AVOID! Happy Boat one way, Garbage Junk return, only saw the "Speed Ferry" with its engine in pieces
Feb. 2020
We'd read reviews but booked with Speedferry based on the schedule that suited our plans best. The departure was 45 minutes late but that seems par for the course. The frustrating bit was that instead of a speed boat we got the Happy Boat (seen here https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g325573-d18973289-Happy_Boat_Tour-Sihanoukville_Sihanoukville_Province.html) which took about 2.5 hours to cross, rather than 45 minutes. We were travelling with young kids and it made for a tiring afternoon.

We confirmed that it would be an actual speed boat for the return, as did our hotel. We arrived at the pier to find a junk loaded with garbage and no life jackets. I didn't want to board but was told this was only to take us to a different pier, given high winds. This was a flat-out lie. This boat took us back to Sihanoukville, arriving at the port rather than Serendipity Pier. We were driving back to Phnom Penh but folks transferring by bus or trying to catch a flight were in a tough spot.

It was only when we arrived back at the port that we saw the actual speed ferry boat, with it's engine disassembled. All reassurances that that would be our boat were blatant lies. We would have rebooked using another service had we been told the truth. I gather that none of the ferry services are ideal but I would strongly advise to pick another one, especially if you want <2 hours transit and a life jacket anywhere on board.

Speetboat from Koh Rong Sanloem
Mar. 2020 • Friends
The Speetboat was overloaded with passengers, some needed to stay (on a speedboat) and some needed to seat outside on the back! One of them was me...i got totaly wet, my bag got wet, everything else than pleasant! And I was not the only one! This is very bad service and for the one needed to stand also very dangerous!

Booked online
Feb. 2020
I booked and paid online. I had the booking added to my AppleWallet and that was enough to get us to Koh Rong, island-hop to Koh Rong Samleon and then return from Koh Rong Samleon.

In Sihanoukville we checked in at Yamine's on the pier and left our bags while we had a coffee. The ferry was overcrowded and they offloaded some people to another ferry. Not everyone got a seat and the luggage pile was massive yet the staff handled the baggage with great efficiency.

We left late and when we got to each of the stops the staff were very patient while people crowded to gather their luggage.

When we traveled from Koh Rong to Koh Rong Samleon 16 of us were on a dive boat. I asked and was told that the type of boat and stops changes as necessary.

Gets you there
Jan. 2020 • Solo
There are not many signs to let you know where to go and no one speaks much English but it works. You'll work it out. The boat was ok, the life jackets absolutely stunk. You'll need to book in early to get your return. Otherwise you'll be put on the next ferry. There's a couple of other boat options but this one was pretty good.

Pretty Scary
On the way to the islands they packed the boat dangerously full and we stood the whole way with nothing to hold on to and it was very choppy. On the way back the water was extra Choppy and it was heart in the mouth stuff as we full throttled all the way back, no seatbelts and it nearly capsized numerous times. A couple had a new born on board so some consideration should have been given, the drovers were just chatting away! . Also note that they drop you at other end of port where a bus brings you back to pier, don't book further transport as you might be late like we did and we missed a bus.

Island Time
Nov. 2019
Our outbound trip left Sihanoukville one hour late. Our return left on time but made two stops on the way to Sihanoukville which resulted in a two hour elapsed time. Speaking with other travellers our experience was not unusual. So be prepared , we were ,arranged our pick up in Sihanoukville accordingly.

Need a better organisation structure
Dec. 2019 • Couples
The ferry left Sihanoukville at 4.00 pm, lucky I arrived early, because I was originally booked on the 4.30pm boat that no longer existed. No communication from the company despite booking online. Rough crossing without any problems to Koh Rong village.

Second boat was a wooden fishing boat to Koh Sanloem, told at this pier I could not board unless I paid an extra 3 dollars due to price increases. So my original ticket was bought online two weeks ago for 5 dollars now the price was 8, no communication from Speedferry again.

Arrived at Koh Sanloem in very rough sea. We were dropped off at the furthest pier away from most of the bungalows. Many people were moaning that they had been told it stopped at the Island Cambodia ferry drop off point. So the only way to get to my Paradise Beech Bungalow was to take a small boat, the cost 5 dollars no concessions.

On my return thought about taking Island Cambodia instead, but boats could not dock due to rough weather. No small boats back to speedferry pier either so had to walk 2km along a difficult walking beach. Finally made it, but Speedferry Catarmaran could not dock either. Wooden boat took us around the other side of island to a calmer sea to pick up Catarmaran. The wooden boat made it, but dispite some people laughing I think all would agree it was not a pleasent experience. We linked up with the ferry and again endured a very rough sea. Some people were either sick or feeling sick.

In conclusion the weather conditions is not their fault, but they need to communicate better and be more open about ferry stop off points.

I suggest if you go to these islands be very flexible, otherwise you could miss your next connection.

I also warn you that the roads are choked with Construction traffic so expect a 7 hour coach journey from Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville. If you are taking Giant Ibis that I would recommend their office is now at the Speedferry pier not Steta Travel anymore.

Take another ferry company
Outbound ferry (15:00) was OK even if we arrived late and the boat from our resort had left the pier. Minor problem expected here.

Return trip started 45 minutes late. We contacted our taxi on shore to arrange for them to wait. But when we approached Sihanoukville we headed to a different port and pier (a very sketchy one). When moored we asked why the changed pier and they told us they had problem with boat. I got plenty experience of boats and boat engines - this one had no problems. They tell us that a bus will pick us up and there actually is a bus there! The driver say the trip will take 20 minutes to get to original pier. After one hour we are dropped of the bus a couple of hundred meters from the pier.

Don’t use this company. Get a private boat or any other company. At least you must plan for three more hours if you schedule for airport or private taxi/bus.
