I recommend this tour for anyone wanting to explore Arusha with the guidance of a knowledgeable local. The guide was very friendly and provided insightful information about all the sites we visited. Keep in mind that when you go to the Maasai Market and the public market, many vendors will try to sell you something persistently. Having a guide helps reduce this hassle. The Heritage Center was the highlight of the tour.

Best tour when you have limited time
Not knowing what to do with my full day in Arusha I decided to book this tour. Sana was an excellent driver guide and very passionate about his city and the sights and the vehicle was clean and comfortable, also has water for you if needed. The visit to the market was eye opening and full of colour and noise, I didn't mind at all. The stop at the Masai Market Curios and Crafts I could have done without as I hate saying no to people but there are lots to buy there and if you love to haggle then it might be your place, I am not a good haggler either. But the highlight was the visit to the Cultural Heritage Centre. I could have spent longer there and the guide in the centre, Derek, was helpful and very knowledgeable on the different arts and artists featured. The prices in the shop area are not negotiable but there is also no pressure to by but the art works in the centre are negotiable if your budget can stretch to them. I would highly recommend this tour and the operator.

        Sightseeing in Arush
My experience on this tour nothing short of extraordinary. Sam, the tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the beauty and culture of Arusha. The bustling markets, the natural serene, the art gallery - all revealed different facets of Arusha's rich tapestry. For me the art gallery was simple amazing. Its a must do if you find yourself in Arusha. The tour exceeded my expectations. The pick up and drop off from the hotel made the tour even more special and easy.

        Arusha is amazing!
I stayed with Samwell for several weeks. He took me to see everything! He is a great host who has his own car, so I was never stuck. The waterfall coffee tour is amazing, as well as the hot springs which are definitely worth seeing, it's an oasis in the middle of the planes between kilimanjaro and the tanzanite mines. Samwell would even help u arrange a climb up kilimanjaro if u like! He is a very safe and knowledgeable host! The place is comfortable and roomy. Arusha is a beautiful area with a lot to see! Come here if you come to Tanzania! I have been to kenya a lot, first time here, and I now prefer it! Massive Volcanos, tanzanite, rain forests, to grasslands , the land here is charmed, no wonder the oldest recorded human fossils are near here!

Amazing and authentic experience of Arusha Night Life
I had a really good experience and a lot of fun exploring Arusha's nightlife with Sam! It was definitely very useful to have him around showing us bars and clubs; I am sure I wouldn't have discovered those without him. Sam is from Arusha, so it was nice to hear his stories and get to know the city. Also this tour is planned individually and you can discuss all your ideas and wishes with Sam, which makes it a unique experience. The organization was easy and Sam is very flexible. Would definitely recommend! I did also really enjoy his city tour! Thank you Sam! :)

        Best time in Arusha
This is the best crew you can have in Arusha to enjoy the life in the city. Samwel is very generous, helpful and funny man. So he is the right one you want to have by your side while exploring city. He took us to a local bars, clubs, we went to the cinema, cultural heritage, karaoke, billiard, cocktails, beers, it was real fun. Also we went for a daytrip to Waterfalls Materuni and then to a coffee plantation, where we ware making coffee the traditional way. It was really awesome. If you choose this Gallivanters crew, you'll never regret. They are very friendly, opened and ready go anywhere! So as already said - you will not be dissapointed!

        Fun night out
Samwel and his friends are native to Arusha so they know every fun corner which we needed to explore. In one day we managed to see a movie, get delicious cocktails, go to a karaoke and after expressing our interest to visit more local places we got that as well. We had so much fun that night we asked Sam if he could show us a coffee plantation which we were very eager to visit. The next day he found a private mini bus just for us and took us to see the most beautiful place not so far from Arusha - Materuni whaterfall plus local coffee making place. We had the best time ever! Memmories for life. Samwel is a great guide, definatelly recommend.

        Amazing time
We had an amazing time during whole time. Our guide Sam was really friendly from the very begining. He took us to cinema for new Lion King movie, we were in many good bars, where we played biliard, had few beers and we enjoyed the whole time we were together. Thanks to him we also saw Materuni waterfall and we went for coffee tour. I highly recommend you to choose Sam.

        Biking Tour 🚵‍♀️
Wow! What an amazing bike tour outside of Arusha! Highly recommend to those with biking experience to adventure through the hills on a powerful mountain bike taking in the views as you ride! We ended in a waterfall that was breathtaking! Samwel was a great guide along the way! Also enjoyed local food and music - Samwel took us to a great place with Tanzanian music and dancing. Arusha has much to offer - it helps to have a knowledge guide to show you all the beauty! Highly recommend booking with Gallivanters Tour - you will not be disappointed!

        Amazing tour with amazing guide
Samwel is a wonderful host. He picked us up at the hostel and took us to a place called Cocoriko. It is a local bar with the best karaoke in Arusha. We had the most fun dancing to both local and world music and danced the night away! At the end of the night Samwel called a taxi and escorted us home back to the hostel. We felt so comfortable and had the best time! I would highly recommend Samwel if your looking to experience the best night life Arusha has to offer!

Sam organized an excellent day trip for us. The drive from Arusha was about 3 hours, but luckily Sam has a wealth of knowledge to share about this area and is an excellent tour guide overall. The walk to the falls took ~45 minutes and was well worth the effort for the views! On our way back , we got to try the local banana beer/wine too!

And at the end of our tour, we learned about the process of making coffee "in the local way." We all participated and it was a lot of fun! The end result was a truly exceptional cup of coffee!

Would highly recommend this tour for those with a full day of availability in Arusha!

Sam is an excellent tour guide, but he treats everyone like friends, so it truly is a special experience regardless of which one you choose! The materuni Waterfalls is a few hours from Arusha, but there is beautiful scenery and Sam fills the time with lots of local facts and history. The hike is beautiful! Be sure to wear good hiking shoes as it is a bit hilly, definitely not just a walk in the woods. The waterfall itself is beautiful and refreshing! If you hike in your swimsuit you can go for a dip!The coffee tour at the end was a real treat learning how coffee is incorporated into their culture. I would highly recommend this tour!

If you are planning to spend time in Northern Tanzania you should absolutely add a stop in Materuni to your plans! Materuni is a beautiful village on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, and this experience features an amazing hike and the best coffee I’ve had in my life. Samwel is the best guide around, and I highly recommend booking with him! He has a fantastic AirBnB in Arusha (Sana Africa House) with one of the best views of Mt Meru in town. I stayed with him for 4 weeks while working at a hospital just outside of town. He was a wonderful, caring host who helped me navigate the area and ensured that I had a rich cultural experience while solo traveling and working. Samwel was easy to contact, reliable, and very fun to spend time with. Materuni waterfall is well worth the hike, which winds through the village (with a few stops to enjoy avocados, passion fruit, bananas, and village-brewed banana beer) before connecting to a trail through the rainforest and hillside farms. When the sky is clear, the trail features a great viewpoint for Mt Kilimanjaro. After the hike, you get to join Justin, a local coffee farmer, at his farm to learn about coffee making and enjoy the amazing coffee as well as a great local lunch. As a bonus, Justin has a very friendly and adventurous dog who joined us on our trip out to the waterfall. I ended up going on this tour twice with Samwel and both days were among the highlights of my time in Tanzania!

Samwel picked us up on time at 7.00h at our apartment. Even the trip to Materuni by off-road vehicle was an experience. On the short hike Samwel explained the plants along the way. The waterfall was impressive. At the coffee farm we were shown the steps of production from bean to ground coffee. We were able to roast and prepare our own coffee. Tasted very good, just like the subsequent lunch. Samuel was a competent guide, helpful and always in good spirits. Thank you for this lovely day.

I contacted Samwel a day before my arrival and he was very enthusiastic about arranging Materuni waterfalls trip even for a solo traveller! He also helped with local SIM card and offered treats during the tour (locally grown fruits). You can also book his nice accommodation - just check his website, Arusha will become your home!
