About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Experience7246120 contributionsGood couple of hour tourVery informative tour guide , able to answer all of our questions. Good experience of trying to catch the sturgeon. They use 100% of the fish for sale or compost and filtering the river water. Was surprised of the clean smellWritten 17 August 2023
- 716keithl0 contributionsNot the best, and quite cruelWe visited as a couple in September. The booking process and welcome were good. The tour guide was new to the role and might have been nervous but the talks were dry difficult to understand. she used a portable PA system but failed to hold the mic at a consistent distance and also spoke extremely quickly so we missed much of the detail. We did ask her to slow down but she didn’t.The most useful bit of the tour was the short film shown, and explained, back in the shop at the end of the tour. The bit where three volunteers are invited to get into a pool to wrestle a male sturgeon out of the water and hold it aloft for photos we thought was just plain cruel. The caviar itself left us non plussed and my wife left hers. On reflection we thought that the whole trade is a bit like the Emperors new clothes in that people get excited about it because it’s the thing to do rather than really enjoying it, put a bit of salty sea weed in your mouth and you get the same effect. We can’t recommend the tour, it wasn’t for us but it takes all sorts.Written 8 September 2020

- 949martinem0 contributionsFabulous experience!!We decided at the very last moment to book the visit of the sturgeons farm Caviar de Neuvic without knowing what to expect and were delightfully surprised! We were welcomed by Célia and Jean and enjoyed every minute of the visit! Very informative and so much fun specially when I tried to catch a fish which was a real challenge for me!! Many thanks for that wonderful and unforgettable afternoon! Highly recommended as it's worth to discover the place for an affordable price!!Written 6 June 2020
- Jun_Oh0 contributionsNot to be missed! We were not sure what to expect but signed up for it and communication was very responsive and quick. Our tour guide was lovely, lots of questions from my husband but he was happy to answer them and took his time to show us around. My 9 year old was very excited to see the PRINCESS goats and also jumping into the pool to touch the sturgeons. Incredible experience! Caviar was yum with the sparking wine, it was a taster session but very satisfied!Written 20 October 2019
- BostonBostonGirl0 contributionsFantastic- not to missMy husband and son cannot stop raving about their wonderful experience at Caviar de Neuvic. The greeting and tour and experience (catching the fish) was fantastic. The caviar tasting was excellent- some of the best caviar they have ever tasted. This is definitely worth a detour to tour and taste at this special place. Thank you for such a memorable day! We cant wait to return!Written 31 May 2019
- fssutton10 contributionsDo itIf you are into this, do it. Very nice way to spend 1.5 to two hours. Make sure you arrange your visit in advance. Do not expect to just pitch up and take a tour. Very interesting info, Vann (sp) is a great guide with great English. Tasting was great and the sparkling wine was superb. Now trying to find some of it for sale.Written 27 October 2018

- Joyceandlaura0 contributionsGreat visit, very interesting and good funMy mum and I visited the sturgeons yesterday and were shown around by Yoann who was very knowledgeable and great fun, we found out all sorts about the diva fish!! We got the opportunity to go in the pool with the fish who are surprisingly big and can't swim backwards! It was a great way to spend 2 hours on our visit to the Dordogne. We tasted the local wine, sturgeon pate and of course the caviar. Thanks again Yoann we had a lovely day.Written 13 September 2018
- Judith G0 contributionsSturgeon extraordinaireThis was a group outing from a river cruise, and one of the best of our cruise. A pleasant drive from Bordeaux through such beautiful French countryside. We turned into the farm and were met by a charming young Frenchman and a huge and magnificent Pyrenees Sheep dog. I have never seen one before and am smitten with the breed, he was a perfect start. We donned blue shoe covers and walked through fields, past the farms horses, to the nearby river and along into the farm where there were long ponds with various size/ age sturgeon. We were given really good and interesting information in perfect English (with charming French accent). Then we were surrounded by a large herd of cute miniature goats, once a gift to the farm and now a large herd. We were given food to feed them which was fun. Then we walked past several ponds of fish, seeing the different stages, and we watched as some of our group donned waders and coats to enter a pond with gigantic Russian sturgeon and catch these large quite placid fish for us to see. After the tour we returned to their smart new tasting area and we were welcomed to taste sturgeon rillettes, caviar butter and caviar with lovely local sparkling wines. What a treat. We bought some of the produce to bring home. This was a really good value outing, definitely go to see it, it is worthwhile and very enjoyable. And go pat the magnificent Pyrenees sheep dog who guards the fish, goats, horses etc.Written 30 August 2018

- Joe90690 contributionsInteresting FarmInteresting to see the sturgeon an a chance to feed them. Also fed the goats that run wild on the estate. Great to watch the guys sort out the sturgeon and chuck them into the next tank. The tasting of the caviar with drink was very refreshing.Written 22 September 2017
- Felltiger0 contributionsA fantastic and informative experienceWe arrived as booked, only to find that the days had got muddled and we weren't expected for another 48 hours... No problems, swiftly and efficiently sorted and we set off with Johan, our guide. I can honestly say that I didn't know that there was so much involved in the production of Caviar. Really interesting and lots of historical and contemporary information. After a walk through the Goat field and giving them a late lunch, we were ready for the Sturgeon Wrestling! I'm sure it wasn't meant to be like that, but with three of us in the water and a net with a small hole in it (which soon got bigger) made for some very amusing moments- all captured on film. Then back to the Reception for some very good Fizz from the Alsace, Rilletes, and a spoonful of Caviar- stupendous. To sum up- a very well organised tour, not at all commercial and delivered with great enthusiasm and knowledge- thank you.Written 25 July 2017

We’d visited here about 5 years ago with French friends and decided it was time for a revisit. The domain has undergone a lot of work since our previous visit including the provision of solar panels. Our tour in English was led by Tanya, a charming and knowledgeable lady who adapted the tour perfectly to accommodate our two grandkids - aged 10 & 8 who both found the tour fascinating. After a lot of very interesting facts and explanations it was time to don the waders and get to grips with the sturgeon in one of the tanks. Tanya joined 3 of us in the tank and explained the best way to go about things - our 10 year old grandson was very pleased to be tall enough to join in! Then a walk back to the boutique and restaurant for the tasting and a glass of fizz. Fantastic value and a wonderful way to spend 2 hours in the French countryside learning about something new. Thank you Tanya, you gave us a wonderful family afternoon experience.
