- C1ndy20140 contributionsA great way to sample the park!We found this to be an excellent way to see a sampler of the park. Our guide, Marcello, was excellent as was our driver and the Cook. We enjoyed each stop and felt well educated. Lunch was very enjoyable.Written 25 March 2024

Daniel was a fantastic guide, very informative and knowledgeable. The canoe portion was also excellent, with great guidance from Olmo and Mauri. I highly recommend this experience and these guides!Written 29 February 2024
- GlobetrottingSwede0 contributionsNot worth itNote: this is a review for a similar trip organized by Canal. This excursion consists of: - 3 hours in a car - 2 hours lunch next to a windy lake - 3 hours in a car In other words, not much to see or learn, since the Canal driver didn’t have any information that we hadn’t heard several times before… To make things worse, Canal crammed 6 adults in the car. This was uncomfortable and especially unpleasant on the bumpy trails in the woods.Written 1 February 2024

- GenevaJenn0 contributionsFantastic day! Phenomenal guides! What a fantastic day I had on this excursion! Everything was well-organized. The equipment was in great shape and the guides took care of every logistic. After a wonderful paddle through a lake and a portion of the Beagle Canal, we had a short hike to see the most beautiful scenery of the area. Our small tour bus next went to the post office where we could get a vanity passport stamp and mail postcards. To top it off, we had a beautiful picnic in the area. The food was very good and the bottles of Argentina wine really hit the spot. All in all, it was one of the most perfect excursions I have participated in. Special thank you to Santiago and Cato for making this a wonderful day!Written 15 January 2024
- 189johanna0 contributionsGreat drive, beautiful views, excellent food but a little crampedThis was a great day out along an interesting and beautiful route in a 4x4 vehicle. The driver/guide was knowledgeable and informative and went out of his way to be pleasant and helpful. The lunch stop was a pleasant surprise - great food and wine on the house - a cabin in the woods! We enjoyed the whole day immensely. The only slight downside was that the car was cramped with six passengers, especially when we hit the rough roads. For the price, I’d say you should not have anyone in the middle of a rather narrow back seat. It would be virtually impossible for even slightly bulky people, which none of us were.Written 11 March 2023
- carolrG1634UU0 contributionsWonderful Eco Adventure DayThis was a terrific trip from start to finish. Pickup was timely, the guides were friendly, informative and helpful and lunch was excellent (and enormous!) The paddling was not too demanding and we were fortunate to have decent weather and to see a great deal of wildlife. Truly a first rate outfit.Written 19 February 2023
- Lucasito1230 contributionsExcellent excursionExcellent experience. The guide, Franco, was very friendly and with great knowledge of the area, also very expert in driving the 4X4 truck through the uncovered area. The excursion includes lunch and Patagonian wine, which were provided inside a cabin located in a wooded area. It really was a great experience, and the guide put his humor and joy into this excursion. Beautiful Lakes Escondido y FanganoWritten 19 January 2023

- swimmer030 contributions4WD Sardines in a CanPicked up from the hotel and my seat in the four wheel drive vehicle was in the back row, suitable for children but not for an adult who has paid good money to do a 4 WD trip. I shared the seat with a young lady who had a bad leg and was really struggling. There was very little leg room and very limited visibility out the tiny rear side window. The guy in front of us was not happy with the situation and said there was no way he was spending 6 hours cramped in the small space. I certainly felt like a “sardine in a can”. If you are going to put 6 people including a driver in a vehicle it needs to be a large 4 WD like a Toyota Landcruiser. The customer who was not happy with the situation asked to be taken back to his hotel with his partner as they would not be participating. The driver explained that at each stop we would be swapping seats so that we all got a fair chance, but he was still not happy and we dropped the two off. We were able to rearrange the seating with just the driver and 4 passengers: 1 passenger up front and 3 in the middle row, rotating the person sitting in the middle, since the back row was so uncomfortable and had such poor views. I felt for the first half of the trip that I was on a tour bus with the constant running monologue that seemed canned. There was a lot of driving, probably 40 minutes on sealed roads, then another 30-40 minutes on a dirt road, before we got to the lake and started real 4WD. The first stop on the sealed road was an overlook of a lake, which we skipped due to weather, stopping there on the return instead, showing good flexibility. At the second stop we got to walk along the lake, stretching our legs and admiring the views. The third leg of driving to our lunch stop included some moderate 4WD in mud ruts, deep puddles and the shallows of the lake; before being dropped off for a hike along the lake while they prepared the lunch. Lunch was delicious and the highlight of my trip, we had bread, cheese and sausage with olives and egg plant followed by a very tasty sausage sandwich, then the steaks which were huge with salad and potatoes. Desert was a very tasty local bread pudding. Lots of local Malbec wine in a shed in the middle of the Forrest and we got to see a grey fox who appeared outside the window just after we had finished the meal. The 4WD driving just before and after lunch was fun and I wish we could of done more of it in a bigger 4 WD. I would recommend that it would of been worth paying more to have a private tour and if we return that is what we would do.Written 5 January 2023
- chriswB7547RX0 contributionsBeautiful area and great experience with CanalGreat experience and beautiful country. Many people just head west to the national park. But this area was stunning. Thought Canal did a great job with the trip- was very easy to check their site for trip options, they were very responsive by email and answered my questions quickly, was easy to book and pay. They arrived perfectly on time. Their vehicles were very comfortable and reliable, which I'd appreciate later when another outfitter vehicle broke down and left us stranded on the road for a while. The guides were very friend and super knowledgeable. I learned a lot about the area on my first day. The best part was the lunch they provided at a private cabin along the shore. It was like a 4 course meal, not just a snack. Was a great trip all around.Written 29 December 2022

The trip itself was very good! Beautiful hike, good food and wine, fun boat ride.
The reason for rating of 3 was the guide on the hike. Note there was 1 guide for the hike and 1 for the boat. There absolutely should have been two guides for both sections. Not sure why they did not utilize both guides for both parts. During the hike an older gentleman with a leg issue fell behind. Our group of 4 (family) stayed behind to help him get through the tough terrain. At one point the guide asked if we could stay together more and not stop to take pictures. He was clueless as to what was going on at the back of line (total 14 people). We continued to lag behind helping this man. I then caught up with the rest and told the guide none of us are stopping to take pictures and let him know the struggles of the man. He seemed concerned and said he should check on him but…he just stood there. I then went back to find my family and the man. Come to find out the man and his spouse got lost because we got too far ahead. My family found them a bit shaken but unharmed. We then caught up just as the guide was coming to look for us. There was some confusion amongst the group who thought it was my family that was holding up the group. They kept telling us to move to the front. We tried telling them it was not us and both the guide and other members of the group got stern with us. There was a bit of a confrontation and we told the guide there should have been 2 of them and that we were doing his job for him. Later the guide pulled one family member to the side and said he should never disrespect him in front of the group!!! This was completely uncalled for! If not for our family the gentleman struggling would have fell (we caught him at least twice) and he would have been lost, yet we were pinged as the bad people. I am writing this the day after our trip and all of us had a hard time sleeping due to being so bothered by how the guide handled this situation.
As for the boat, we had one guide who was awesome!! Great personality and very informative. However, we were out in two boats and one boat had to use a guest to steer. You absolutely had to know what you were doing and thank goodness the guest did. Again, why were there not 2 guides this entire trip is beyond all of us! Unsafe, unsafe, unsafe!!!!

Dear Wendie,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write the review, and we’re sorry for the late response: we haven’t seen it before. We want to let you know that we are very sorry about your not completely nice experience with Us.
Although we have 25 years of experience doing this tour and fortunately have no serious accidents at all, we surely have aspects to improve. Thanks to your review we can continue working on it with our team, in order to avoid confusions like this in the future. We just want to clarify some points that can worry unnecessarily other travelers.
We accomplish all the National Park’s regulations for that path since they state that it is necessary to have 1 guide every 15 passengers. As we want to share our experiences with everyone who is in good condition to do it, we prefer not to establish a fixed maximum age which can be unfair with many aged passengers who are in good physical condition. It’s very important to read all descriptions of our tour before purchasing it because, even though we make a great effort to take care of the health of our passengers, it is not an easy job for our guides to evaluate the travelers physical conditions in advance and tell someone that they can't do an activity without being completely sure of it. Despite this, we will continue doing our best to improve this aspect.
Regarding the canoeing trip, we ensure it is not always necessary to row with one guide per canoe because, as you experienced, we float down in a calm river until we reach Lapataia Bay. Actually, that day there was another canoeing guide available to join the canoeing trip, but due the calm wind conditions it was not necessary. The canoeing guide had all the safety elements needed to secure and drive both canoes in case it was necessary. For that reason we are confident enough to give the chance to have a real nautical experience to our travelers and they can safely drive their own canoe when the guide is sure about the group's ability and the wind conditions.
We hope this delayed answer can help to change your mind about how much we are concerned for our traveler’s experience and security.
Kind regards for you and your family from all the Canal team!

I want to start this by saying that Ushuaia is a dream. No matter where you look at it, it's really beautiful. That said, coming from so far away it is logical that one wants to admire the landscape and photograph everything you are seeing and on this tour you cannot. Really, if there is something that bothers me about the tours, it is that they bring you running and do not respect the pace of the group. They went through us well, and although the guide was not the most courageous in the world, he gave us information throughout the journey. When we arrived at the boats, Pablo and his partner (I don't remember his name) were super nice to us and we were very happy that they were our guides from now on, but no, they only gave us the equipment and one of them left with us while the other boat was guided by a tourist (I don't think it's a very good idea or fair for the other half of the group that, having paid for a tour, one of us is their guide). The food was delicious and everyone there (Pablo again) was super friendly and attentive to us. The main problem was the walk. We were approximately 15 people and the guide (the same one from the truck, I don't remember the name) only gave explanations to those who were at the front, completely ignoring those of us who were further back (they are super narrow trails, there is no way to go in single file) and when he did wait for us he gave 3 hours of information in English and at least half of what he had explained in Spanish. There was a girl with a little boy of about 12 years old and she had to translate everything for him because the guide didn't mind speaking in Spanish being in Argentina(?Âż). I understand that everything takes time, but you couldn't really take a photo because you were already too far ahead of yourself. At one point even my friend was worried about me because I was no longer with the group. It's a shame because looking back I didn't really enjoy this tour despite how much we paid and it could have been a great experience with those landscapes, drinking tea by the lake and the explanations I could have heard IF ONLY DON'T GO RUNNING. He even told us that the minimum he had done on that walk was two hours and forty and we really felt that he wanted to break his record. Anyway, Tierra del Fuego, a dream. This tour? It could improve a lot. I hate being treated like that and even more so if they promote it like they are different from all the other tours ever.

Enthusiastic guides try hard for you to enjoy the day. They are knowledgeable of the basic history and wildlife of the area. We were initially scheduled for a kayak trip, but cancelled due to wind. You must be flexible and expect any weather here in Tierra del Fuego in the Summer. We did an 8 km hike mostly in the rain, on a trail with mud, roots and rocks. Scenery reminds one of the PNW or Alaska. Views of mountains and rocky coastline. Must be in good physical condition and be used to walking on irregular trails, up and down the hills. We were served a nice family style lunch in a giant dome tent structure, with wine and chicha. Afternoon was spent paddling some inflatable rafts, same scenery as on hike, but more in the open. They will outfit you with rubber boots and pants for the rafting. All done in the Tierra del Fuego National Park. Pick up and drop off at your hotel included.

The scenery on the hike was amazing and our guide Fede was extremely knowledgeable about the local fauna and wildlife. He shared this information in fluent English and Spanish. Our hiking tour began at the Post Office del Fin del Mundo (at the end of the world) so bring your passport if you want to have it stamped by the post office del fin del mundo for fun and bragging rights. We saw a red fox before we even departed the bus and three condors while hiking.
The canoeing was really rafting down a lazy river that had lions, geese, ducks, and a beaver lodge. Lunch in the geodesic dome next to the river was incredible. This was a great trip with a mildly strenuous hike (at times).

Ana was a fantastic guide and gave us a great introduction to the history, plants, and animals/birds of the area! There's a stop for tea/coffee, and lunch is very good complete with wine. The trail is only strenuous a bit at the very end before lunch. I only wish that the river was a bit higher and the wind less strong as our "canoe" got stuck on rocks several times, and our canoe team needed to work together to get the eight of us free!

Timely pickup from our hotel. Very nice hike through coastal trail at the Tierra del Fuego National Park. Hike was around 3.5 hours long. The vast majority is very light. The final segment is uphill with moderate difficulty. Hike was followed by delicious lunch in the company’s dome. After lunch we went rafting from the lake, down the river, and into Pataia Bay. Our guide Facundo had excellent English and made the excursion a lot of fun. Recommended!

Very well organized. Great guide. Beautiful hike and a lovely paddle. Guide was very knowledgeable and responsive to questions. Wish we could have hiked a little more slowly to really see better what was around us, and take more pictures. But we had a deadline for lunch. Maybe a box lunch would have given us more time on the trail.

This trip was organized by a US-based travel company working with an Argentina tour consolidator who contracted with Canal Fun so we had no idea what we were getting but it was one of the best days on our Argentina adventure. If we go back to the area, we will definitely work directly with Valentin and Canal Fun for more excursions. Valentin met our group of 12 at our hotel and got to know us immediately. We worked together to determine the length of our hike and he made sure to take plenty of breaks for the teens (and adults). Snacks and water were provided plus the lunch in the geodesic dome were delicious. Wish we had known that rubber boots and dry-pants were provided before we embarked from the hotel (would have saved us carrying rain pants x 12 ppl) but other than that it was a perfect day. On the way back to the hotel, Valentin and the driver were kind enough to let us stop in town for a quick shopping trip to prepare for New Years Eve festivities. Great sights, fun guide, good food, excellent service.

On the day of the tour the weather didn't allow for canoeing, we did the trekking which was very good and very easy.
If you think you can't do it, you can change your mind, it's really very easy
At the end, a delicious lunch with wine at the Domo or IGLU.
it cost!

Very pleasant and easy 3.5h trek through a forest in the national park followed by an ok lunch and good canoeing. No paddling experience necessary, waterproof pants and boots provided, enjoyable but quite windy on the water. Daniel did a good job as a guide and Mauri made sure we’re safe on the water. You also make it to the end of the RN3, last part of Panamericana highway stretching all the way from Alaska, what’s not to like about that?!

Gracias

I will reach Ushuaia on Dec. 30 and would like to do this day trip on Dec 31 2018. Before booking I want to know how strenuous is the hike? I am over 60, but fairly fit and have trekking experience in Himalayas. Do you pick up from hotels? I will be at Arakur. Nilanjana Mukherjee
