Caleb and Florence did a fabulous job of giving the history and culture of what we were about to eat, followed by enjoyable instruction and hands-on cooking techniques. Rose and Florence assisted us through every step of preparation of a tasty multidish African meal and Caleb and Florence ate with us for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. My brother and I had a wonderful time with this kind and gracious couple and highly recommend the cooking class or having a meal at their adjoining restaurant, Pahari, on Cecil Street. Afterwards Grace was sweet to walk us to the Biscuit Mill Market.

We were warmly welcomed into Pahari's Cooking Class by Florence and Caleb - a husband and wife team who are the absolute bedrocks of this experience! Both are very knowledgeable, good structure from history of what is known currently about the origins of Southern African food to tasting snacks and family style eating. Florence, Caleb and their staff were very warm and welcoming. This was the BEST part of our trip to CPT. Food was delicious and I would highly recommend the cooking class and if you don't have time for a cooking class, dropping by to eat here for some authentic home-cooked African food!!

This was one of the most authentic and best experiences we had in South Africa! The wife and husband team that owns and leads this experience- Florence and George are incredibly kind, talented and knowledgeable about African cuisine, blending traditional food and customs with todays South African norms. Cooking with them felt like an invite into their home and heritage. The food was delicious(!) and the experience was fun, organized, clean and thoughtful. Just enough cooking to learn without the minuta of all the prep work. If you’re looking to have a great time, learn and try new things- including meat and/or vegetarian options- this is a must! Florence and George even joined us for dinner at the end, showing us how to properly eat the meal like a true South African while sharing more about themselves. They created a family dinner feel and treated us like their guests. Incredible!!

Florence is such a warm, kind woman. She and Rose made me feel comfortable right away. She gave a brief history of the cuisine and then had prepared delicious dishes that we dined on after. I would recommend visiting her!

Today, my sister’s and I experienced cooking traditional African dishes at Pahari restaurant. It was amazing as Caleb gave us some historical information about where the food comes from. Florence and Rose did and awesome job of teaching us the preparation of the food. Then we were able to sit family style and enjoy the food that we prepared. I definitely recommend taking this class.

This was a truly enriching experience. I learned so much about the migration of food culture across Africa, which added depth and context to the dishes we prepared. Caleb showed us how peanut butter is traditionally made and Florence taught me how to cook the most delicious beans. Florence and Caleb’s enthusiasm and passion made the lesson even more enjoyable. They brought the recipes to life with their energy and storytelling. A wonderful blend of culture, history, and delicious food!

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful experience learning about some of the authentic African cuisine. The hosts were very knowledgeable about the history of the cuisine as well as the way that techniques have changed over time.
They were also very fun to talk to and incredibly welcoming. They clearly have a passion for keeping the traditions alive and ensuring the food they make is organic, of the highest quality, and sustainable.
We would highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about African cuisine and getting an authentic and inviting experience.

The food was delicious. The experience was wonderful. We prepared the food and learned about how African food was developed. This restaurant has been involved with bringing back African traditional food and so it has a strong working knowledge about it. Is made for a very educational experience as well as a very tasty treat.
