About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jasontA2277KL0 contributionsAmazing full day on the ReefHaving been on several day trip to reefs in Queensland, I’d say this is the best hands down. The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable and here to be of assistance when needed. The trip over and back through in a few surprises as we watched 2 hump back whales jumping out of the water and entertaining us all for 15 minutes, on the way back we came across 4 more humpbacks heading south to Hervey Bay . I chose to stay on the boat and just go snorkeling . The boat is moored just off the reef allowing you to easily and safely swim across to the reef with ease. And if you’re not a comfortable swimmer the provide life jackets, noodles (flotation device) snorkeling equipment and flippers of every size imaginable, I also hired a wet suit as it was a bit chilly being August. As soon as your on the reef the abundance of fish is beyond belief, schools of fish you can swim with, amazing colours and variety, and turtles that are friendly that you can swim with. For anyone that is curious about doing this trip , my suggestion is do so , it’s a life fulfilling adventure that you won’t regret, a whole day of fun activities.Written 21 August 2024

- lorrainev3380 contributionsOutstanding reef experienceThis tour was amazing. The glass bottom boat showed a variety of coral, fish and turtles. Walking around the Island was interesting and the staff who conducted the commentary were full of information. The snorkeling was incredible. Just a few metres from the boat you could swim with turtles and an array of fish. On the way home we had some whales breach in front of us and the boat stopped for around 20 minutes so we could be delighted by their spectacular show. All of the staff were excellent.Written 9 July 2024
- A_TAdvisor_Member0 contributionsThe trip was ok at bestAll seemed rather disorganised and rushed. Started with inefficient check in: long, long queue. Commentary was inaudible - could not hear anything. Sitting upstairs we were not aware food had been served downstairs. Drinking water dispenser was often empty as was the hot water flask. The island tour was very rushed and did not allow time to take photos. Scuba diving was not offered/available. Only one very tiny platform available for entering sea for snorkelling which meant a long queue - this prevented the less able or extremely anxious to have the time they needed. Sadly, this spoiled what should have been a memorable experience / bucket list. Full marks for attention to health and safety. Crew were very friendly. Whilst we understand the need to watch tide times - we were not out for 9 hours.Written 4 January 2024
- Steven D0 contributionsExcellent MusgraveSmall group and intimate experience made for a memorable day. They had us swimming straight out from the back of the boat to coral, fish and turtles. The staff were attentive and welcoming. The food was good and plenty of it. The glass bottom boat was used to transport us to the island for a guided walk, on the way back to the main boat we travelled over coral and were educated on the size, colour and age of the coral. Staff were happy to answer questions about the reef. It was obvious the staff worked well together as a team which made the day very enjoyable.Written 21 November 2023
- nickiwi140 contributionsFun day to Lady MusgraveA great day out. The boat trip was a little longer than anticipated at 2 hours. Snorkeling was a hit with us all, the water was so clear and the marine life was amazing. The guide on the island talked to the history of how it was formed and was very informative of the bird life. We were lucky enough to see turtles and learn about the coral whilst on the glass bottom boat. A great experienceWritten 23 September 2023
- karragirl0 contributionsGreat tripLoved it all the trip out the reef and the walk. Highly recommend the staff on the boat and would do it again. We also had the perfect day on the waterWritten 18 March 2023

- Marc N0 contributionsPerfect day out on the reef with a great companyThe staff were nice and had a lot of knowledge of the area. The conditions on the day were perfect as well which helped. The reef was incredible some of the best snorkling and diving we have doneWritten 9 January 2023
- O118BAmartint0 contributionsAwesome daySuper friendly skipper Isaac and crew all made sure we had a fun and safe day. We enjoyed the snorkelling glass bottom boat and the island walk was stunning. Also spectacular view of 1770 departing and return on Orca. Really great value for a full day out with food and activities included.Written 15 December 2022
- ReeceJ280 contributionsGreatHad a great day, all of the staff were excellent but Barry was brilliant his knowledge about the ocean, reef and its inhabitants was outstanding along with how to protect it, and his boat driving was spot on! Thank you for a amazing trip!Written 23 November 2022
- Tourist357143961010 contributionsBeautiful place, don't miss itMy husband and I travelled to Lady Musgrave island on 9th October and we were lucky enough to book just after the school holidays and there was only about 45 passengers on board. The crew were awesome especially Barry the birthday boy and Sugar. We enjoyed the walk over the island with Sugar and the glass bottom boat with Barry. The water was so beautiful and clear and the weather divine. Snorkeling was brilliant, so many fish and turtles.Written 19 October 2022
- DroopDraws0 contributionsPerfect Day on the ReefThis was our second time doing this tour. There were only 45 passengers aboard which made the trip feel more relaxed than when the boat is full, obviously we had no complaints about how the tour on a full boat was run though. We again chose to snorkle for the whole day rather than do the island walk & glass bottom boat (sorry again Barry, maybe next time?) Whilst all the other passengers were doing the island visit we had the snorkel area to ourselves which was just perfect. All the crew were happy & friendly & made for a fun day. Food was plentiful as well as being fresh & tasty. We got to see Dolphins on the way out many many fish whilst snorkelling & just as we were about to go back a Turtle decided to stop off for a quick clean & then let us follow her around the cleaning station before disappearing into the Coral. All in all another perfect day spent with 1770 Reef.Written 15 October 2022
- K2862PDdanh0 contributionsBest day spent on the waterTotally awesome. Very professional, fun and super friendly tour. All the crew put in so much effort making a great day, we couldn't have been looked after better. From tea and coffee, to snorkel tips and melon slices on the way back. All so knowledgeable about the wildlife etc and genuinely care about the reef. Could not recommend highly enough! Thanks 1770 reef crew!Written 14 October 2022

I've been to Lady Musgrave 10 times over a 14 year period. Three with this operator and the rest with a now defunct company. The snorkeling area is different than the other company and while what you see is good, the abundance & variety of fish seem more limited than the other. Also, the onboard service (lunch/tea) is meager at best.
So why go with this operator...?
They're the only ones that sail from 1770 itself. If you're staying in town or Agnes Water you don't really have a choice unless you want to drive to Bundaberg (1.5 hours south) & catch a tour out of there.
If you've never been to this area, I'd recommend you stay in Bundaberg overnight and give the other guys a go. Bigger ship, bigger operation and judging from their website you get a buffet lunch as well - all for the same or similar price.
I choose to go with these guys as I stay at my favourite resort in OZ which happens to be in Agnes Water and don't relish the very early drive to Bundy.
Either way, you're going to have a good experience.

What a fantastic time my wife and I enjoyed at Lady Musgrave Island thanks to Skipper Isaac and his crew from 1770 Reef. Snorkelling up and close with a number of turtles was definitely a highlight. Jesse lead our walking tour of the island and shared it’s history and important facts about its biodiversity. Baz guided his glass bottom boat with such precision and passed on much of his knowledge about the reef’s coral and sea life. We had an absolute ball.

Amazing day! The staff and crew were fantastic throughout. Lady Musgrave is a phenomenal location for snorkelling and such an easy trip from 1770. The ride out was a bit bumpy, so recommend taking travel sickness tablets if you suffer from seasickness.

Its a must do when holidaying in 1770. The staff were amazing, Issac, Barry, Sugar, Will and im sorry a girls nane i have forgotten but very helpful. Some of the quests were sick and she was right there to help. Local knowledgeable staff, with the history of Lady Musgrove, Snorkelling and Swimming with Turtles, glass bottom boat, a day to remember for sure. Thankyou to all the team and those behind the scene, food was amazing and bookings a breeze. We will be back.
Note for fellow travellers:
If travelling in winter dress in layers, down to shorts when you get off at Musgrove.
You must go Snorkelling doesn't matter what time of year, we went today June 30 it was amazing, wetsuits are available.
It was a bit rough today and a few people were sick, sit up the back of the boat and take sea sick tablets, i recommend the natural ones as they dont make you sleepy. Highly recommend thankyou again. Nikki and Ash

We had a great day out to the island. The fact this business is family run and owned business really shows. The staff were genuinely interested in ensuring everyone had a good time and went the extra mile to make sure the experience was maximised for all. Scuba and snorkelling gear is of higher quality than similar tours we have done and made our snorkelling/scuba experience a pleasure. Food on board was plentiful, freshly made and delicious. Feel like this tour was minimum fuss, maximum experience. Highly recommend!

A great day out recommended to anyone in the area.
A long day- 2 hours out 2 hours back and about 4-5 hours at Lady Musgrave island
We were lucky only 74 on board not 130 :) and the ride in the open Ocean was a bit hard for a few people prone to sea sickness, but it didn’t stop anyone enjoying the day.
The crew were friendly and helpful the glass bottom boat was better than some others we were on recently and we could actually see the coral turtles fish -and stingray quite clearly
Snorkelling was superb.
Just do it !

They guys from 1770Reef were exceptional. Their customer service and commitment really went above and beyond in what was far from an ideal situation. A power cut meant that all of the food for the day was spoiled, they remained calm, kept us all informed and turned a drama in to an opportunity to shine! The trip out to Lady Musgrave island was amazing and made all the more special by the friendly and helpful crew onboard. The reef itself and the island were incredible and well worth the visit. I can highly recommend visiting with the team from 1770Reef!

The entire day was awesome. The departure time is dependant on tides and we were fortunate to leave early in the morning and to see the sun rise over the water. The tour offers the option of snorkelling plus a glass bottom boat ride and an island tour. You can also choose to stay on board and snorkel all day. This was the option we choose and it was amazing. I am very inexperienced in snorkelling and that was no problem. The staff are friendly and helpful and you can wear a life jacket or use another flotation device. The food was great and tea and biscuits were provided throughout the day, as well as morning tea, lunch and afternoon snacks and fruit. All equipment was provided or you can bring your own. The reef was so beautiful with many fish and lots of coral.

Thank you reef team !!! Y'all were great!
I got super sick on the way there and everyone was so warm and attentive! The staff is fun, knowledgeable and so kind ! Volunteering to take pictures of the costumers and being super friendly. They took their time to follow three different groups of whales so we can have a great show. It was an incredible adventure.

My sister & I had an amazing day!
The glass bottom boat transfer passed over at least 30 turtles 🐢
Our tour guide for the Lady Musgrave Island had a wealth of interesting facts & knowledge to tell us. The boat cruise & crew made our trip safe & enjoyable. Plenty of food & drinks! A lovely staff member even helped both of us snorkelling for the first time, showed us the ropes & stayed out with us till we felt comfortable on our own. What an adventure seeing the Barrier Reef! Many thanks for making our trip a memorable one! Well worth doing!
