- lisacD5581GN0 contributionsGreat tourThis was a great tour. Ronnie gave us a lot of interesting information, presented in an entertaining way. Who knew brownies were invented in Chicago? This is a fantastic, fun introduction to the beauty of Graceland cemetery. Highly recommend, thanks Ronnie!Written 12 November 2024
- abigaill1230 contributionsFine Arts Building Tour ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Ronnie is an amazing and engaging tour guide, I had a wonderful time learning about the historical Fine Arts Building. I enjoy interior design, and he lead a tour that was fun and educational. And his love for Chicago comes through in his tour, which made it even more special. Would certainly recommend!Written 14 October 2024
- 111ruthk0 contributionsLearn about those at Graceland that shaped our Chicago!I enjoyed the walking tour of Graceland Cemetery led by Ronnie Frey. It was evident that Ronnie had both passion and knowledge of the subject. It was fascinating to learn the history of many of the wealthy Chicagoans who contributed to the formation of our beloved Chicago! I recommend this 90-minute tour of the markers and graves at the historic Graceland Cemetary!Written 22 September 2024
- amytA1390KK0 contributionsLovely stroll through the charming streets of Old TownA wonderful couple of hours walking Old Town and learning about the houses and folks that make it the charming neighborhood it is. Ronnie is an informative and charming guide who makes the history and architecture of Old Town come alive.Written 13 September 2024
- kathleenlV6009WH0 contributionsOld Town TourGreat time touring old town with our guide, MiMi. Her knowledge of the history of Chicago was amazing, which our granddaughter loved!! She exceeded our expectations by ensuring we had a great spot to watch the Blue Angels, which was not part of the itinerary but greatly appreciated by all. A+++Written 25 August 2024
- bobkA2668RH0 contributionsI learned a lot and enjoyed the morning.Ronnie is an entertaining and informative docent. This was an architectural tour made more meaningful because he put it all in an historical and social context. The growth of the city and the evolution of neighborhoods was an important factor in the architecture we saw on the tour, and Ronnie helped us to understand that. I took lots of pictures, even though trees and gardens obscured some of the architecture. I might go back in the winter when there are no leaves on the trees and use eAtlas to rewalk the tour route.Written 13 August 2024

My company (Brizo and Delta Chicago at the Merchandise Mart) has done two corporate events featuring private guided walking tours with Doorways of Chicago and Ronnie Frey. Our first was the Worker’s Cottage tour and most recently his Art Deco Madness tour. As someone who has lived in Chicago over 20 years, I’m amazed at all the little details and hidden gems that Ronnie reveals along these routes that I have walked a million times and never noticed before. We couldn’t have been more pleased and enjoyed every minute of these highly informative and entertaining journeys. I highly recommend that you experience Chicago through the eyes of Ronnie Frey and Doorways of Chicago, particularly as a private tour!

As someone who has an Art Deco telephone and has been known to dress as a flapper for the fun of it, this was very much my kind of tour. Ronnie has found some gorgeous buildings for us to examine in close proximity and it was great to see them all and to expand my knowledge of Art Deco, which was mostly limited to ‘I know what I like’. Ronnie has some great stories to tell too, particularly one about some statues that went missing, and I loved the way that, when told he couldn’t film inside a building, he left by perhaps not the most direct exit! Ronnie is an excellent guide who has obviously done some serious (but fun) exploring to put this tour together.

Loved this walking tour of the Loop's coolest Art Deco spots and learning all of the history behind some of these buildings. I would have loved to go inside all of them but now I have an excuse to go on weekdays when more are open to the public! Such fascinating facts about buildings I've seen and walked by a thousand times but now seeing them in a new light and noticing all of their beauty and exquisite detail. Thanks Ronnie!

Thanks for that nice review! It was so nice to have you along. Definitely go and check out the Board Of Trade and the Field Building lobbies if you never have. They are as spectacular as the ones we did get to see!

I never knew Chicago was so beautiful! Ronnie Frey of Doorways of Chicago gave a fabulous tour showing examples of Art Deco in several of the office buildings. He knew a wealth of information and pointed out so many details that would probably go unnoticed otherwise. He has a very engaging personality and easily captivated his audience. I’m looking forward to taking more tours with him!

This is the 3rd tour of different Chicago areas I have done with Ronnie Frey of Doorways of Chicago. He is always fun, knowledgeable, organized, and willing to share details. He keeps his tour participants to an ideal number, so it’s easy to hear and follow. His use of the Atlas ap allows participants to see more details about the buildings and architects on his tours.

What a truly delightful way to spend an afternoon in Chicago, rain or shine. Ronnie’s knowledge and passion for all things Chicago history, art, architecture and design made his tour engaging, fascinating and amusing. I’ve lived in Chicago for over twenty years. I’ve never given the neighborhood of Old Town too much thought. I left the tour with a deep appreciation of its beauty and history. I’m looking forward to walking around with Ronnie on more of his tours.
