About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 233maryannm0 contributionsFantastic! The Haunted Sarasota Trolley tour was absolutely delightful! The professional entertainment was unexpected and was theater quality! The local history was fascinating to learn. Some of my friends who are lifelong residents were intrigued by the new knowledge from the troupe of actors. Bravo! I'd also like to give a shout out to Elizabeth Pickett Gray for organizing this!Written 2 November 2024
- 832mayerk0 contributionsHighly recommendThe whole trip was fun and unexpected. The “ghost” visits were well done. Living in Sarasota I never knew alot of the things the tour showed us. It was great!Written 30 October 2024
- gailfgs0 contributionsDiscover Sarasota Tours: The Best Entertainment in Sarasota! My husband and I love the Haunted Sarasota tour. It is so entertaining and interesting. Lady Melody is the tour guide and shares the fascinating macabre haunted history of Sarasota. Additional actors join the trolley at various stops in Sarasota, and they provide fabulous entertainment with a great sense of humor. Lady Melody will occasionally break into song, and without a doubt, she is a professionally trained singer with a voice that would be right at home on Broadway. Kudos to Tammy Hauser, the founder of Discover Sarasota Tours. I cannot imagine the work and complexity of putting together these tours. She does it seamlessly. They are so much fun, you don't want the tour to end. We are looking forward to our next tour.Written 20 October 2024

My husband and I have been in Sarasota since 1981 and knew a lot about the different areas we traveled in for the Ghost tour, but we defiantly learned more things about our great town of Sarasota. And it was fun with our 3 tours guides on this tour. I would highly recommend this to others.Written 19 October 2024

I have lived in Sarasota for 17 years, but this tour showed me some of Sarasota I had never seen before and taught me many new things about the history of this area. I am looking forward to going on some of the other tours offered. There were two reasons I did not give this tour a 5. The bus's air condition did not work that day and while I realize that sometimes happens, it made the 90 minutes a bit warmer than we had expected. The other thing was we were not able to go St. Armand's circle due to lots of traffic. While I have been there many times, I had hoped to learn more about its history. And I felt badly for the majority of the people on the bus who were not local Sarasotans and missed a highlight of this city. Given that "in season" there is always lots of traffic on that bridge, it might be better to start the tour there earlier in the afternoon instead of leaving it at the end when there is always more traffic. Or, just eliminate if from this tour during season. With all that said, I highly recommend anyone taking this tour. Our guide, Jon MacDonald, was excellent. He shared so much during our 90 minutes and was enthusiastic the whole time. A very special part he shared was his own personal story about the Van Wezel. Sarasota has a lot to offer (locals or visitors) and this tour was a great way to show that.

Pat and Chris gave an excellent overview about Sarasota's history, neighborhoods, arts, dining, shopping, and other must do activities. They are funny and engaging. The tour van was great, especially with the heat and rain (It's summer in Florida). I enjoyed to hear about the history of Sarasota and their love for this wonderful city. Although I am living in the vicinity for a while and working in Sarasota for a couple of month now, I never really explored it. I am so glad I did this tour! For tourists of Sarasota, I would recommend to do this tour at the beginning of your visit, so you can dive into this "lively" city and their many activities. Thank you Pat and Chris

The travel guide by the name of Steve was wonderful to listen to. He was informative, humorous, and entertaining enough to keep our attention. The tour was an hour and a half and it was the perfect length due to "too much info" if it had gone any longer. The driver, Sigfried , did an outstanding job managing the heavy traffic, especially when he could discern the back up over the ringling bridge, and made a slight detour to avoid the traffic. I would do another tour again.

Terrific tour around Sarasota. Siggie and Steve gave a very fun and informative overview of the sites and locations. Steve, being a lifelong Sarasotan gave an insider’s perspective of the city with humor and knowledge only a local would know. An actor and comedian, he made a 1 1/2 hour tour seem way too short. Really wish we had enough time to take some of the other tours offered.

In honor of International Women's month, "Bertha Palmer", the Grand Dame of Sarasota/Venice, FL was our host for the 90 minute tour! What a joyful and educational tour it was. Kathryn Chesley was knowledgeable, personable, and in character throughout the tour. So fun! I highly recommend this tour for the true history buffs who want to better understand the history of the area.

Very enjoyable tour. We learned a lot of facts regarding Sarasota and saw some interesting sights. Jon Mac was our guide. He added some personal experiences in Sarasota which really enhanced our insight into the city. Our group would highly recommend this tour when visiting the area.

Steve was great. We moved to Sarasota 6 months ago. We had family coming to visit and wanted to show them the highlights of Sarasota. We had not had time to discover all the cool places on our own so we needed a tour for them and for ourselves. This tour hit the sweet spot. We learned about history, art, people, restaurants and museums, all interlaced with humor and personal stories. I will definitely take this tour again whenever we have visitors as well as recommending it to other locals.

To start with, please understand that when visiting a new city for the first time, I try to get a tour of the city to help sort through what I would like to further explore.
On this tour, City Sightseeing Tour, guide Jon MacDonald did an outstanding job. We visited and passed by various sights and landmarks in the historic downtown area, parks and a variety of different architectural styles. On this 90+ minute tour Jon did an excellent job of explaining the culture and history of the city and the landmarks. He explained in limited detail the huge role of Bertha Palmer (first person to winter in Sarasota), who purchased 80,000 acres of land that she developed into Sarasota, parks, ranches and preserves early in the history of the county. Also he explained how in the late 1800's, John Hamilton Gillespie, led the Florida Mortgage and Investment Company to prosperity in the Sarasota area, and creating the first golf course in the area. I loved the classic architecture of Splendida, built in 1925; and the Bidwell-Wood House. This is a Classical Revival style, wood-frame structure with a Georgian floor plan, whose builder was said to have plotted the shooting of another person in this house on Christmas eve 1881. It now stands near the park on its third site.
Based on the professionalism and knowledge of history and culture Jon exhibited on this tour, and the limited time I was able to spend in Sarasota on this trip, I am looking a flights into the local airport and spending more time, exploring the city and surrounding county, and again taking this tour. I strongly recommend checking into the different tours offered by Sarasota Tours!

I was impressed the minute I drove into the parking lot and learned I could leave my car there for free. Then I went inside to check in and was greeted by Ryan, who was over-the-top polite and helpful. My guide was Kathryn who did a terrific job explaining Sarasota's great history and along with contemporary sites, such as the Ringling Museum. Siggy did an awesome job navigating through the traffic.

Tour guide Steve and driver Chris gave us a marvelous overview of the lovely city of Sarasota, FL. The tour was both informative and fun, and featured Steve’s continuing stories about the history and key individuals that made Sarasota the really delightful community it is today. They also included a plethora of recommendations for restaurants and additional locations to visit after the tour.
Bonus: on our tour was a lifelong Sarasota resident who admitted even she learned several new things about her own home town!
If you are new to the city - as we were - or a lifelong resident who would like to learn more, we highly recommend grabbing a spot on one of these wonderful tours.

As the mask ordinance has been lifted, why are you STILL requiring it?? Let's be rational please!!
Written 3 May 2021
Why in the world do you want to challenge the rule? You know if someone thinks they got Covid from a person on this tour, they'd sue the company. Nobody likes to wear a mask, but most of us are fortunate and kind-hearted Americans and can see the company's point of view.
