    Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was the best, most authentic experience I’ve had in all of Central America! Juana was so friendly, patient, caring and helpful. I really enjoyed learning about the traditions and culture of Santa Cruz, including hearing her speak her native language, Kaqchickel. Juana welcomed me to her home and taught me how to cook a traditional meal (Pulique) and to bead jewelry, which is her profession. Afterwards, she showed me how to set up and enjoy a traditional sauna called a Temazcal. Her and the local guide/translator, Miguel, were also so kind to find local help for my friend, Rachel, who was unfortunately too sick to join the tour. Juana even sent a bracelet home with me for Rachel, too. If you are going to do one thing near Lake Atitlan, it should be this.

This is a really valuable and worthwhile experience for any visitor to lake Atitlán. It is a treat to experience real Mayan culture with these humble, hard working women. Truly engaging and quaint - not an experience you can get elsewhere.

This was a very interesting and eye-opening experience. The host family was very gracious in opening their home to us. My only recommendation would be that if you don't speak Spanish, make it clear that you will need a translator.

Very informative and as local as it could be. We couldn’t speak Spanish but they got us a translator! We also learned some Mayan words:)

How do you describe an experience that starts with a “what am I doing?” And ends with “thank goodness I did that.” A glorious chance to enjoy gorgeous vistas, kind women, great comraderie and local children. Ohh .. plus great food made by a team of local women and foreigners. Shared about the same table in multiple languages.
