About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Seaside114353427280 contributionsUnforgettable trip with great hospitality from Andes SaltWe applied for superior Superior package 2 day 1 night directly from the company via whatsapp. For the preparation period, the secretary gave clear information and prompt reply to all our enquires. The difference between the tour we can see in tripadvisor and their website is that the superior package will be a private tour. For paying deposit, we will require transfer via Western Union. Pickup from airport was smooth and we settled rest of the payment in their office inside Uyuni. Then we met our guide Raquel, who is a really knowledgable and kind lady who accompanied us for the trip. The tour schedule matches with the descriptions and we could fine tune with our guide due to climate changes. For example, we changed sunset and star gazing to 2nd day due to poor weather on day 1. We could also add sunrise trip for D2 morning at the Salt Flats. Upon arriving each spot, Raquel gave us informative explanation which enriched our trip. The lunch prepared by the company was also great. The salt-hotel included in the package was surperb. Nice wifi and facilities. Last but not least, Raquel and our driver helped us to take a lot of photos on the salt lake with various funny ideas. We would definitely recommend this trip to our friends. Once again, shout out to Raquel and our driver for their great hospitality.Written 19 November 2024

- SurayaB990 contributionsWonderful placeThe salt flats are definitely a wonder to behold. So beautiful and mysterious. We had fun playing with photos and enjoyed wine at sunset. We loved our day exploring the salt flats however the time with our guide was disappointing. Axel did not explain the plan for the day in the beginning or through the day. He failed to answer questions, or communicate effectively. Our group was split between 2 vehicles and several times our car and driver was left behind. Our car did not have an English speaking guide as we had requested. Time management and communication of the day needed to be improved. WeWritten 7 November 2024

- 324guidol0 contributionsGreat experience with a great guideThe experience was great, and thanks to our guide Franklin we were able to make the best out of the 2 days we had to visit the salar! The itinerary is very well structured, the organization is great, and best of all the people you come across are amazing. Franklin has a lot of experience and knowledge about the salar, and is a great person to spend time with. The staff at the Salt hostel is also very nice. Very recommended to go with this tour!Written 28 October 2024

- FrickyFlyer0 contributionsSalty and SweetExcellent tour. Our driver/guide, "Axle," demonstrated a keen knowledge of the region and didn't seem to mind if one of us (me) didn't fully understand the first time (there's a lot to know about Solar flats). The volcano hike was great despite a lot of huffing and puffing for me (70 years old). Great dinner at the Salt Hotel where you'll be stepping on a unique bedroom floor. Axle's humor will get you going. He also manipulating some great camera/video shoots for us. Our group of seven (includes guide) all became one.Written 28 October 2024
- 393mihak0 contributionsLike nothing you've seen beforeThis is an unmissable trip. If you are in Bolivia, you need to see the salt flats because they're unlike anything we've seen before. We were picked up at the airport and managed to join the tour even though our flight was delayed. We went first to the train cemetery and then to the salt flats. There was a nice lunch half way through and on the way back we also stopped at the cactus island. The sunset experience was our highlight of the day, but it has to be said we enjoyed the other parts almost equally as much. Our guide Bryan kept us entertained and we were lucky with our companions in the car who all made it a thoroughly enjoyable day. 5*Written 24 October 2024

- Sunnyrob1010 contributionsAndes Salt Expeditions and Edwin our guide are great! This one day tour was exceptional from start to finish. It had just the right amount of time at each place we visited. Some Tours have large groups and feel rushed, but not this one. Edwin our guide was fantastic! Great explanations, there was plenty of time for photos and he truly is a great photographer. We could not have got the photos we did without him. Thank you so much Edwin for creating one of the best experiences of our South American journey. You are a true gentleman.Written 11 October 2024
- X779ASjasonr0 contributionsGreat Tour to the Uyuni Salt FlatsVery good tour, knowledgeable and friendly guide in Jose (with solid English) and great driver in Oscar. I found this tour to be a good value for a full day tour, with a lunch that was tasty and with an abundance of food (the llama steak on the tour was better than I've had in some restaurants). Amazing sights that need to be seen personally. Would highly recommend the Andes Salt Expedition Tour to anyone!Written 11 October 2024

- 823tama0 contributionsAmazing two-day tour of Salar de UyuniGreat experience! Our two day tour with guide Edwin and driver Angel was perfect, they were both really friendly and fun to be around. Edwin had the answer to any question we had about Uyuni and beyond, and he was an expert at the perspective photos that are the trademark of the salt flat tour (with Angel the expert at the nighttime photos). Would recommend to anyone.Written 1 October 2024

She was very informative and did some great perspective shots on the salt flats. She really looked after my friend when she was struggling with her breathing on the hike up the mountain. Our driver was great too I didn't catch his name and he didn't speak much English but he was always smiling and happy. Would definitely recommend this company!Written 30 September 2024

I booked a 3D/2N tour. The landscapes you are going to see are amazing and in Elmer we had a good guide. The only complaint I had was that when going to the salt flats I was put on a tour with people that had booked a different tour than the standard itinerary to the salar, which meant that in the end we didn't spend a lot of time in the salar itself or the island Incahuasi in the center of the salt lake. I understand that in the low season tour companies cannot always fill the whole tours and therefore usually mix people with different tours together. However I felt disappointed because I didn't have the time in the salar that I had expected based on the standard itinerary that the company sold me and since this was the main highlight of the tour for me. I complained about this and the owner of the company personally took care of it and offered to me to do another 1D tour to the salar that followed the standard itinerary. Even though I went with another company, I was very happy because I didn't have to pay anything extra and I felt this was a very fair solution.
Even though I paid a few dollars more compared to other companies I would always do it again as apart from my complaint everything was perfect and well organized and in case there is a problem the owner personally takes care of it to find a solution that is satisfactory to his clients, which I think is not always the case with other companies from what I heard from other people.
So I can absolutely recommend this tour and company.

Thoroughly enjoyed my tour! The Salt Flats were amazing and our guide, Cristian, was excellent with his photography skills when taking photos of the group. Our itinerary had to change slightly on the second day due to adverse weather but Cristian ensured we were safe by taking a different route, but this alternative route allowed us to visit other viewpoints so we didn’t feel like we were missing out. I notice some reviews comment on the amount of driving/time in the car - please just sit back and enjoy the views, they’re incredible, and if you want to stop the car for pictures or to stretch your legs, just ask your guide.
I would recommend hiring a sleeping bag for the second night if you’re doing the tour during winter - you’ll need it! Also, our hotel on the first night after the Salt Flats was back in Uyuni which I hadn’t expected, but the quality of the hotel was great. The breakfasts and lunches provided were also plentiful.

Highly recommended! We have booked the 3 days tour directly on the Salt Adventures website which is very handy. The tour was well organized and we were very happy with our guide. José spoke very good English and provided us with a very detailed information about all the places we have visited. He was also an excellent driver who made us feel safe while driving across the desert and salt flats.

Me and my brother took this expedition of 3 days and 2 nights, plus a stargazing tour in the water mirror area of the salt flat. We departed from our hotel at 3:00 AM for stargazing, and reached the place by 4:00 AM, they gave us plastic boots. The april weather this time of dawn was really freezing, but we experienced a breathtaking view of the milk way, above and below because of the clear reflection. Their crew took amazing pictures of us with a professional camera and they sent them to me through WhatsApp. We stayed till sunrise, and now it's one of the most beautiful memories I have. Impossible to forget. Then we went back to the hotel and waited until the departure time for the expedition, and we visited a lot of beautiful sites, lagoons, volcanic area, and a pleasant hot spring. The hotels where we stayed each night were kinda comfortable, but they charge extra if you want to connect in their Wi-Fi (this should change). Overall, I'm very grateful for this experience.

To visit the Incahuasi Island. . After many days with rain the salt flat was not accessible, but when we visited it we were able to reach the Incahuasi Island. Not one car seen except ours! We did 45 kms over de salt flat and then 45 kms over salted water. The driver Oscar was excellent , Extremely responsable he drove very carefull over the water.
We had lunch at the island

Braulio de owner was very kind and made us very happy when he agreed to take us to the Island. The view magnificient. We visit as well Laguna cColorada , laguna Pelada y laguna Verde. Axel the driver was very concious and careful.
I highly reocmmended this agency, reasonable prices, the land cruisers were not new but they rode extremely well

We did the 3D2N tour from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni with a family of 4. Our guide Enrique was fabulous - a real passion for his country (Bolivia) and the altiplano region. He was a ton of fun and always told us the plan for the day and kept us informed. We travelled with 2 4WDs and both drivers we skillful and were able to fix a problem we had with our Landcruiser. They were expert drivers and organised the meals and accommodation ahead so everything ran smoothly. We had 2 full days (+12hrs) and then an early morning for sunrise over the Salar de Uyuni. The sights were spectacular - the desert is an amazing place. We saw loads of llamas, flamingos, vicuñas and viscachas. The food was good and hotels very comfortable. My only complaint was with the company not the guide and drivers. I don’t understand why I paid more than others and we booked in advance (allowing planning for the company) plus US$50 each for an English guide (US$200 for a family). Nobody else had this surcharge. I understand you need to pool groups but the charge should be the same.

The most incredible experience!! We did the 3 day tour and loved it all.
Axel was a brilliant tour guide - great English, made sure we saw the best of all the sights on offer, whilst ensuring we were all having fun. Oscar / Bob was heroic. The tour necessitates a lot of time in the car and he was a 10/10 driver; even bought a Bluetooth device for the car to keep the tunes flowing.
They catered for my gluten intolerance so kindly, always had enough good tasty food to eat. Answered all our questions about the natural formations and culture. Miss the salt flats already.
Only warning is that the second hostel is freezing beyond freezing. I didn’t bring thermals or gloves and truly regretted it. You can pay 10BOL for a hot shower in the evening but be prepared for a cold wake up.

We give one star just because the places we visited were worth it. We did 3 days 2 nights tour in Salar de Uyuni with 4 other people.
First of all the guy that asked us for the money was trying to make us pay 20 more dollars than the actual price of the tour advertised on the website.
The tour was fine regarding the places but absolutely not regarding the guide: The guy was explaining the least possible about what we were seeing, his attitude was being negative the whole time, you could tell he was not enjoying doing his job and that he probably doesn’t like tourists. Even though we tried to ignore this, obviously it negatively affected our tour.
Lastly when we had to cross the border to go to Chile, the bus we had paid for to the Bolivian company (20$ each person) was not there and for half an hour the guy told us he had no idea what to do. Furthermore he was saying it was not fault of the Bolivian company (like it was our problem to solve). The only good thing about the guided tour (made exception for the landscapes that were stunning) was the food we had for lunch that was always good and well cooked.

We had an amazing experience with this 3-day tour. Our tour guide José explained everything very well and took enough time during our stops. The Uyuni salt flats were fantastic and José was very creative when taking pictures and videos! We can certainly recommend this tour, especially when keeping in mind that it may be somewhat long drives, it is all definitely more than worth it! Thanks for the lovely experience!

We joined a 3 days 2 nights private Superior Tour of Andes Expedition to explore the Salt Flat of Uyuni as well as the border desert area before the transfer to San Pedro de Atacama (border crossing from Bolivia to Chile). We're lucky to have our tour guide cum driver, Mr Jose Lozer, who kept us company throughout the whole journey. He was one of the few professional guide who spoke fluent English and knew inside out of Uyuni and the desert, together with his superb driving skills on the bumpy trail, the trip was so enjoyable that we would never forget.
One point for Andes's consideration. During the enquiry process for fixing the price package, Andes guaranteed accommodation arrangement at Hotel Luna Salada would be arranged. It was not until the first day of the tour that accommodation would be changed to Palacio de Sal instead which caused unnecessary disappointment among my team members. With a hindsight, the location of Palacio might be a better one for arranging the activities of stargazing and sunrise at 4 AM for the trip. Why couldn't the Andes be more candid when drawing up the itinerary for their guest?

We returned around 5PM I believe. We had plenty of time, all the buses left around 8:30-10PM that day. They know that most tourists leave Uyuni after the 3 day tour, I am sure you will have a few hours to kill after the tour. But if you want to have the peace of mind, I would reach out to the tour operator. They replied to me pretty fast whenever I had a question.

Hello, I wanted to ask if at the moment (March 2022) the tour was actually entering Chile (due to covid)? I also wanted to ask if there was an estimation on prices of entering each area as I see they are excluded. Finally do I need a covid 19 PCR if I am fully vaccinated? Thank you in advance!
Written 18 March 2022
I would suggest you contact the tour operator in regards to the border crossing as our tour did not offer that. I remember the Laguna Colorado was $150 BOB per person. I cannot remember the price for the hot springs as it was minimal. We did not go to Fish Island on the Salar because it was flooded for rainy season.
And finally yes, you need a PCR even if fully vaccinated. :)
