What to Expect
Discover why Salta is called “the very beautiful” by visiting its different regions full of contrast: from the Mountain Range with steep mountain paths and multicolor hills to Salt flats, plains, small valleys and cities that seem to be stopped in time. Learn about denizens traditions and customs, and taste its excellent local cuisine.
Cross the Andes to explore the small town located in the Atacama Desert and be amazed by its singular landscapes, quite unlike anywhere else on earth: Vast salt flats and active geysers are the main attractions.
You can choose between 3 types of accommodation: Inn, Comfort or Superior, depending on your preferences and you will have breakfast included each morning at your hotel or during your excursion. Lunches and Dinners are at your own expenses, and your guides will be happy to recommend places for you to taste local cuisine.
For details on each day of the tour, please see the Itinerary below:
Itinerary
Day 1 – Salta

Upon arrival you will be driven to your hotel (private service), having the rest of the afternoon to explore the town. Since city stress has not arrived here, bear in mind that during nap time most shops are closed.

Day 2 - Salta - Excursion Salt Flats and Humahuaca Gorge – night in Purmamarca

Today you will leave Salta in a two- day excursion (shared service). For this exploration we recommend to leave your luggage in your hotel in Salta, and just take with you a day pack to the excursion.

Early in the morning you will travel along the same route as the famous Train to the Clouds, across the Quebrada Del Toro (Bull's Gorge). From here, you will reach Santa Rosa de Tastil, a vast archeological site 3,000 meters high, right in the heart of this gorge.
Afterwards, visit San Antonio de los Cobres, one of the smallest villages in the region. You will be driven through the ex National Route 40 until you reach the Great Salt Flats. Its surreal landscape is perfect for amateur and professional photographers alike.

Later in the afternoon, you will be taken to your hotel in Purmamarca.

Overnight: accommodation included
Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3 - Purmamarca - Humahuaca Gorge / Salta

Today you will meet your guide again to continue with your tour (shared service), this time along the Humahuaca Gorge, declared a UNESCO Heritage Site.

You will visit places such as Maimará, at the foot of the “Paleta del Pintor” (it’s a photo stop on the road), Tilcara and its famous “Pucará de Tilcara”, the Capricorn Tropic, Uquía (Cuzco School paintings) and the small town of Humahuaca, the village the Gorge is named after. On the way back to Salta, you will also visit San Salvador city, the capital of JUJUY province.

The trip takes about 12 hours during which you will enjoy stunning Altiplano scenery.
It is important to point out that today you are leaving Argentina and crossing the international border to Chile. Please, keep your passport handy.
