- Trimma0 contributionsRiverfire No GoBris Riverfire on EYE SPY- BIG NO! Changed pickup wharf point 10days before, after we had booked accom months ahead within walking dist of their advertised point, registration to board disorganized, boat was late, ticketing system for drinks hopeless with one ticket point, eftpos wifi rarely worked for tickets, if you were on middle deck had to go back down to get drink tickets wait in line then back up, was supposed to moor "off Kangaroo Point next to bridge" ha- about 1 klm upstream and couldn't see the bridge, food was basic meat & chicken salad and one long line, but fresh & plenty of it, couldn't be bothered with the line again for dessert& coffee . The only saviour was a really good 5 piece band but on the small front deck which was taken up mostly by what appeared to be off duty staff & their mates. Misrepresented & poor organisation.Written 5 September 2023

This cruise was on my bucket list and chose to do it with a friend to help celebrate their milestone birthday. We turned up at the required time but as usual, we all had to wait for a latecomer. This is so unfair when everyone goes to a lot of trouble to be online and then made to wait for someone with poor organisational skills. The staff were friendly and professional.
The boat was comfortable with ample seating and lots of space to view the whales. We were lucky that our particular cruise was about 30% full. So no crowds. The weather was sunny but a 1 metre swell made the trip very uncomfortable and many in our party were quite seasick. They did have seasickness tablets available for a price.
The 'gourmet lunch boxes' were far from it. A small salad and a couple of bits of fruit isn't gourmet and was very inadequate. We were supposed to be given a complimentary beverage on board and this didn't happen. The drinks available were extremely overpriced. They even make you pay a premium for water. I would strongly recommend taking your own drinks and maybe something to eat as what they give you isn't a lunch. They even tried to sell us a raffle ticket for $5 and maybe win something from their shop.
The whale viewing was good and the whales made several appearances. Although, unless you can see the announcer, sometimes its difficult to know what direction he was talking about. Especially if you're inside the boat. Eg. "Theres two whales over there!" Where?!?
Overall, it was an ok day out. But not something I would do again. It was a bit overpriced for what you get.

Had a wonderful day out from Redcliffe jetty - 6th day of the season. The weather was perfect: warm and sunny and the water was calm. We saw 24 humpback whales - lots of tail slaps, fin slaps, breaching, belly rolls and blow holes. Some whales came close to the boat and at times were at every side of the boat! Shelly looked after us so well in the VIP lounge, and the prepacked lunchbox was delicious. Numbers were kept to a minimum on the vessel to ensure social distancing and there was hand sanitiser available. Fantastic day out!

If you want to go and be educated about humpback whales by a friendly and caring crew then this is the trip for you! We had an excellent day out with knowledgeable staff and a very informative and warm Captain Kerry. We had a push wheelchair as part of our party of 5 and they were very accommodating with Kerry even calling out as we disembarked to check that we’d been able to see the whales from the wheelchair table which was very appreciated! It showed she really had been trying to accommodate all her guests to the best of her ability. They had even called us on the morning of our trip to inform us that there was a 2 metre swell forecast for the open ocean and that if we preferred we could change to a calmer day. We were happy to proceed and it really wasn’t all that rough on the big boat but we really appreciated the heads up, I’m sure many other companies wouldn’t have that kind of care factor! We got close up with lots of whales and really got a sense of their size and gentle temperaments. 10/10 everyone must do this trip at least once in their lifetime but we recommend going more than once!

The whales put on a magnificent display, particularly when they paired up to synchronise their spectacular movements. The staff were professional and attentive throughout our cruise, with special thanks to the captain for both her ability to find the whales and her informative commentary. Lunch, handed out in a COVID-safe individual plastic boxes, was fresh, wholesome and delicious. The china plates and stainless steel cutlery supplied elevated it above a simple picnic meal. There were three generations in our group (our ages ranged from 16 to 73) and we all enjoyed every moment.

This cruise on Eye Spy boards at Redcliffe Jetty at 9 am, ready for a 10 am departure. Once underway, it cruises across Moreton Bay to Moreton Island before proceeding north to the open ocean. We were fortunate to have a perfect day to be on the water and the "Humpback Highway" was crowded - whales galore.
The boat was specifically designed for whale watching so vantage spots are not hard to find. Captain Kerry gave an excellent commentary and carefully positioned the boat to give passengers the best possible experience. Top marks to her.
It was magic to sit having lunch, along with a glass of wine and watch whales just outside the windows.

Wow what a day. This has to have been the best whale watching trip ever. The boat is beautifully kept and clean. Once we arrived off Cape Moreton it was one continuous stream of whales that did every trick in the book, so close to the boat. These whales were just not passing, they stopped and played around the boat. A mother with a calf stayed with the boat for 30 minutes. These beautiful animals gave us all an experience far greater than i ever thought was possible. When Kerry said it was time to return to Redcliffe, it was as the though the three whales that were around the boat knew and gave us a triple breach goodbye. Thank you Kerry and crew you looked after us wonderfully. Get this trip on your bucket list

Was told that the cruise starts at 0900 from Redcliffe Jetty so I rushed there to make it in time. Turns out they only let you on the boat at 0900 but the cruise doesn’t leave until approx. 0930. Would have been good to know!!!
The crew offer you a drink as soon as you are seated (VIP section) and also a seasickness tablet (at $1 a pop) just in case as, “You don’t want to turn a good day into a bad day” were the words from the crew.
I definitely wanted a good day so I took the tablet. Turns out that the tablet didn’t have the desired effect on myself & several other people on the cruise & I proceeded to vomit into a bag on the back deck for most of the trip. It may have been helpful to be told prior to getting on board to take a tablet so that had time to take effect. We really weren’t warned as to how bad the conditions would be. Needless to say that the trip was torture & all I wanted to be was back on dry land. We saw whales & dolphins during our long 5 hours at sea but I was too unwell to actually enjoy the experience & also my lunch that I couldn’t eat but was included in the price.
The crew were fantastic & looked after everyone that was feeling unwell but unfortunately it’s not something I’ll do again.

It was easy to book, the crew were all really nice and attentive, the yacht was clean and followed covid rules, however I didn't really enjoy the whale watching experience even though there was lots of whales the water was really choppy and I ended up being sea sick the whole time so did about 7-8 other people, so the experience was ruined by that, I've been whale watching before and have never been sea sick until now. As I was sick I was not able to eat the food that was offered with the ticket $135 ticket price. I'm sure this is a wonderful cruise and experience if it hadn't been so choppy and I hadn't spent the 3 hours being sick and wishing to be back on land. The staff did sell sea sickness tablets on board for $1 each I did buy one but threw it up so wasted a $1.

Very professional operation, well trained and enthusiastic staff. Our hostess Latesha was delightful and kept all entertained, never missing a beat in the choppy seas.
Now for the whales, they were everywhere, some 30-40 giants of the deep performed as if on queue. Breaching on several occasions close to the ship then waving farewell once the entertainment for them had concluded.

Brilliant experience. We saw a lot of whales. The whales were obviously very comfortable with the boat as they played around and kept diving under the boat. A mother whale felt safe as evidenced by her bringing her very young baby close to the boat; so beautiful to watch. Excellent service and commentary.

we are visitng in January, is this a good time to see whales? Also is there a pickup from Ovolo hotel Brisbane please?
Written 18 August 2022
hi, sadly january is not the whale watching season. it is july - october or so up the east coast of queensland.
If you are venturing north of brisbane, you can get wonderful turtle laying and turtle hatchlings if you like all things marine. you can do this near Bundaberg at mon repos, or you can treat yourself to heron island for some amazing snorkelling, diving and turtle season

Hi! I’m going to Brisbane on the first week of May.. is it a season for whale watching already? Any recommendation for a tour?
Written 7 March 2019
I'm afraid that you are outside of the whale watching season. Most tours run June-October which is when the whales migrate to the warm waters off the coast of Australia to give birth. You'll have a great time in Brisbane and the surrounding area though so don't fear!

Do locals who live on the Penensula encouraged to bring their guests or take the trip themselves ? I have never been and have never met a local who has. Just wondering as if you are a local and live in Arlie beach you do. I took my guests everywhere and I think you are missing a “on your doorstep” opportunity for growth if you don’t have some avenue to encourage locals to know your product, especially in these days or airB&B and local growth.
Is this ever going to be the case or do the local just say “well it looks good but never been”... (usually met with another option provided that a local (aka me) has knowledge/experience of)

I live on the Redcliffe Peninsula and have made the annual migration for the last 6 years in a row. Never been disappointed, each experience quite different, unique and amazing. Helps that its good value, well run by friendly people.

Written 1 June 2018
Hi Geoff. I have only just seen your question. I rang & made the booking over the phone as I wanted to make sure that we were booked on the same trip as our family, who had made their booking a few weeks earlier. I suggest you ring the Whale Watching company direct as they will have the correct answer to your question.
