The Murders & Misdemeanors gave a great overview of Bowling Green's shady past. Thanks to the tour guide, Sam, & his assistant for making the tour very enjoyable. Just wish it would have lasted a little longer.

12 inch to the foot model railroad
The event sponsor scheduled several side tours. One of them was to the Louisville & Nashville Rail Park. There, we got to tour the L & N Depot, with a working model rail road and toured onboard a 12 inch to the foot scale train. It was headed up by Engine 796, an E8A locomotive. It was followed by a post office mail car (complete with replica reptiles), dining and cooking cars, passenger cars, and an observation car. There was also an army medical car. Nice day at the park. “Red and black, friend of Jack. Red and yellow….”

We did the Real Housewives of Bowling Green tour and it was fabulous! This is the second unseen BG tour I’ve done and it didn’t disappoint!

    Trolley Ride Issue
The tour itself was very interesting but we wasted a good part of our morning when we could have been doing something else because the tickets we bought off of Tripadvisor had a 10am departure time but after waiting until almost 15 after, I called the tour company only to be told the tour didn't start until 11:15am... When the trolley arrived, the tour guide said she didn't have us on her list but after showing her our tickets she said, oh, it looks like Tripadvisor has our last year's hours still on the site. She honored our tickets but I think someone needs to fix this issue for future customers

TripAdvisor sold me something that doesn't exist and kept my money!!!!!!!
TripAdvisor ripped me off. I'm sure that the Bowling Green Historic City Trolley Tours would have been great, problem is that even though TripAdvisor sold me two tickets for $40, the Bowling Green Historic City Trolley Tours only runs over the summer months, not in February. I bought the tickets as a surprise for my wife's Birthday. Boy was she surprised when the man from the Chamber of Commerce, working at the Corvette Museum, told us the bad news. He said that the Bowling Green Historic City Trolley Tours has told TripAdvisor not to sell tickets during the winter, but evidently, they haven't taken notice. Worst part is that in spite of my attempts to reach TripAdvisor to get my money refunded, I have heard nothing at this time. Will definitely try to do the tour another time. Will definitely not use TripAdvisor again unless they go above and beyond to make it right. Thanks

GREAT experience for young and old - Air conditioned and Informative!
What a wonderful way to discover the history of Bowling Green, as well as viewing its newest attractions. AIR CONDITIONED trolley in excellent condition, knowledgeable and fun guide, superb driver. Our guests from out of state enjoyed the experience, and those of us from the area increased our knowledge of what this city had to offer - both in the present and in the past.

    A great place
I was a little apprehensive about going here, but really enjoyed it. Be aware, the railcars get warm in the summer, try to take a morning tour.

    Love the tour
If you like trains you will love this. Love walking through them and having a knowledgeable guide. The museum was excellent, had great information on the history at the time of the trains. Can't wait to go back when they are done redoing the medical train car used during WWII.

This was probably the best thing we did in KY. Loved learning about the train and touring the train cars. Very informative.

Visit this place but only take the tour
Bowling Green’s Historic Railpark and Train Museum is housed in the preserved and historic L & N Depot building built in 1925. It has plenty of artifacts, an impressive model train set up, and old railcars to make any train fan happy. What makes this museum special is the guided tour describing the history and the people and the segregation that went on it the railroad. In the galley, sleeper, and postal car, the guide pointed out the positions of the staff and the hard work done at each station. She explained that all porters were African American and sadly, George Pullman required them to be called George which the porters hated. Our guide explained how the porters would sleep on the floor of the dining car or on a stool between the cars so they can be called upon. Porters were on call at night to get a ladder for people on the top bunk that needed to go the bathroom. They would work 400 hours a month (of a 730 hour month) I would not have learned this without the guide

    Don't Pass By this Depot!
What an impressive depot for a small town like Bowling Green--the restoration for reuse as museum was very well planned. The tour of the train cars was fascinating, especially the mail car. The tour guide was excellent and was very thoughtful toward a young boy (2-3?) in our group in terms of pointing out things that might interest him and letting him push buttons as needed.

    Fun!
What a fantastic place! If you love trains and history, then this is your place! They have a cool museum, neat model train set up, rail yard, an actual Engine with historic rail cars to tour through (make sure you get a docent tour), and plenty more to see and do. Museum is handicap accessible-but I'm not so sure with the rail cars. You'll need about an hour and a half. Go have a great time!

If you interested in railroads, history, or just curious, you shouldn’t miss stopping in at the Railpark in Bowling Green.

The Louisville & Nashville train station has been beautifully restored and has an interesting history. The guided tour is well worth the investment of time and money, how many time do you get to walk around inside an E-7 locomotive, or see a fully restored business coach? All of the cars on their display train have been done down to the smallest detail.

The gift shop and HO scale train layout is a great way to end your tour. If you’re a model railroader you might even pick up some ideas.

I encourage you to stop in and check it out. You’ll be glad you did.

A delight.
You must find ways to avoid becoming what LBL used to claim "best kept secret' in the Bluegrass State.

Whoever designed the museum. Mega-Kudos. You've made this a wonderful site for history, trends, 20th century social norms/expectations beyond railroad in Kentucky.

Our tour guide was a sweet natured smiling young lady who fielded questions with poise and grace.

All in all, our tour was ... well, we're coming back and already letting others know where you are.
Thank you.

Our "tour guide" Donna gave such a wonderfully presented tour of the five or six train cars we went through and we really left there with a superb understanding of the history of the trains and the lives of those who worked the trains. The museum itself had so much that we were only able to finish the lower floor after our tour because we found everything we read and saw so interesting. Definitely worth a second visit for us in the future.

The tour of the train cars was great! Our guide knew everything and answered all of the questions. It was better than I expected it to be, having been on other trains before. This one really and truly gave you a feel for what it was like to travel by train back in the day. The museum exhibits were interesting as well, especially the old signs, posters, advertisements, etc. I wish there had been a book in the gift shop that was specifically about the L&N that maybe included some of the stories and photos seen on the tour. Maybe someone local could write one? I'd buy it! Anyway, everyone we encountered was very nice and helpful, and we're glad we stopped in.

The tour and museum are a great way to learn about the L&N. This railroad, while now defunct, was critical for the region 150+ years ago. The museum has exhibits set up to provide some regional railroad history. The guided tour walks you through a restored train from locomotive to the caboose. The locomotive has been converted to house exhibits about the L&N, but the rest of the cars were restored to their glory. My tour guide, Dustin, provided lots of interesting information about the day to day railroad life. I grew up around trains in AZ, TX, CO, OK, and AR yet still learned a good deal both about trains and the L&N.

Almost a '5' based on content, though you need to be a reader. Let down only by a scale RR layout that has very restricted viewing, failing to allow one to appreciate the true creativity that goes into designing one of these things; if the viewing area were reconfigured slightly it would warrant a full 5. The local history and RR history in general are well presented - though the emphasis on Pullman porter's sufferable work conditions tends to overlook the fact that these jobs were lifelines into the middle class at a time few such path were available to African Americans. Outdoor train car tour very much worth taking; the guide was quite knowledgeable. Very much a shame though that the cars are not open to explore at leisure - there' enough explanatory signage that one can linger far longer than a tour will allow. Still, given the time constraints our guide did his best to answer questions and illuminate what we saw. Budget at least 2 hours. Impressive adaptive reuse of a building probably once slated for demo. Good job.

If you like trains, you will really enjoy the tour of the cars. If you are ok with trains, you will still enjoy the car tour. The museum is ok; mostly about people and trains. There is also a model train set up that is enjoyable. The engine is a bit disappointing because it's been set up as an extension of the museum and not as an engine car. The other cars are very interesting and fun to tour. We really enjoyed our visit.

The exhibits were nicely restored and the tour guide is well informed. Down side is there is alot and I do mean alot of information to look at and read over and the tour seems rushed to fit in the 45 minute windows. It would be nice to have the time for children and train enthusiasts to actually have time to read and enter act with the informational details they installed in the train cars

Thank you very much for visiting the Historic RailPark and leaving us a review! Regarding the tour duration, due to shortage of staff at present we try to keep those tours at that length to make sure that scheduled tours for the day leave at the advertised times a quarter after the hour. But we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit, and we will take your feedback into account!

This place is super cool! The tour guide was extra knowledgeable about the train cars they have on the property that you can tour as well as historical facts as well. You get to actually get on several train cars that are very well preserved as well as the museum (self guided) that is located within the old train depot. Just a great place to visit and highly recommend!

We enjoy visiting museums and this is a very special gem! Take a stroll down memory lane at the Historic Railpark and Train Museum as you see the many artifacts, train cars, and even the building itself was an L&N depot station. The museum is self guided, but highly recommend taking a guided tour of the train cars. If you have a train enthusiast in your life, definitely recommend this stop on your next adventure!
