were cut short at any of the stops along the way.

This is a full day tour starting with a hotel pick up and return.
We have used tours all over the world and know the key to a successful tour is the tour guide!
LISA runs the Cape trib tours so well! She has the gift of knowing when to talk and when to be silent. Apart from this she is an excellent driver which is something you want when covering the area she does.
The day tour is full and well thought out. A good break for morning tea and lunch is a delight.
This was a birthday day for me and I had a complete and enjoyable experience.
Thanks Lisa you are a champ!!

TropicWings: We had an excellent trip into the rainforest with Ben, our guide. The whole experience was very professional. Ben was very knowledgeable and personable and gave a great deal of relevant information about the different places we passed through on the way, which gave us a good understanding about life and nature in this northern tropical part of Australia. He was also able to adapt the schedule and arrangements as the day went along to take account of traffic issues (e.g., a sugar cane spillage at a roundabout) and ferry schedules, and ensure that everything ran to plan. There was also an awareness that the area we were in was very remote and that safety and respect for nature was important. The rainforest and especially Daintree river embankment (where crocodiles, snakes, etc. are living wild) were amazing to experience, as was the more controlled but excellent wildlife habitat in Port Douglas. Overall, and excellent day.

Enjoyed the nature reserve we visited first just out from Port Douglas where we had a nice morning tea, the drive was very scenic along the coastal route, the rainforest walk was pleasant. Lastly we did a cruise up the Daintree river, where the guide was interesting and humourous, we were lucky enough to see a number of crocodiles. We stopped at a tropical ice cream shop where we were treated to a taster.
It is a very long day, over 12 hours.
The lunch stop, where lunch was included, was rather ordinary, we ordered fillet steak and it was not fillet it was round steak. Overall we were rushed having only 1/2 hour to eat
We pulled in briefly at a beach where it was almost impossible to get a park, once again rushed off and on. As I have mobility issues I didn't bother.
The bus, we were told was brand new, was made in China, the seats were extremely narrow and uncomfortable, the positioning of the seatbelt buckle meant it dug into your hip, a lot of the trip being bumpy, windy roads increased the discomfort, no leg room either so your legs were cramped up for hours.
The driver was pleasant, with interesting commentary along the way.
Lastly I think, as it is around 7.30pm when you get back to Cairns, that it would have been nice if we stopped somewhere, say McDonald's, to pick up something to eat as lunch was quite early.
Overall an okay day

Lisa and Adam were very welcoming, trying new things and seeking feedback so they can improve the tour experience. Highly recommend this for families with children. The kids were kept entertained with Lisa’s knowledge and history of the area, being a local for many years. Sit back and enjoy the experience.

Hi, my daughter and I are coming to the Daintree from Cairns on Sat 23/11/19. We will be staying at the Ferntree Lodge in Cape Trib and need to return to Cairns on Monday late arvo to catch our flight back to Sydney. Do you have two different tours we could take to fit in with our requirements please?
Thanks,
Donna
