About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Larry A0 contributionsA great experience!A fantastic experience. It was well organized and guided well beyond expectations! Extra information during the trip was in Spanish and English. A comfortable and modern bus made the trip a pleasure for the group of about 20 people .Written 18 March 2025
- E7374UDjohnd0 contributionsGreat Trip!Great boat trip! Staff, food and service was excellent! Good narrative about glaciers. Captain navigated boat to allow for views on all sides.Written 29 January 2025
- P4737GVdavids0 contributionsMemorable glacier TrekReally unbelievable experience getting to trek on the glacier for an hour, which ended with a scotch and some chocolate on the mountain. Our guides made sure we were safe, and they were informative every step of the way. Literally a cool experience.Written 6 January 2025
- robproccons0 contributionsWitnessing the breaking off and dropping of bus-sized ice lumps is very memorable. We were happy to tour in our rented car. The raids are good and we prefer to be on ourselves instead of yelling tourists. We visited the balconies from where the ice field could be seen breaking into the lake. The tour to the glacier is worthwhile and we were surprised to see large icebergs so far from the glacier.Written 25 November 2024
- roselanecbg0 contributionsWonderful tourMaria Turquesa boat is very confortable. Very clean. The lunch box (chiken in our case ) was surprisingly amazing though it.took too long to be served. Missed a point there. Great views. I truly reccomend this tour. It was a very nice day with a very polite team abord.Written 15 February 2024
- chiaramX5216OQ0 contributionsDO NOT BOOK WITH GRAY LINE - THEY CANCEL THE RESERVATION LAST MINUTE !!!We had a terrible experience with Gray Line Argentina. We booked and paid for the mini trekking experience over one and a half months before the event. We contacted Gray Line at that time to verify that the reservation was OK and filled in all requested information. On our tripadvisor page the booking was shown as confirmed. With just a few days of notice before the event, Gray Line contacted us saying that there were no availabilities for the selected date and did not reply any further when we asked for explanations nor apologized in any way. As we had paid in argentinian pesos, given the volatility of the currency, for us getting the money back 2 months later resulted in big losses due to the very high changes in exchange rate during the period. Our experience unfortunately shows that Grayline Argentina is untrustworthy and disorganized. Not only did they cause complications with our trip to Perito Moreno making us look for a plan B with little notice, but they also made us lose lots of money due to their lack of transparency and organization. Unfortunately, looking at other reviews, we see that we are not the first victims of this untrustworty company...Written 6 January 2024
- R1745GEviktorias0 contributionsDO NOT BOOK !!!!I made the booking one day before the trip. I called the agency during the booking to confirm that it is still possible to do it because it is only one day before - they assured me that it is ok. I called again in the morning to confirm the pick up JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE - again they assured me that everything is ok and that I should be ready at 10:15 for pick up. At 10:45 they send me an email canceling the trip! Worst organization ever - save your nerves and avoid this agency at all cost. And believe the reviews here as it seems like this is not the first time they have done it!!!!!!!Written 25 November 2023
- K8096IXjessr0 contributionsA once in a lifetime experience that we will never forget. This was one of the best experiences of our lives - you will not regret booking this trip. We booked directly via Hielo y Aventura (there may be many third party companies you can book through but Hielo y Aventura are the actual company that run the excursion). We were picked up from our hotel promptly at 7am. The journey to the National Park was about 1hr. Even though we had purchased entrance to the park online, we had to exchange our e-voucher for a real ticket. We arrived at the balconies at around 9am and had them pretty much to ourselves before the coach loads arrived. Stunning views of the glacier, but quite cold and windy! The coach took us to the port where we boarded a catamaran for a 15min journey across the lake. Here, we were divided into English-speaking and Spanish-speaking groups and informed about the trip. We were then split into smaller groups and began a short walk to some huts where we were equipped with helmets and harnesses. I had read other reviews warning that the hike to the glacier was very difficult - but it was actually just a short uphill hike (about 1hr), not difficult at all. There were a few stops along the way to adjust layers as you quickly get warm. There was a short section of scree to get down to the crampon station which I found difficult only because I am a massive wimp when it comes to going downhill! But the guides helped me and even taught me some tricks for downhill. We were then fitted with crampons. It took a bit of time to get used to walking in them but the guides taught us skills and helped us over crevasses. Again, I am a massive wimp but soon felt confident on the ice. It is very safe. We had about 3hr on the glacier and the time flew by. We had lunch in a sheltered section just before a short snow storm rolled in. This was so atmospheric. We saw ice caves, waterfalls and ice pools; we couldn't stop smiling for the entire trip. Who knew there were so many shades of blue?! After removing crampons we hiked back the way we came and took the catamaran in front of the glacier for a final view. I won't spoil the extra surprises! We returned back to El Calafate by around 6.30/7pm. I'll also share a few other bits of information that I wanted to know before starting the trip: What to wear We wore baselayer bottoms underneath waterproof pants. On top we were mostly in our baselayers when hiking, and had to regularly take on or off soft/hard shells. You get warm while walking, but it quickly becomes cold especially when the wind hits. Toilets! There were proper toilets at the balconies and the huts before starting the hike. There are also pit toilets near the crampon station. The trip was very well organised, all the guides were full of interesting facts, useful tips and tricks and were so supportive to everyone. We cannot recommend this enough, it was worth every penny and we will treasure this experience for the rest of our lives. Thanks Hielo Aventura for an amazing day.Written 21 November 2023
- Jack N0 contributionsA must go journeyA must go activity if you will travel to El Calafate. The view is just spectacular and walking inside a mini ice cave is just so much fun. Staffs are friendly and knowledgeable about the history and conditions of the Big Ice. Highly recommended!!Written 28 October 2023

- liishu0 contributionsDon’t book the day beforeLike another commentator said - don’t bok the day prior. Even though they had made their scheduling available for the next day and I provided all the required information, my reservation was cancelled. I was notified of it late at night, so I couldn’t even look for alternatives. Went to another agency in person early in the morning the day of the tour and luckily they were able to fit me into a tour. We’ll see how the refund request goes.Written 16 December 2022
- paulfF2909HY0 contributionsHard work getting there for very basic experience.Unless you like horse riding, give this a miss. After driving 40 minutes you then turn onto a dirt road and experience 34kms of bone jarring travel. It served a nice meal but attractions were basic at best.Written 11 December 2022
- Maria F0 contributionsGlaciers by WaterBuy your glacier cruise in El Calafate as soon as you arrive because the cruises sell out. There are a couple different glacier cruises. We took the Upsala, Spengazzini cruise which I highly recommend. We cruised Lago Argentina and up two of the arms. It was beautiful. The water was an unbelievable turquoise blue with floating ice bergs. After visiting one of the glacier up close you disembark on the shore for lunch. You can bring a lunch, purchase a hot lunch from the boat, or purchase food from the cafeteria overlooking the glacier. You can eat inside or on the deck overlooking the glacier. If you want to go in luxury you can purchase passage in the Captain’s cabin riding in a private room in the front of the boat with food and wine served throughout the cruise. We took my father and it was a perfect way for those who can’t go trekking to see the glaciers. Also, this cruise allowed us to see different glaciers other than Perito Merreno which we mini-trekked.Written 22 November 2022
- V3155FJlisak0 contributionsFun day and great views!Fun day! The hike was fun and once we were at the top the views were amazing. It was a long drive from El Calafete but our guide was terrific providing a lot of great history and info. The 4x4 part of the excursion was a bit misleading as there was not a true 4x4 adventure as we were expecting (four wheeling) but rather a 40 min ride in a van over some rough terrain to get to the start of the hike. Overall we would do this trip again!Written 25 February 2020
- travelling-friends30 contributionsSuper experience!Big Ice trek was one of the most amazing glacier experiences I have ever had. The service provided was excellent by the guides on the ice, the bus driver and the guide on the bus and the boat crew and of course Perito Moreno is amazing - if you are the first group (of 6 a day only - 10 people in a group) on the ice in the morning you have the ice field all for yourself. Go for it! You won't regret!Written 19 February 2020
