About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- David L0 contributionsExtraordinary educational tour in Johannesburg and SowetoTremendously educational tour with exceptional driver guide. Major stops for us included the must-see Apartheid Museum, the tour guided Constitution Hill and Constitutional Court, and Mandela House and the delicious Sakhumzi restaurant in Soweto. In addition, along the way driver guide Joseph stopped for us to see the stadium built for World Cup soccer in 2010 and the different types of housing in contemporary Soweto. He answered all our questions and also helped us with street buying of crafts in Soweto. Throughout the day, Joseph provided insight, information, and personal stories that illuminated the changes and continuities in post-apartheid South Africa. All in all, an extraordinary experience for us. Two thumbs up, way up!Written 3 November 2024
- kkkp0 contributionsFantastic tour – very good route and super guideWe, family of 4, had one day tour in Johannesburg and Soweto. It was for us obvious that having one day we have to travel with local guide and his car. We even didn’t consider (because of many reasons) the concept to rent a car and travel and park without local guide. As usually I have sent request to a number of guides, comparing received proposals. The offer from Joseph was very quick, detailed as to the concept of our tour, taking into account our specific need and also interesting price. So we agreed some months before the day of the trip. Joseph arrived to our hotel before agreed time, took us showing main areas of Johannesburg , giving very interesting information about the places and also about urban changes in visited areas. The part of the tour in Soweto covered among others towers, Mandela Museum and Hector Pieterson Memorial. After spending 4 weeks in three African countries I have to point out that the small bazaar close to the Memorial with African souvenirs was the most interesting place with such items – many real handicrafts with reasonable prices. Finally we visited Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg – this is something which must be visited when traveling to Johannesburg. Joseph is fantastic guide – very knowledgeable, keeping very good contact with us. This one day tour gave us possibility not only to see visited places but also to understand social, political and urban changes in the city and suburbs within last 50 years.Written 1 September 2024

- Pioneer600730 contributionsWonderful TourWe booked the private Soweto & Johannesburg tour. All discussions and itinerary was agreed with Joseph via email. The guide arrived on the agreed time to pick us from the Hotel in a large clean car/SUV. Our guide Gilroy was excellent, friendly, well informed and shared many interesting facts about the various locations we visited which made it a very enjoyable experience. The payment was taken at the end of the tour via credit card which was very helpful in avoiding advance payments via links or bank transfers. I would high recommend Jeff Tours and Transfers. Thank you Gilroy & Joseph.Written 15 September 2023

- Adelour0 contributionsAmazing tour with our great guide Jospeh !Booked via our hotel. Joseph had been very patient with us as we arrived late from the airport. He gave us a great tour of Johannesburg neighborhood and surroundings, we also stopped at mandela bouse, soweto, apartheid museum and more. He spoke perfect french with us. His knowledge about South Africa History is astonishing, we learned a lot. I highly recommend anyone to book a tour with him if you have only a day like us in Johannesburg and willing to get most of your day visiting the important landmarks with great history and lifestyle information. Thank you again for today's visit!Written 13 May 2023

- echyzstuf0 contributionsJoseph is a great guideJoseph was AWESOME, he was easy to communicate with, as I had a ton of questions and needed some flexibility with the schedule. He took us all over and patiently waited for us when we were in the Apartheid Museum, as we took a long time going through it, it is extremely well done and worth the time. It was nice to see where Nelson and Winnie lived as well as learning more about the struggles from the past, (Hector Pieterson) and from the present day, and to realize how much we didn't know!Written 21 October 2022
- lindsayn8040 contributionsVery interesting experience exploring the prison and recent history of SAWe visited on a not-busy Sunday in winter, and really enjoyed the guided tour which last an hour or so, taking us around the Block 4 and isolation areas. The tour was a touch rushed, so we went back and revisited the parts we missed. The women's prison was more artistic and nicely laid out, but we ran out of steam! Maybe worth seeing it first, then doing the tour after? Remarkable considering how recent the history is. The prison is now surrounded by tall buildings in a fairly deprived part of town.Written 15 August 2022

- Rinaldo H0 contributionsPretoria Johannesburg & SowetoLong layover in Johannesburg customized private tour. Today (Xmas) I used Jeff tour to visit Pretoria Johannesburg & Soweto. When many other companies rejected, Joseph was there to pick me up at the airport and accomodate my requests. Couldn't enter the museums since they were closed for Christmas' holiday. But could get different experience. Joseph is very knowledgeable, and always keeping us safe. Paid R1710 by credit card, which is convenient since money exchange rates at the airport are not great. Lunch at Soweto @ R340 per person (Christmas special menu buffet) a bit expensive but I felt it worthed. The food was delicious and more than ten different dishes Overall experience was positive. I wouldn't be able to cover Pretoria, Soweto, and Johannesburg (old center, Hillbrow, Sandtown, Melville, China town, East wealthy neighborhood, etc.) by myself in 7 hours. Good job Joseph.Written 25 December 2019
- Curios7191900 contributionsExcellent Tour and ServiceOur guide, Joseph, was very knowledgeable and made the tour of Soweto and Johannesburg really interesting and insightful! Joseph picked us up from the airport and we were able to select the time that we wanted to start and end the tour. We learned a lot about the history and socio-economical situation in South Africa and really appreciated this as we wanted to learn about the country and its people before we left. This was the perfect way to end our trip, and the visit to the Apartheid Museum is a must-do!Written 21 October 2019

This was an excellent experience - my guide Joseph was kind and helpful. I was travelling solo and he picked me up directly from my accomodation and provided me with a tour of Soweto, Johannesburg and the Apartheid Museum. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the city. I would certainly recommend this tour to others. Thank you!

I did two tours with Jeff, first the one to Soweto, the Apartheid museum and around Johannesburg as well as a tour to the Voortrekker memorial and Pretoria. I enjoyed both tours a lot. Jeff is a very reliable, friendly and savvy tour guide who knows a lot about South African history and the places we visited as well as the people. I felt always very safe and well informed. It was great talking with Jeff and I gained more awareness of South African history and culture. I can only strongly recommend doing a tour with him. It is great way to get to know South Africa. Many thanks, Jeff!

Great experience driven around by Joseph, seeing some of Johannesburg, Soweto and the Apartheid Museum. Joseph openly shared his knowledge and experience, took in my questions, and listened to me compare these experiences with my own understanding from living in a couple of different countries. The visit to Soweto was particularly eye-opening, including being shown around by one of the locals in the poorest of the areas, and broke some of the stereotypes I had come with. I'm happy to recommend both Joseph and the tour to others.

Joseph, our guide was excellent. He was informative about the history of apartheid and the struggles to get it abolished. He gave us a wonderful tour of the neighborhoods of Soweto. He explained the effects of tribal affiliation on South African citizens and their lives. He is fluent English of course but in French as well. We highly recommend him from Jeff Tours.

I learned so much during this excursion due to our amazing guide and chauffeur, Joseph Kazadi! The apartheid museum was closed, so we went to the constitution hill instead, which was just as interesting. This excursion alone was worth the whole trip to Johannesburg itself!

The trip was well organised. Joseph collected me from my hotel early in the morning. We collected a few other passengers and drove around the major sights of Johannesburg. The trip was an eye opener in that we got to see the major sights, but also learned where not to travel to alone. One of the highlights of the trip was going to Soweto and seeing that township and how it has developed over the years and how some areas have remained ‘stuck’ in a cycle of poverty.
The tour took us to Vilakazi Street where we saw Mandela House- going in was an extra 60Rand but was worth it. We could also see Archbishop Desmond TuTu’s house as well. Then we drove to the Hector Pieterson Museum and see where the student uprising happened in 1976.
We also were able to walk through the slums of Soweto. This free tour was led by a young guy who lives there and is part of the otbnpo( only the brave non profit organisation) he made it clear that he didn’t want any money from us just wanted to highlight what life was like for the poorest of people in Soweto.
The ultimate highlight of the day was spending 2 hours visiting the Apartheid Museum. I honestly could have spent much longer if I was allowed. It really gave an in-depth look at the origins of Apartheid, how it developed, how it affected people inside and outside of South Africa and how the country fought to be free of it!
As mentioned my guide Joseph was super friendly, really knowledgeable, willing to answer any question asked about the places we visited or about South Africa in general, and a really nice guy! I recommend this trip to anyone who visits Johannesburg and wants a comprehensive overview of the city and its surrounding area.

Can 100% recommend this tour when visiting Johannesburg. Knowledgeable and very friendly guide!
Booked the trip the day before late in the evening, this was no problem at all. Was picked up at the B&B on time and dropped off again at the end of the tour.
The tour is nice and takes into account the time you will need to properly visit the apartheid museum and all the other stops we made along the way. The guide obviously new what he was talking about and taught me a lot about Jo'burg, Soweto and life in South Africa. Thank you very much for the experience!
