Kilimanjaro Lemosho route with Kili Brothers
Short version: We had a good experience and recommend them. We got a good price and are very happy with the service and efficiency of George who helped us arrange it.

Long version: I had contacted George a few weeks before we arrived to tanzania and we haggled a bit about the price and came to a good agreement. When we finally booked everything worked out beautifully. We got picked up from the airport, went to their office to pick up the gear we needed. Met our main guide Eli and they drove us to the hotel where we got a good and long briefing about the 7 day lemosho route we were taking. After the briefing they checked out our clothes and all our gear to make sure we had what we needed for the mountain. Then the day after we started. It was only me and my fiance on the trip. We had 2 guides, Eli and Sanka, one chef William, one server/porter Ima and 8 porters.

The food was good and plentiful! For dinner soup (william really knows his soupd, delicious), maincourse and often fruit for dessert. We got tea and gingertea everyday. We could choose hot chocolate in the morning if we wanted to.

We had hot water for washing every day morning and when we arrived to camp except for in basecamp.

The tent was very roomy. Unfortunately they had chosen a dry season tent for us and the rainseason was just starting so the outer tent leaked and sometimes even the inner tent which was not so good. The tent wasn't put up optimally one of the days where it leaked in. I told the guides who made sure that the tent was put up better the following days. Also the waterproof bags that we had our sleepingbags and sleeping mats in was not really waterproof. One of the evenings they were moist. Not enought to make it unusable but enough for me to get annoyed.

At two times the tents was placed so that the rain risked to flow under the tent, but Ima and one of the porters Pasoa went out in the cold rain digging with their hands to make a little canal for the water to go to instead.

The guides were helpful and listened to our opinions about tempo and so forth. During summit night our summitporter turned back after just 1 hour and didn't come back. Very odd. But our guides took the emergency equipment instead and Sanka even took my daybag when it was getting to tough for me to carry it. And yes, it was tough walking 6 hours in the dark, up up up!

How Eli did it I do not know but we arrived to Uhuru peak 3 minutes before sunrise! Perfect timing. We were the 2nd group to the top, so the first group was too early to the sunrise on the peak and the ones after us came too late. When we arrived down again, the porters treated us like king & queen. Put out our chairs, dusted us off and even took of my gaiters and shoes! Service! Almost felt embarrassed! After the 7 days trek we all gathered and had a beer/soda together. It was very nice. Ofcours the tipping part is always very awkward for us scandinavians since it's not really a part of our culture but George made it to a less awkward experience.

George promised to make sure that the right tent for the season is picked and that the sleepingbags and sleepingmats really are in waterproof bags in the future and he took the feedback very professionally!

Conclusion! A great experience with Kilimanjaro brothers!

Thanks for talking your time a write a feedback, we really appreciate for that. We good price on Kilimanjaro climb and our price are more competitive and reasonable to allow anybody with dream to trek Kilimanjaro with great culture experience. Our cook are well trained and we provide the best food in Kilimanjaro. All are are combination of traditional fresh food and western style. We cater for Gluten free and vegetarian requirements. After 10 years leading climbs and treks on Kilimanjaro, we’ve listened to guest feedback, pursued our passion for innovation and found the ultimate combination of form and functionality for our camping equipment. It’s a unique set up that’s both practical and attractive, making our camp sites easily recognizable anywhere on the mountain. Our camping equipment is a combination of high-end mountain gear from reputable suppliers and equipment we’ve designed and made ourselves to suit the terrain. For example, we found that most traditional round dining tents didn’t fit the long, narrow tent sites so we now have our own custom-built dining tents built. We have a full-time team of tent-tailors and metal craftsmen at our base facility in Kilimanjaro. Designed for comfort Our closed-cell foam pads cover the entire sleeping tent footprint and we’re the only company that uses them. It’s just one of the special touches our guests appreciate because they can always get a good night’s sleep, even in cold, wet weather. We also offer a number of optional ‘comfort’ upgrades including: Large walk-in sleeping tents with framed beds; Hot-showers; Heaters in the dining tent; And even a heated lounge tent with comfy inflatable chairs! Camping gear supplied on climbs and treks are Mountain Hardwear Trango 3.1 Sleeping Tents – We use three-person tents as a double or single tent Custom-made ground sheets – Separate ground sheets cover both vestibules in our sleeping tents to keep the sleeping area free of water, mud and dust and allow clean, dry gear storage of gear. Full tent floor cover closed cell sleeping mats – Our closed cell foam sleeping mats cover the entire floor of the sleeping tent so our climbers and all their gear stays dry Weatherproof dining tents – Our large, custom-designed and made, weatherproof dining tents have fly sheets, multiple doors (including a custom-designed hinged tent door, windows, ventilation, and full floors with storm skirts and ropes. Solar LED lights – We use high-powered solar LED lights in the dining tent so our guests can enjoy headlamp-free meals! Each tent has a number of powerful LED lights. Aluminium dining tables – Covered with Maasai-style tablecloths. Large aluminium dining chairs – With backs and armrests. (or smaller backed chairs, depending on the service level) Large private toilet tents with portable flush toilets (depending on the service level), These are erected on a stable frame and each toilet has hand-sanitizer available in a handy push-top dispenser. For groups of seven or more climbers, two toilet tents are provided. Pett toilets – In campsites without toilet facilities such as the Crater Camp, we use a special toilet made by Phillips Environmental which uses an absorbent powder and allows us to carry all solid human waste out of the campsite. This enables us to adhere strictly to the ‘Leave No Trace’ outdoor ethics. Wash stands – For washing hands before meals. Fresh hand-towels – Provided for each climber, before each meal Wash basins – Provided for each trekker on reaching camp. Hot water bottles – To keep you toasty warm in your sleeping bag. Safe drinking water – We purify all guest and staff drinking water using PUR packets. Optional extras In addition to the camping gear listed above, which are taken on all climbs and treks, many camping extras are available on request for an additional charge. High-quality rental gear – Including trekking clothing, synthetic sleeping bags, Gore-Tex outerwear, warm layers, trekking poles and just about anything else you might need. Luxury sleeping tents – ‘Walk in’ tents with aluminium frame beds and soft foam mattresses allowing trekkers to sleep off the ground. The tent is lit by powerful solar LED lights and features four entrances, ventilation ports, a fly sheet, storm skirt, storm ropes and closed cell mats to keep bags clean and dry. Hot showers – Set up in a spacious rectangular-framed tent with a 15-liter solar shower bag perched on top. Includes a shower mat, plenty of clothes hooks and bath towels. Dining tent heater – Propane space heaters to warm the dining tent before and during evening meals. Heated lounge tent – For the ultimate in comfort while climbing Africa’s tallest mountain book our heated lounge tent with solar lights, inflatable furniture and a large table for socialising or playing card games. Solar charging kit – Including a solar panel, 12V DC/7 AH /20-hour battery and USB sockets for charging up to two USB devices simultaneously while in camp. Ideal for charging cell phones, satellite phones, iPods, tablets and other small devices. Satellite wifi– Thuraya’s satellite wifi system in camp, allowing you to post updates to your friends and family back home about your adventure. Want the best guides and safest climbing experience but don’t mind roughing it a little? We also offer Lite and Hut treks with less camping gear for those who don’t need all the frills. It’s a less expensive option but you still enjoy having the best guides, great food and rigorous safety standards. Please contact us now for more details or prices. Reviewing the dry season shelter options was a big tent. Big size is a key word here. Our previous tent was 48 square feet, while the new that dry season tent is a roomy 61 square feet. That’s a 27% increase in space – the difference between a 3-person and a 4-person setup. Yet we’re continuing to assign just two trekkers per shelter – no rubbing elbows with other trekkers while you’re resting for a summit bid! Greater space, stellar packing efficiency and a glowing track record will make this shelter and adjustable zip to control moisture, be sure to use to using zip up and down inside Thanks for tipping our crew, we appreciate, its sustainable and ethical considerations, a deep appreciation for the It was important that we find and we would happy to welcome you again

Life changing adventure with Kili Brothers!
Feb. 2020
JAMBO!
If you're looking for the best guide company for your Kili climb or safari, you've found them. My husband and I did the 7 day Lemosho trek, 4 day safari, Maasai tour and coffee/waterfall tour with Kilimanjaro Brothers. So, we'll start at the beginning! Before we booked we read a ton of reviews and emailed a couple different guide companies, George was the most responsive and laid out the best itinerary. We trusted him from the start as he started as a porter himself and built his own local business. We were picked up from the airport by Kibo, with the warmest smile and most welcoming attitude. The next morning when we went to pay the balance of our trip, our cards didn't work, we called the bank and got it sorted and when I apologized for the delay he said "Hakuna Matata!" with the biggest smile!

Kili Climb:
Before we left our hotel for the climb, our guides Karimu and Joseph came to our room to check our gear. They double checked to make sure we were prepared for all elements. We rented 1 sleeping bag that was high quality and warm. We felt very safe with Karimu and Joseph, they were highly knowledgeable, fun, and attentive to us. Edward was our chef, his food was excellent. August was our waiter and he took great care of us. We loved when he brought coffee to our tent in the morning and he would boil water to put in our Nalgene bottles at night to keep us extra warm in our sleeping bags. We summited a day early because our group was feeling healthy and strong. One of the porters, Stanley, joined us on the summit day and was an awesome addition. We had the best experience on the mountain with Kilimanjaro Brothers!

Safari:
We did 4 days of Safari in Tanagarie, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti. Sharif was our guide and we couldn't have asked for a better one! He was so nice and knowledgeable about all the animals. He also has an amazing eye for finding animals we would have never seen. We saw Africa's Big 5 animals in 1 day! Tortillas camp was our favorite place to stay.

If you want to book with a company where you feel like family then book with Kili Brothers. George met us before and after the hike and joined us for a dinner. We watched Karimu and Joseph pick up garbage on the mountain to throw away in trash cans. Sharif would collect uneaten lunch items and package them together to hand out to hungry children on our drives out of the parks. Kibo joined us on the Massai and coffee tour and made us feel like we were just hanging out with our friends rather than being on a "tour". Not only did they all do their jobs exceptionally well but they are good caring people!

A few things to consider:
1. Most places like and will accept American Dollars, but bring a few Tanzanian Shilling for the smaller vendors and places you may stop along the way. And bring smaller bills for dividing up tips.
2. Pack extra hiking gear that's taking up closet space for your porters! Coats, fleece, socks, hats, rain gear, gloves, boots, literally anything! You will understand when you see them, they are incredible men and need your donations.
3. Tip the porters generously! Your tip is their income and they more than earn it.
4. Drink at least 3 liters of water a day on the climb, and bring Nuun flavor tablets for no other reason than you'll want to drink more if it tastes good.
5. Bring Diamox! 1 tablet with breakfast and 1 tablet with lunch (125mg).
6. Don't take your malaria medication on the mountain, it's not necessary and it messes with your stomach.
7. Eat when you're not hungry, you need the energy and the food is awesome.
8. Sunscreen is your friend, even if you tan well, the sun is brutal even on a overcast day.
9. Go with the flow and appreciate everything!

We came, We saw, We conquered. Kilimanjaro Feb 2020
Feb. 2020
When I was looking to book my trek to climb mount Kilimanjaro, I was unsure about all the companies who tell you they are the best to take you up a mountain in a foreign country. I researched many on the www and was left with a few choices. I went with Kilimanjaro brothers and I was not dissappointed. Their owner George is a local man who has risen from porter to owning a company that makes your stay in Tanzania go as easy as saying Pole Pole, His Staff are all good at what they do and very professional.
Medicine...Diamox 125g tablets 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon. My doctor prescribed me 250g tablets, I had to split my tablets.
Malaria tablets, no need to take them on the mountain,, bring paracetomol tablets just incase you feel a little unwell.
Sunblock a must, even if you tan well, the equatorial sun really does burn , Sun hat a must,
Water... 3 litres a day while walking, camelbak good and if not enough carry water in hard shelled bottles, NO SOFT PLASTIC BOTTLES ALLOWED.
Also bring tablets to flavour water as you will be glad as boiled water does not really taste great.
They boil it every night so you have drinking water the following day.
Guides...Karrimor & Joseph. friendly, polite, knowledgeable and professional.
Kitchen staff...Serves up the most wonderful food. I dont know how but you will be glad they do.
Porters...Lions of men, Polite, friendly and so necessary to a successful summit.
Money, Dollars ( small notes 1, 5, 10, 20) are widely accepted but also have someTanzanian money as going into little shops I found is easier.
You sort out all tips and payment of guides, porters, staff when you return so no need to take all your money up the mountain. but have a few local notes or dollars just incase you see something that you fancy buying en route to and from hotel to start of trek.
Your kit will be examined before you start your trek and if you need stuff you can hire it.
I hope this helps you decide on making up your mind as to which company you choose to go with but I would recommend Kilimanjaro Brothers.
as for the view???? well go climb it and look for yourself.

Thanks ever so much for your support. I started to work as a Kilimanjaro Free Rance Porter, wait a daily a job at the gate, later the best guide all Tanzania and now a Licensed Class Tour Operators. It was not easy to for our local tour company on competition with overseas company and middle men but with your powerful review and hand support now we have demonstration company that treat fares ourselves. Lather than waiting a donation,we organize and guide ourselves Kilimanjaro trips that makes us to us to become stable and secure. The profit we obtain on trips we we use to pay ourselves training required, office facilities, camping and insurance. When you book to us we see you not only climbing the mountain but also your doing a charity and let our children to go school. Once again, thank a million times for your support.

Amazing Adventure
Jan. 2020
It is hard to desribe our feelings in couple sentences. It was a life journey. There were four of us and we decided on private tour with Kilimanjaro Brothers. It was a good choice. Just couple hours after our pickup from airport, we had meeting on which we were informed about all details about our trip. Food was incredible, staff professional and helpful. From day 1 we had healthchecks and briefings about next days. We want to thank our great guides who made our dreams real, Joseph and Abel - hope to see you again.

The most amazing food
Sep. 2019
At the end of September, 2019 my friend and I did the 7 day Lemosho trek with Kilimanjaro Brothers. It was just the two of us in our group, and we had 9 porters, one cook, and two guides. My friend is vegetarian so we asked for vegetarian meals for our trek and I must say the food was amazing. Hot cucumber soup, zucchini soup, stew, lentils and beans, and popcorn. We felt safe during the entire trek.

The tipping situation at the end was a bit awkward, and I'm not sure if having the tip baked into the full price would have been better or what alternative method of tipping would have been smoother.

Thanks for take your time and write back to us. We provide fresh fruits and food on the Kilimanjaro climb with a lot of carbohydrates, food diet for vegans and vegetarians as well as special food for client with food allergy, Halal and Kosher are offered. Breakfast Breakfast is tea, coffee, porridge, sausages, bread, toast, eggs and fruit. Longer hiking days will a picnic lunch along the route. Lunch and Dinner A typical lunch is cheese, bread, crackers, peanut butter and jam or honey, mustard, potatoes, chips or Chevda, canned fish, fruit, peanuts, cashews, or cookies. On shorter hiking days we will have lunch in camp with hot drinks, soup, cheese, sandwiches, vegetable sticks, and cookies. Dinner is served buffet style inside the mess tent, beginning with soup and bread or crackers, and followed by a main course of rice with stew or curry, or pasta with sauce, cooked vegetables, or salad and potatoes. Desert and hot drinks follow the main course. Tipping Recommendations While we realize that tipping may not be a common practice in all countries and cultures, it does play a part in the financial compensation for a Kilimanjaro climb. Porter’s union companies pay promotes that a fair minimum porter’s tip per day is US $10.00. Many people recognize the hard work that the porters do to support the climb. We suggest that climbers consider paying a tip amount in the range of US $6 to $10 per day depending on the level of service provided as well as the number of people in a group. It is ideal to tip porters directly or to announce the amount that you would like them to receive. We encourage climbers to consider a minimum tip amount that would supplement the salary Tipping is still based on the crew meeting your expectations. . Traditional, there is no enforcement tip payment, as tip is something extra from you appreciation and thus why we give you a recommendation. Tipping Procedures We share tipping guidelines and a transparent and distribution procedure before you begin your climb. We inform also the number of crew that will be assisting you during your climb at your Climber Briefing. We introduce your crew and we encourage you to meet your crew at your everyday at campsite to ensure you have the number of crew promised. You can write a list with each crew person’s name and refer to this list at the end of the climb when you distribute tips. It is ideal to have a tipping ceremony after climb. We give envelope and you can be placed in individual envelopes with the climbers giving them directly to each crew person. We highly recommend tipping each crew person directly to ensure that the full amount of tip is received by the crew member. If you choose to give the full tip to the guide, please announce the total amount in front of the entire crew and indicate the tip amount that each porter will receive. The guide should repeat this in English and Swahili so that all can understand.

Kili summit, Lemosho Route 7-days
Jul. 2019
Kilimanjaro Brothers are an excellent company and they put together and excellent experience for us. Our guide (Joseph), local host (MD) and porters were all wonderful. They gave us a fantastic experience and a successful summit. They were patient and accommodated all our needs including diet, pace and equipment. Meals were great and we had a team just for our group of 4. Joseph quickly figured out what we needed and made sure we made it to the top and back down with a smile on his face the entire time. A truly enjoyable experience.

Ask for the tall tents! We did and it was much easier to manage than the short ones. Bring your cash for the tips at the end. Buy your shirts at Kajiji village after the climb. Don't buy your souvenirs from the street hawkers, go to the curio shops in town instead. And book with Kili Brothers!

Phenomenal in every way
Kilimanjaro brothers was our agent for a hike up Mt Kilimanjaro followed by 4 day safari thru the national parks of Tanzania. They met and in most cases exceeded our expectations in every way!

In preparing for the hike they made sure to stay in communication asking all pertinent information including health as Kili is not easy. On site their transfers were perfect, their guides Abel and Joseph were highly skilled while being welcoming and friendly. The team of porters never missed a beat over the 7 day trip.

Following the hike we did a 4 day safari with them and it too was exceptional. There was one small hiccup at one of the safari hotel/camp properties and they fixed it within an hour of my sending an email. Our guide Sherif, was very experienced and that resulted in his ability to spot animals and answer all our questions. He is another example of this superb company.

I typically find the best in companies but this is the most glowing review I have ever posted, and they deserve it. Thanks Kilimanjaro Brothers!

Memories to last a lifetime!
Jul. 2019
We could not be happier that we decided to book our trip to Tanzania with Kilimanjaro Brothers. From the first enquiry emails sent to George and his team, we were constantly impressed with the help and information we were given to book our trip. I can be very indecisive and every time I would think of something new or change my mind on something, they were happy to give me suggestions on possible itineraries.

For reference we are couple (both 30) from Australia and we ended up booking a 7 day climb on the lemosho route and a 5 day safari, both of which were amazing mostly due to the great guides and porters we got to spend these couple of weeks with. As soon as we landed (after a long transit from Aus!) we were greeted with Kili Brothers staff who took us to our hotel. On a side note, all of the accommodation spots we stayed for the trip were really great.

We then headed off on our 7 day hike. We had a team of 12 taking us up the mountain and we were so happy we got to share this memorable trip with them. Our guides Marwa and Sam looked after us so well, my boyfriend was feeling the altitude by the time we got close to the top, but we always felt safe with these guys. Our chef Edu made the most delicious meals and Chaz, Mtaki, Kirenge and all our other porters were always around to help, nothing was too big an ask. The climb is not an easy feat but we had so much fun doing the trip with our team! We really did feel that they were cheering us on to get to the top and were just as happy as we were when we made it. If you are like me, you might question the need for so many people to help you on this hike but believe me they are worth their weight in gold!

The same can be said for our safari guide, Julius. Even feeling sick on the first day of our safari didn't stop him from giving us an amazing experience! He is so knowledgeable and really took the time to make sure we were having a good time. There is a considerable amount of driving that is done on safari and we felt really safe with Julius, the vehicles are also surprisingly comfy!

If you are considering booking with Kilimanjaro Brothers, I would absolutely tell you to stop considering and go for it.

A huge thank you to Kilimanjaro Brothers and particularly to our guides and porters - you really made our trip of a lifetime one to remember forever!

Asante sana :)

Amazing climb with Kili Brothers
Jul. 2019
Booking with Kilimanjaro Brothers was the best decision my friends and I made. They made our climb possible and enjoyable at the same time. Benjamin was great organizing all our pre and post climb logistics. Our three guides (Joseph, Prictus, and Walter) were always there supporting us and making sure we kept in good condition for the summit day. Chef William cooked the best meals us as well. Overall great experience! Thanks Stefano

Great service and excellent company
Jul. 2019 • Couples
We just finished our 7 day hike with Kili brothers and I was most impressed by their professionalism and teamwork. Our guide was highly experienced and I got the sense that the porters were treated well. It is reasonably priced and a local company so I was happy that the money you pay stays in Tanzania.
We were looked after from the moment we arrived at Kilimanjaro airport to the moment we were dropped back off.
I liked the personalised service that they also provided me with- in the months leading up to the climb I had many specific questions and they answered each and every one of them.
Their united purpose is truly to get you to the summit safely.
The food is excellent. They treat the water before they give it to you. I did not expect to be woken up every morning to hot tea and coffee served to us in our tent! So many little details that made the experience even more special. I would highly recommend anyone considering to climb Kilimanjaro that you don’t need to look any further than these guys. Their packing list is extensive and excellent. Very very pleased with this company.
