Once home to more than 20 monasteries, Meteora now features six of them, each perched on a sandstone pinnacle. Take a guided tour of one of the monasteries, learning about the people who once resided there, and then continue to some of Meteora’s “hermitage” caves, burrowed into high cliffs near the little-known St. Nicolas Badovas Monastery. Tour the caves as you learn how they were used by hermits and monks, and afterward, visit a Byzantine church. Lastly, visit a secret viewpoint to see stunning sunset panoramas over Meteora, watching as the sun bathes the rocks in ethereal gold. Your tour finishes at the original departure point.

Amazing tour with the best tourguides
The tour was amazing! The view was great and we visited the most awesome monasteries. They take you to the most beautiful locations for pictures too! Our tourguides were Katerina and Dinos. We have never met such amazing people! If you have them as guides you will learn so much about the history of the place and have an amazing day! 10/10 reccomend this tour. The busride from Athens is long but definitely worth it. Also they get you some delicious lunch before you go into the mountains with the guides.

        Exceptional tour
We took the Meteora day trip from Athens. It was supposed to be by train, but flooding forced a change to the bus. The ride was 5 hours long but manageable with a rest and snack stop halfway. Just manage your water consumption timing accordingly! We split into smaller buses when we got there. Our guide, Katerina, was exceptional. She was very highly educated on the history of the area. She grew up there and was able to share personal experiences, which greatly enhanced the tour. She stood at the counter and helped everyone choose and order lunch. And when it poured rain the last hour of our tour, she still made sure we saw every photo stop. She even went out with those of us crazy enough to, and got soaking wet helping us take photos with no umbrella! Now that's dedication. She was genuinely invested in making sure we had the best possible experience. The only advice I would give on this tour is to be prepared to eat lunch fast, and try to get first in line. Otherwise, you may feel a bit rushed. But you can't really complain about that when the result is more time at the monasteries. The monasteries were stunning and did not disappoint. The longest climb was 147 steps, and it wasn't too bad if you go slowly. Read about the dress code. This tour included a visit to the hermits cave, which was a bonus and very interesting.

        From cataclysm to miracle
Th skies opened and what could have been a disaster was turned into a unique and marvellous experience as our guide Jim knows everything and share his knowledge with love of his job and country - he was so kind even lending me his mother’s anorak- The following day a lady guide was equally delightful and proud of the monasteries in a way that was heartfelt and authentic

Geology, nature, history - this tour has it all
Wonderful! Initially I wasn't sure about signing up for the 3 day Meteora and Delphi 3 day tour. After spending time on a family holiday in Crete I had sent my husband and daughter back home as I had more time off work. It was a chunk of money to spend out of my holiday budget, but was worth every penny. After arriving from Athens into Kalambaka and being dropped off at Hotel Kaikis (really friendly staff) I had enough time for an impromptu visit to the Natural history and mushroom museum. This is an old school museum with lots of stuffed animals, but it was excellently done with grouping representative of the local ecology. Worth checking out the videos of the local birds of prey. Upstairs are models of all the mushrooms found locally, again grouped by ecosystem. Also includes info about uses and mythology. Really enjoyable and a good set up for the hiking option I chose for day 2 of the tour. I got back in time for the sunset tour. We were in a small group which was good. The sunset tour included far more than I'd expected, with views of most of the monasteries, a history of the use of the unique geology by hermits leading eventually to the monasteries, a visit to one monastery, and an old church partially built out of a preexisting temple of Apollo (fascinating). The monasteries provide a wrap around skirt if it is needed (no charge). Sunset was partially obscured by a cloud, but the colours were lovely. Apostoles our tour guide was very knowledgeable, funny, and patient with me getting far too excited and wanting to ask all the questions in one go. Ares was our driver and I thought is was very nice that the god of battles took time out of his busy schedule to get us around safely. And I saw a tortoise! The next day in a different small group we had our hiking tour. I was a bit worried that my fitness wouldn't be good enough, but for the most part the walking was not too challenging although the temperature was on my side in April. The steps down later in the walk was the worst bit for me. Ares the driver got us to our location and Evan was our tour guide. He was very friendly and he was very knowledgeable about the geology and nature of the area. We saw many different orchids (April seems to be a good time for flowers). We also saw wild boar wallow (the stuffed boar in the museum was a good reference). This was a highlight. The area is truly beautiful and this is a great way to see it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We also saw the inside of another monastery. After being dropped off in Kalambaka I had lunch with one of my fellow trekkers and then back to my hotel for a well deserved rest that afternoon. The next day it was time for my transfer to Delphi via Thermopylae. Imagine my surprise when it was just me and my lovely driver Stolos. We chatted about families, life in Greece, and the botany and wildlife of the area. All whole driving through some of the most stunning mountain scenery I have ever seen. The trip was worth it just for this. Stolos told me there is a mushroom festival in September which is a great reason for me to plan a repeat trip! At Delphi I was given my instructions to get the KTel bus. I went to the museum, saw the main site and the temple of Athena at the bottom. I rushed a bit, but in reality I had plenty of time. The ruins and museum were beautiful, but I have to say the mountains are still my highlight of the day. Getting the bus was easy and it didn't take long to get back to Athens. Apologies to everyone's name that I've got wrong.

        Meteora Overnight Tour
We took the two-day/one-night tour from Athens which included the 4-hour sunset tour and the small group hiking tour the next morning. I most highly recommend spending at least one night as the stunning scenery is well worth an extra day (vs. the one-day round trip from Athens). Transport was great and on-time, the tour company took excellent care of us throughout the entire two days. The tour guides were both outstanding and most highly recommended (Maria on Sunset Tour and Evan on Hiking Tour). We upgraded hotel to 4-star Meteora Grand which was nice but rather unimpressive and far out of town. I would definately save money and stay with the standard hotels which are in the local town. Hiking tour requires a reasonable level of fitness. I am 69 and had no problem as the pace is leisurely. This tour company and overnight tour are wonderful and well worth including on your Greece itenary.

Greece is mystical. Must see place, Meteora.
It was great, views are spectacular. First time in Greece , Meteora was our last tour before going back home. Restaurant in the rest stop is great and so the one in Meteora too. Great tour company . Only negative I’ll say our driver going back to the train station was vaping, we were seated right at the first 2 rows of the bus in the right side. Tour guide is great.

        Amazing hiking experience
We arrived in meteora with our own car from Athens and the first day we were very disapointed by the lack of parking and crowding on the monasteries . We searched and found an alternative way to experience Meteora by hiking . We loved it ! It takes you to a side of Meteora that is inaccesible by car . Thanks a lot Visit Meteora and many thanks to our guide Chris who was very helpfull and full of knowledge !

It was flawless from start to finish - every site we visited was remarkable, the information provided was insightful, and the sunset view was truly breathtaking. The tour itinerary ensured we had ample privacy at each location and arrived at the sunset spot right on schedule. The coordination and organization were exceptional. Above all, our tour guide, Vasilis, was the highlight of the day. His warmth, humor, and genuine care, especially towards our 10-month-old daughter, made the experience unforgettable. We had a wonderful experience on the "Discovering Meteora's Secrets in a Small Group" tour. This journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Meteora, Greece, was a highlight for our family, including our teenagers aged 16, 14, and 13.

From the very start, the tour stood out with its well-organized hotel pickup and drop-off, ensuring a hassle-free beginning and end to our adventure. Our guide was not only knowledgeable but also engaging, providing a rich narrative that brought the history of Meteora to life. The stories of the area and its past residents were both informative and captivating, sparking curiosity in all of us.

The timing of the tour was impeccable. Visiting the monasteries near dusk was a magical experience. The golden hues of the setting sun illuminated the ancient structures, creating a serene and almost mystical atmosphere. This timing also meant we avoided the large daytime crowds, allowing us to appreciate the tranquility and spiritual ambiance of the monasteries more fully.

One of the tour's highlights was the visit to the lesser-known Badovas caves. Exploring these hidden gems felt like stepping into a different world, and it was a unique experience that we wouldn't have discovered on our own. Additionally, the panoramic viewpoint our guide took us to offered breathtaking views of the landscape. Watching the sunset from this vantage point was a moment of awe and appreciation for nature's beauty, leaving a lasting impression on all of us.

The tour was well-paced, with ample time for questions and exploration. Our guide's enthusiasm and depth of knowledge made every stop along the way both educational and entertaining. It was evident that the tour was designed with a passion for sharing the wonders of Meteora with visitors.

Overall, our experience with the "Discovering Meteora's Secrets in a Small Group" tour was exceptional. It provided us with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Meteora's historical and natural beauty. This tour is a must-do for families and anyone interested in exploring the hidden treasures of Greece. Highly recommended for its educational value, unique experiences, and the sheer beauty it encapsulates.

Amazing sunset with excellent service! We had a bit of a traffic jam from Athens, thank you so much for the arrangement and giving us a very good impression of Meteora. Highly recommend.

The sunset tour was very informative - viewing monasteries and churches. Able to enter one monastery which was beautiful - the church in it was small and crowded but the courtyard was beautiful with a nice view of the valley. Women are provided with wraps if they are wearing pants/shorts/ or dresses not covering down to knees. Men are allowed in wearing longer shorts. No tank tops are allowed. Vassily was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and very helpful in taking family/couple pictures at all of the view points. We rode a van around most of Kastriki to see the different monasteries from different viewpoints. At sunset the van took us to the best viewpoint to watch the sunset. Unfortunately every one else knows that spot too but the van got us to the point without having to park a half mile down and walk to the viewpoint. We also did a short hike to a viewpoint of a historic cave built into the side of the cliffs. It was very encompassing and gave us a good overall knowledge of the monasteries and the surrounding area. Worth the trip!
