- Crwtts00Memorable Night in MabonengThe Curiocity Night Walk and Penthouse Dinner was incredible. The food was absolutely delicious and the space is beautiful. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable night. We were a group of 15 and everyone left very happy.
- andywithers75200Excellent afternoon “off the beaten (cycle) track”.My wife and I booked the tour as we wanted to learn more about areas that are not normally considered to be “tourist destinations”. We were not disappointed. We got a greater understanding of the history and incredible street art of Maboneng while also discovering cool businesses and enterprises. Further away we learned more about the history and modern life in Troyeville and Jeppestown, while Victoria Yards was totally unexpected. Highly recommended if you are interested in doing “something different” in Johannesburg, albeit I must say the bicycles were not the best; the brakes on mine were barely functional. The longer-term success of the tour might be improved by cycles that are more obviously well maintained (perhaps we were unlucky with our bikes, and no harm was done) but no doubt at all about the energy, engagement and knowledge provided on the tour. Our excellent guide (I think his name was Sam, and it’s on me that I’m not certain more than a month later) certainly knew his stuff — and most importantly knew people out on the streets to bring the tour further to life. Really enjoyed our Sunday afternoon.
- Eliza H00Amazing; a must doI loved my cycle tour with Ayanda. As a solo female traveller it was just perfect. The tour was so informative and we covered so much ground, saw the most intriguing neighbourhoods and places, accentuated by Ayanda's extensive knowledge. I would highly recommend this tour as without it I would never have seen so many fascinating parts of Joburg through the eyes of someone who grew up in the east city. Thanks so much Ayanda!
- DianaM289800Eclectic Jozi vibeI love Maboneng, don't let the surroundings scare you, right near a freeway. Fun for all types, definitely recommend!
- FLovetravelling00Memorable experience of Maboneng!Sensational evening in Maboneng organised by Curiocity and Bheki Dube. Roof top view of Joburg included in the tour, I enjoyed seeing experiencing Maboneng at night and the neighbourhood. If you haven't been to Maboneng, you have to go! It is trendy, arty, alternative and vibrantly wonderful. After the walking tour we had a superb intimate penthouse dinner prepared by Kobo and his awesome team. Kobo is an impressive chef was delicious! This was a memorable experience of Joburg for me and my friends. I can't wait to go again and take my friends on the penthouse evening! If you’re looking for incredibly good company, a great experience and evening in Maboneng, this is where you need to be! so worthwhile!!! We had a great laugh, fun and sublime night! Curiocity and Kobo crew you rock!!!!!
- StephTerwin00Top class evening in MabonengInspiring evening! Started off with a walking tour of the changing Maboneng by Bheki Dube. Then to a rooftop penthouse dinner, prepared by Kobo and his team. Delicious unique starters mains and desert. Alternative company. Fun and quirky night all round. Would highly recommend!
- James N00Fascinating tour of SowetoBeing a local South African who has only visited Soweto before to go to sporting events, I had a lot of misconceptions about the area. It was fascinating to see how diverse Soweto is and in many ways safer and more community focused that the rest of Joburg. Bongani was a world class tour guide and exceptionally knowledgeable.
- Apricot201500Great night outWhether you are a group of friends, a traveler, a couple or for business, this is a fun and different way to spend an evening. I'm sure depending on the mix or crowd to are making the tour with you, a different experience each time.
- Br0nwyn2019_00Will definitely recommend. The tour, food, services, guides was all in all one of my favourite experiences here in Johannesburg. Thank you Curio, keep up the good work. 👍
- miguelmonta00Misleading informationHi, we did the Soweto full day tour (650 rand). The ad says that tour includes visits to Mandela house, Desmond Tutu house and Pieterson museum. We specifically asked if the tickets were included and the answer was yes. Well, in fact the tour passes by these 3 places, not really visiting them. We complained to the guide and it seems that it is not the first time somebody complained but the info and the ad has not changed... There are other agencies offering a more personalized experience for the same price. Really disappointed as we felt really cheated.

Mind-changing experience! Fantastic and highly recommendable!
We did hear that Johannesburg is rather unsafe so we first thought we might not risk visiting the city.
Then, we found this walking tour and decided to do it -- best decision ever!
Ikoh, during the tour named "The King of Joburg", showed us all the hidden (and numerous) gems within this vibrant and diverse city. At the same time, we felt completely safe with him and could enjoy the city.
So instead of being afraid of the city, we could really learn to know and appreciate all aspects of this very interesting city. The mix of fantastic street art and great style within the less developed parts of the city is mind-blowing.
So, Ikoh: You changed our view of the city!
Thank you very much for that!
All the best!

This walking tour started at the CurioCity Backpacker place at 301 Fox street. We walked for 4 hours with Eco, Mostly through Meboneng but then through the other downtown neighborhoods. We did not stop anywhere for very long but with our loquacious guide, all of us learned a lot about downtown Joburg and how the area has been revitalized. I wanted to see downtown Joburg but it would not be safe to do so on my own so it was nice to have such a knowledgeable guide lead us on this journey. This was a unique walk because downtown joburg does have a crime problem and much of the downtown area is not particularly scenic but revitalization is happening and the juxtaposition between the revitalized and the decrepit makes for an unusual journey.

A number of things didn’t go our way on this tour.
The weather was not great, which was fine and tour group took care of this by providing umbrellas. Which was awesome. The guide however wasn’t the best, he was pretty unorganised and seemed to be making up his tour as he walked. Some of the information he gave us was inaccurate and he seemed to be rushing us through most of the key places we wanted to see. In Moboneng he rushed passed all the funky interesting things we came to see, at the top of Carlton he made us race through and almost got a bit frazzled when we wanted to pause and take in some of the views. We had guests from abroad with us and it was disappointing that we couldn’t showoff and experience showcase some of Jozis heavy hitters.
A better prepared guide would have made the world of difference.

Our tour guide, Tshepo was very knowledgeable around the history of the city. He took us through the journey of how JHB was formed during the gold rush years, how things changed during the Apartheid era and what is expected to come in the future. Highly recommended and informative.
