        Truly amazing experience.
A visit to the monasteries is a must when visiting Greece. And this tour was exceptional. The bus ride is 4 1/2 hours each way with a pit stop at the 1/2 way point. Upon arrival to the base of the monasteries, you get a delicious lunch (if purchased with the tour) of Greek salad and your choice of protein with potatoes/pasta and veggies. Our tour guide Clement was phenomenal. The history and knowledge that he had of all the monasteries was mind boggling. He was able to answer all questions asked and even assisted with some exceptional photos for tour members. To hear the history of these monasteries and how they were built is truly amazing. We visited 3 monasteries and the price to enter is 3 euros each, which is not included in the tour. Wearing comfortable shoes is a must as there are quite a lot of steps to see the monasteries. The views are just so breathtaking. Highly recommend this tour.

        SPRING in Meteora
A wonderful day with the team from Meteora Thrones. Maria was an excellent guide. Kind, lovely girl with a lot of knowledge about what she talks about. We were returning by train to Thessaloniki and she made sure all the time that we don't miss the train. I highly recommend Meteora Thrones to everyone planning to visit Meteora, you won't regret it. :)

        BREATHTAKING VIEWS OF METEORA
We had a great one day trip and from start to finish it was on time. The trip guide Stacy was very professional and gave clear and detailed information on the sites. The view in Meteora was breathtaking. Also the price we got online booking was a good deal compared to other operators.

The most amazing place on earth
Where to begin… this was by far the highlight of our time in Athenes. Words cannot describe the beauty and majesty of the monasteries. Its like being in a movie. Our guide Nico was just beyond. Every tour we did after we kept saying how we wish Nico was doing it. He faces us when talking, knows everything lol and he just gave enough information not to overload us like they do on so many other tours. Not allot of people know about this place but when we show pictures, they were all jealous and wished they would have known about it. Things to keep in mind: respect the dress code. Its just being respectful. Pack LOTS of water. You so stop a couple of times on the drive but its nit enough. Bring cash. Bring snacks. And if you’re like me and love animals, bring cat treats! I recommend this tour 10000%

Profoundly moving site with an exceptional guide.
OMG, this tour company and its guide were, and I am underselling them here, FANTASTIC!!! We left from Athens about 8 A.M. and went up the highway towards Volos. The bus was clean and comfortable, the driver was competent and friendly. We stopped for a bathroom break on the way and the optional lunch was available at the stop near Kalabaka. I skipped the lunch. In Kalabaka we left our Pullman-type bus and split into Spanish and English tours on separate minibuses. We proceeded to visit three of the six active monasteries (they can only be visited on a rotating schedule) OK, the site is by far the highlight of the trip. Absolutely awesome. But our guide, Clement, a relatively young Canadian of Greek and English heritage, made this trip. He was superb, far more knowledgeable than the typical memorization and recitation of a canned spiel type of guide. He thoughtfully answered serious questions. He knew the monks and nuns in the monasteries personally. He was a scholar of both historic and modern Orthodoxy, one with a manner to easily communicate the historical significance and the spiritual character of Greek Orthodoxy and Meteora's place in it to every single person on that minibus. He made an awesome site visit beyond magnificent. I am a college professor who teaches ancient Greek, and I know some Byzantine and post-Byzantine Greek history. Our guide taught me things I didn't know and expressed the meaning of these monasteries in a truly profound way. Clement made this trip genuinely moving. If Meteora Thrones hires people like him on a regular basis, it is an extremely well run company. My only regret was that I was pressed for time and couldn't do the two-day trip. It was a very long day since we got back to the Larissa train station in Athens about 10 PM. Next time I am in Athens, I am using this company and doing the longer excursion. Two cautions: If you're subject to carsickness, take some Dramamine. Second, to enter two of the three monasteries we visited there were a lot of steps. I mean a lot. You need to take your time and not push yourself. But I did it and I'm about to turn 70.

        Professional and reliable tour group
Booking the tour was very easy and staff were very responsive via email. They also accommodated our request to have one member of our family do the Panoramic tour while the others did the hiking tour. They remembered that request during the actual tour which was a big plus. Bus pickup and drop off were generally on time. We had a pit stop to break up the five-hour ride to and from Athens to Meteora. The tour itself was comfortable with a lot of nice views. The guide will only go with you inside the Byzantine church, but not inside the monasteries. The stories about the monasteries were therefore only during the bus ride and if you ask additional questions. As we had three different guides during the two-day tour, we heard roughly the same kind of information three times as well: it would be great if the guides would inject some more interesting trivia about the place or maybe personal experiences so we could know better what life is like living in such a beautiful place or in Greece in general!

        Wonderful tour with rude driver
What a wonderful place for visiting in our lifetime, this must be a must in your bucket list if you travel in Greece that I recommend .The tour girl ,Maria, is friendly ,little hilarious and professional. She and the driver are deserved my tip. The reasons I rated this tour three star that the driver from Athens to meteora is very rude.I saw one Asian guy with his family on the bus asked the driver a question " do we leave our personal bags on the bus ,and the driver yelled at him ,not even a right answer did your name being called..The other drivers at the transfer area going back to Athens not very friendly neither. Oh well they are working very hard .Maybe

Great guide Maria and driver George. Just realize it is 10 hours round trip.
The views were amazing. Really impressive. Our guide Maria and driver George were excellent. She was so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. Her English was marvelous. George managed the narrow, winding switchback roads like it was a 6 lane freeway. They were helpful, friendly and couldn't have been more entertaining. The food was a great taste of local cuisine. Now the problems. Because it is 5-ish hours from Athens to the town where we met the guide and van driver, and the trains are not running for whatever reason, the large bus trip to and from the site was miserable. None of the 3 or 4 drivers spoke much if any English. They herded us on to busses with the only explanation or confirmation we were in the right place was a sign in the window with "Meteora tour" and a printed list with the name of the person that had booked the tour for our group and the number in our party. 5 hours with no communication or explanation, 1 stop for "WC" break and to buy snacks. When we tried to ask questions, or ask for more AC, we got a blank stare and a couple of Greek words that were unintelligible to us. If not for the excellent guide Maria, and driver George, and the fantastic views and interesting sites, this would have been a 1 star review. But really, do this, just be warned. Maybe if it was a train trip instead of bus trip, it would have been less aggravating.

This is not a tour but similary to reserved taxi to transport you to the plance
This is not a guided tour but simply a taxi transportation that we have to pay USD180. I think it does not worth at all especially we actually have our own car to transport. The purpose that we sign up for the tour is to get as much as insights/stories/information about meteora and the monestaries. Apparantely, the information was very basic and little. No story at all about monestaries since we were dropped at the enterence and we have do the self tour.

Meteora Thrones 2 day tour. Efficient and effortless.
Everything was seamlessly and efficiently put together. Ran like experienced clockwork. Much easier than trying to DIY. Bus was comfortable albeit a very long journey. 2 days gave a lot of extra time in the afternoons to explore the town on our own and suggestions were not proactively given until after the second morning tour. We were able to book ourselves an extra horse riding tour to use up some time on the second afternoon. 3 star hotel Alexious was simple but has a nice balcony with partial view of the rocks and right in the town, so a very short walk to souvenir shops and restaurants. It has everything you need in a hotel room, just a bit dated looking with a safe that still uses a key! But hey, at least it has a safe! They also allowed us to store our luggage and use their restroom after checking out in the morning. We opted for the hike on the second day. We were the only 2 who chose it so we basically had a private tour with young Christos who is an excellent guide, speaks great English and was very considerate to keep a nice pace and took lots of photos of us. I think this is a much better option than sitting on the bus going through much of the sane scenery again. We saw different scenery and perspectives and more things up close. We are a less than fit couple on the wrong end of 50 with knee and joint problems and we found the home much easier than expected. Thanks to Christos always offering help and our trusty hiking poles and boots as well as monks who really know how to build paths ( according to Christos) s well as the perfect cool weather.

        Beautiful trip
The views and monastries were incredible. Definitely recommend doing the hike on day 2. Not strenuous and allows for a change from sitting on the bus. Our guides and drivers were wonderful. Maria and Christos on day 1 and Christos on the hike. Very knowledgeable and kept things interesting. Hotel was great, good breakfast. The drive is long but manageable. Would recommend the two day tour. Try plan day 2 as there is a long wait from the end of the hike until the bus leaves.

        Spectacular views
The tour didn’t start off well the instructions of where to meet the bus in Athens was not accurate. We were told to wait at the opposite side of the street from the train station, so a bunch of us stood there. Also the signage on the bus to look for was not big enough to see. Finally a local stranger told us we were on the wrong side and we crossed over. After that every thing went well. It’s a 5 hour ride there and back with no WiFi and no bathroom on board so be prepared. We did have pit stops each way after about 2.5 hours. Once there they separated us into smaller vans which was nice and had WiFi. Maria our guide was great. She gave us a lot of info about the area and we were allowed ample time to visit the sites. The views and the monasteries were beautiful a must see. It’s a bit of a walk to a few of them uphill so for some older people it might be a little challenging. Overall really spectacular views and well organized experience.

I should start by saying our tour guides were really nice and helpful.

BUT, this is a gigantic bus that pulls up, lets you off, and ferries you to the next monastery. Other tours had guides who went inside and gave what seemed to be rather extensive art history lectures on all the cool paintings.

Also, and this is particularly important now that Greece is in the midst of a historic heat wave -- they don't turn on the air conditioning. The driver's a/c was turned on but it was not turned on for the rest of the bus so we SWELTERED while we waited for the various people on our tour who seemed either to ignore or misunderstand the times we were supposed to be back at the bus.

Meteora is also hella crowded during the peak tourist season so the monasteries lose a bit of their serene magic as you're crammed in with other tourists wondering if anyone has covid as you wait to get back on your steamy bus.

The whole tour was awesome. Our guide Christina knew everything about monasteries and told us some interesting "behind the scenes" stories. The big surprise at the end of our tour is a cherry on a cake but make sure you will have good weather to experience it! Also shout out to Sokratis - the bus driver. His skills are unbelievable, driving the bus in such mountain conditions requires a lot of skills. I definitelly recommend you to book the tour with this company :)

We loved every part of our Meteora Monasteries tour, but the sunsets are the best! The history of the “cave monasteries” was so interesting. Inside the monasteries, very little is written in English, so it would be helpful if you had a guide go inside with you who was knowledgeable, but we still enjoyed the scenery and getting to go inside. George and Chris were very informative on the buildings, outdoor areas, etc… so the tour while on the bus was great!

First, Meteora is spectacular and parking is a zoo at the monasteries, so it really does make sense to do a tour to save yourself the headache. This tour was really just a slightly better version than a “hop on, hop off” style of service. Nothing really stood out, but they still run a smooth operation. The “guide” doesn’t come inside the buildings and gives kind of a cursory overview of things. The guide we had was a little too chill and kind of quiet. Could have been just as good with only a driver and a prerecorded audio track. For the price, it’s decent value and worth it just to get you around the sites efficiently. Just don’t expect much more than that. I suspect the other main competitor, Visit Meteora, is similar.

4 Hour Tour to visit 3 of the Monestaries at Meteora and see 3 others from outside.
Yannis (Guide) and Kostas (Driver) made this Tour an amazing experience; knowledge about the Monasteries, the wonderfull Landscapes and where to get the best pictures.
The Participants in the Tour came from different Countries, but Yannis and Kostas made us feel like One Group. An exciting, challenging (physically) and educational Meteora Tour.
Such a Tour with Meteora Thrones we would recommend every one to book!!

We took the 4 hour tour from Kalambaka after reading some positive reviews. We caught the train from Athens on our own, which worked out fine, had snacks and coffee on the train. The tour was very well organised and we saw the 6 monasteries and entered 3 of them. More time inside at the first one would have been good but I can understand why it isn’t done due to time constraints. Other than this the tour didn’t feel rushed and there was time made for photos. I will have a lasting memory of the excellent pizza slice at the cafe we were taken to - best ever. Our tour guide and driver were highly skilled and knowledgeable and I felt safe at all times.

Amazing experience! Team was professional, driver (Kostas) Pro, and guide (Yannis) a local boy who knew a lot about place and share his knowledge with charm and sense of humor. We also saved a lot of time for not caring about driving and looking for a parking spots. Highly recommended.

The guide dmitri/dimitrius was very professional and knowledgeable on all things about the area and it's history. We had a group of 17 and visited multiple monasteries.there was plenty of time in each.Dmitri stopped at many scenic sites and really helped me understand the history and how the area was formed. I got a lift to my hotel afterwards which was very helpful and a nice addition.
Bus was comfy, scenery amazing and great guide.what more can you ask?well worth the money.
