        Amazing!
This was a once in a lifetime experience. We exited the ship and found Misty Fjord on the pier. No advanced reservations since weather can be overcast. The scenery was incredible and our pilot was informative. Alaska is even more beautiful by air. A must do in Alaska.

        Awesome service
We booked with Dave in 2019 for our flight in 2020 when we were to cruise Alaska . Due to Covid we had to cancel and although Dave couldn’t offer a refund , he kindly offered a credit which we accepted. We rebooked three different times and due to Covid restrictions were finally able to get to Ketchikan September 2023…. Dave honoured our credit and we arranged the tour finally. We were met at the cruise terminal and taken to the office . Unfortunately the weather wasn’t kind to us and our flight was cancelled. Devastating but understandable as the weather was always going to dictate the outcome. What we didn’t expect was FULL refund. This extremely generous , honest man did indeed fully refund our expense. So not only did he hold our booking for 3+ years …… I can’t recommended the honesty and integrity of this company enough. If I ever get back to Ketchikan I will def contact them again and have recommended them to friends who are going there next year. Thanks so much Dave and company Regards Lesley Fawcett , Australia

        Simply the best
This is the finest Ketchikan fiight charter company in the area. They are more than accomdating, extremel professional and keep their aircraft in perfect condition. The pilots are all experienced and thoughtful - making sure your trip is the best it can be. Ketchikan weather can be challenging at the very least and again, this is an area where they shine by making sure you go at the right time for the best experience you have ever had. I cannot say enough great things about this company and its staff. I have been using them for over 20 years to visit fly in cabins in the area and they have handled each trip beautifully.

        Bueatiful. No remote landing
Enjoyed our flight with Jeff. A beautiful day and a beautiful tour. Disappointed this tour did not include a remote landing on a lake. That was the most memorable part of a previous tour.

Misty fjords seaplane + crab feast
Well worth the price. We loved the beautiful float plane ride w our awesome pilot George and beautiful plane. Felt really safe and had a hour plus ride over the magestic preserved mountains to the lodge were we met Mady our awesome host. Our crab feast was the best ever. We will always remember this excursion because Mady' s hospitality was great. We hated to leave. PS. The Alaskan beers were great. Thanks.

        Ferry trip
Having been marooned in Ketchikan by the Alaskan Marine Highways System ferry strike, the only way to reach Canada was by Misty Air. Their booking system was good and there were no hitches. The aircraft was modern and spacious. The flight was excellent, smooth and we were kept informed by our pilot, Dave. Altogether a wonderful experience which managed to restore some of our depression on losing our Alaskan holiday highlights.

        Great views and friendly service
My experience started out positively by talking with Megan about safety and scheduling, after recent accidents in the area with other companies. We felt confident as our trip rolled around, and were impressed with the efficient and professional operation. When we asked out pilot if we could possibly travel past a spot another plane had spotted bears, he kindly taxied slowly from our mid-flight stop, to attempt a sighting for us. The scenery was serene and breathtaking; it was a memorable excursion.

        Majestic flight
An exceptional value compared to the price of every other tour. The views were seriously breathtaking and priceless from the moment you depart, until the time you land. Honestly, the highlight of my trip.

        Trip canceled due to fog
As the title suggests we never got to do our tour. We met the shuttle on time and we had to wait approximately 20 min while they send a test flight to check out the weather. Unfortunately they had to cancel all flights. The day did turn out to be a beautiful sunny 80° day but I could understand the need for safety. I got a full refund credited back to my credit card . Not only was it disappointing not going on our flight but by the time we found out it was canceled all other tours for Ketchikan were booked, or had already departed. If you are booking this tour keep that in mind and do some homework to find a back up plan.

        Getting out on the water
We did not do a cruise ship tour, so this was a way for us to get out on the water and see some of the sights. A great way to see some of the natural beauty that is hidden from view. Worth the price.

        magical
We had one of the perfect sunny days in Ketchikan so the flight was smooth and spectacular. Our pilot was excellent with history and commentary that made it enjoyable. My daughter (36 birthday) said it was the most exciting hour of her life. Saw mountain sheep but the bears and eagles were up at the top of the rivers fishing. Scenery was spectacular

        Magical
Now you know what a bird feels like soaring in the skies- magical, liberated and the world-is-mine feeling. This is one great excursion you must not miss. Its a 2 hour trip , flying over the fjords with great navigation, fabulous explanation and smooth flying. Some of the planes take 8, and some 10. Everyone has a window access. And everyone feels refreshed and rejuvenated. A must-do experience

Excellent pilot- Mr Mike… flew us over the Misty Fjords. They were just 🤩 stunning! The highlight of our trip! We were cruising on Holland America and they canceled our sight seeing flight 😕. So I reached out to this outfitter and they accommodated us easily! Mr Jim helped with the booking. They picked us up right outside our boat and dropped us off back near there. So appreciative of the wonderful experience!! And bonus I got to fly in a Dehavilland Beaver!! What a treat!! Highly recommend!

This is a complex review that 4 dots does not really fit. If you want to visit the Misty Fjords, this company does an amazing job. Planes are in excellent condition and you will feel well taken care of. You can book on line (select flight time) and buy seats per person so very reasonable pricing relatively speaking. They picked us up about 100 yards from our gangway and returned the same. So that part of the review is 5 stars. The attraction value depends on your personality. If you are a tree hugger/nature lover you will think this is 5 star. The scenery is beautiful. Lakes, trees, gigantic national park. But for an average tourist - nature enjoyer but not lover like me - I put the attraction value at 3 stars. Alaska is beautiful everywhere and this is just more of the same beauty with green trees & waterfalls. Not nearly as much wildlife as I would have expected. I was on a cruise, so time is short - if you have kids, I would go with fishing for a half day and the lumberjack show for something entertaining.

COUPLES and People with KIDS please read!!!!!
Hey guys! Going to give you a full review here on everything I learned!
WEATHER and SAFETY - If you read any of the recent news articles like I did, you’ll see there have been some crashes on the seaplanes. Ketchikan is the 4th wettest place in the world which means it can be really cloudy/foggy/rainy. This made me nervous to book, even with misty fjords stellar record. However, when I checked the weather a week before we were leaving it said “considerable clouds” so I waited to book until we were on our cruise ship a couple days before arrival and the weather changed and ended up being very warm and sunny. So the weather is definitely subject to change; but also be aware as if they don’t feel it is safe they will (and should) cancel. That being said, I felt very safe the entire flight and really trusted our pilot. It can get a little bumpy because you are flying through mountains, but I did not think there was much turbulence at all- a little girl threw up though (more on that later) so if you are prone to sickness or have small children make sure you have your throw up bag handy!
NOTE FOR COUPLES and PARENTS. This is the real reason I am writing this review. My boyfriend and I booked this excursion for it’s beautiful views and to learn about the fjords from the pilots. We did not book this excursion to hear four kids of all ages talk the entire time over the peaceful music (which will quiet if someone talks), but as the plane we were on sat 10, the other party had eleven and got split 8 and 3- with us with the party of 8. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids, they can ask great questions and we had kids on our helicopter tour that asked the pilot a ton of questions, but that is NOT what happened here. On the helicopter tour you had to push a button and hold it to talk and obviously the kids wanted to talk nonstop but their parents would not push the button for them every time and were very considerate; even apologizing to us for all their questions. Their questions however, taught us a lot about the glacier we visited and the area and we appreciated how the parents were mindful and we enjoyed having the kids with us. Again, not what we experienced on this excursions. They give you headsets when you get on the plane to hear the captain and drown out noise and speak to each other if you NEED to, but the headsets started in the on position so you could hear everyone else on the plane and the kids took full advantage. When the music played and it was supposed to be calm, the kids just talked in our ear or you could hear their breathing which quieted the music. They didn’t ask questions to the pilot they just made random noises and spoke to each other the entire time, more fascinated with the headset then what they were seeing and their parents said nothing; their mother being almost equally as talkative. We got about ten minutes where they decided to be quiet and those ten minutes were amazing, but it was really hard to enjoy it the rest of the time. The pilot said next to nothing (people we met on the ship said their tour with a different company was different in that it wasn’t open channel and the pilot told them all about the area) but I don’t blame him because he probably didn’t think that he could talk over 4 kids speaking Spanish the entire time or maybe did not think they spoke English (they did) so figured that talking about the area was pointless, which would have been fine had we not been on the excursion and wanted to hear anything he could have told us. This was the excursion I was most excited for but it was really brought down because of the inconsideration of that family, so please if you are parents and you don’t book a private tour, be mindful that other people want to enjoy the serenity of the fjords and turn off your kids headsets or ask them to calm down if they get too loud. We all share this one planet and teaching your kids to be mindful of others is a really good lesson; we were mindful of that family, turning our headsets to off and taking lots of procurers for them. It is not a big plane so it is very easy to communicate non verbally or not through the public channel (I tapped my boyfriend and pointed and it was very effective.) If you are a couple and this does not sound like a good time (it wasn’t especially when the youngest child threw up and that’s all we smelled ) maybe check with them about the other people on the plane or speak up because it really was amazing to see. I really wish the company was more aware and bare minimum started with the microphones on off because maybe even that would have the family more mindful having to physically turn on the mics. We chose the seemingly safest option of the seaplanes and I don’t regret that; but I wish that we had been considered more by the family and company to ensure that everyone was able to enjoy the fjords. Next Time we will either try to find a private tour, Find another safe company and/or call them ahead of time to see how they set up their planes and voice communication. Hope this helps! Alaska is amazing and the misty fjords were incredible!

My name is Chris, and I wanted to thank Misty Fjords Air for the most amazing experiences of our lives. We have always wanted to do a seaplane tour, and its been my dream for over 30 years. Before our cruise ship arrived in Ketchikan we had booked a seaplane tour over a month in advance. Sadly we booked it with another airline, Pirate Airworks. Our cruise ship docked and we patiently waited unit our time at 11am. At 11am we got a call that if we were not going to be there at the dock, they were going to sell our seats. I said we are most certainly going to be waiting. We waited until 11:15am and thats when a lady showed up and said the plane was down and no more flights. I might have been skeptical but only a few minutes before I had received a call that they wanted to sell my seats. My excitement we had been waiting for was destroyed in that very instant. We were totally devastated. Not going to let the opportunity pass, I quickly ran and did whatever I could to get us on a seaplane tour that day!! Very upset and a bit hysterical, we found a guy that ran all the way down the street to meet us and set us up with Misty Fjords Air. They felt horrible about our situation and found a flight for us that afternoon. A wonderful young lady with a huge smile picked us up from the dock in a huge comfortable bus. I was still trying to wipe the disappointment off my face, from earlier that morning. The gal had us smiling and was beyond super nice and polite. Little did I know that we were headed down to the best SEAPLANE tour in Ketchikan. We were taken a few miles out of town to a peaceful and beautiful dock. The pilot we had was Eric. He was kind, funny, and very personable. I was so worried we were getting a second rate experience, but not so, with Misty Fjords Air. Quickly we were in the air and into our dreams of flying in a real seaplane. The weather was perfect, the views phenomenal, the experience was breathtaking. We landed in a perfectly still lake up in the Misty Fjords National Park. The water was smooth as glass and the view were unexplainable. The landing was so perfect you couldn't tell when we were flying or landing. We landed and docked on a beach covered with recent bear tracks. The pictures we took seriously do not look real. It was like we were in a different world, a world I fell in love with. As we have shared our pictures and our experience with family and friends, they are blown away and want to have the same experience. We have made so many people jealous as their seaplane experiences were very different. (This is where I truly found out how blessed we were Pirate Airworks canceled with us.) Eric showed us a high lake waterfall that went down to the ocean. My mother cannot stop talking about it. We saw whales in the ocean and Eric was so good to us, he turned around so everyone could see the whales and have an unforgettable experience. An excellent review is not enough for this amazing outfit. There is a huge difference with the Misty Fjords Seaplane Tours. We later found out that the Pirate Airworks tour we had booked, only landed on the water but would not dock. You would have terrible pictures while you tried to keep your balance on the airplane's floats. We had to pay 9 dollars more for the experience of a life time! Don't go with the cheaper seaplane tours!! This one is worth every penny. If you choose the seaplane tour in Ketchikan Alaska, the only one I would recommend with all my heart is MISTY FJORDS AIR. They not only turned my dreams into a reality, they went above and beyond, making my terrible day one of the most memorable and one of the best days of my life. I will return and I will tell everyone, I know, this place is one you can trust and one that blows out all the competition. Thank your from your friends that live in Colorado, Chris Angela and Mary.

It was a beautiful day in Ketchikan. The views of the mountains & scenery were gorgeous. Landed on a lake in the mountains, landings were smooth, not much of wildlife to see. Still had a very good time.

This compapny was recommended to us by friends who had used them on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago. It was the highlight of our Alaska trip which included a land tour to Denali. Our flight was on their smallest plane fondly known as the "Hot Rod". In addition, our pilot was the original founder/owner of Misty Fjords Air. Dave is a great pilot, totally safety conscious and a wonderful guide for the trip. The weather and scenery were outstanding. The pictures attached to all of the reviews on this site are great representations of the views you will see but cannot take in what you will see on the actual flight. Just a wonderful experience all around. We highy recommend this company for their professionalism, safety and the views you will see.

I went on a cruise to Alaska and we decided to book this floatplane tour with Misty Fjords Air after researching the many floatplane companies. I choose them because they have a good saftey record, great reviews on TripAdvisor and they were running a special. The day we went it was raining in Ketchikan, which seems to be normal. We were in the 10 person plane, which was nice but the front windshield kept fogging up and the pilot was constantly having to wipe the windshield to see. That made me a bit nervous, as I have no idea how he could see where he was going. But, he (Kevin) somehow managed. The windows we looked out fogged up a little bit too, but after wiping it off, the view was great. There were a couple of rough patches in the air due to the weather and I did start to get motion sickness. One other gentleman on the tour said the he got it too. Nonetheless, it was really cool seeing Misty Fjords. I would have liked the pilot to have told us a bit more about what we were seeing and to have showed more enthusiasm. He basically had a continuous conversation with the guy that sat next to him in front. We could all listen to the conversation and it was boring. We were all suppose to be able to talk to each other, but he forgot to turn our microphones on. Oops. The take offs and landings were really smooth and we did get to go out on the plane when we landed in the water mid-way on our tour. That was fun. No wildlife though, which was dissapointing, but obviously out of their control. I had heard a lot of great things about this tour and I would say it was good, but not as good as I expected. The sights were really cool, but the tour guide was lacking (good pilot though).

This is a great tour where you see waterfalls, fjords and lakes. The landing on the lake was awesome. Very quiet and peaceful once you stood outside the seaplane. Our pilot was excellent. It was raining in Ketchikan when we left, but the pilot said they have access to cameras in the fjords and said the weather would be better there. And they were right. Glad we took this tour and happy we chose Misty Fjords Air & Outfitting.

My sister took our first trip to Alaska in June, we researched each of the ports we would be in and were drawn to the reviews of Misty Fjords. My sister tends to be claustrophobic so we were a little apprehensive about being in a small plane but we did not need to worry. Everything from booking the tour to transportation to and from our cruise ship pier was smooth. The plane was beautiful, easy to get in and out of, and the headphones kept the noise level down (only downside was a child in the other group accompanying us who babbled for much of the beginning of the trip until his mom stopped him). We had a crystal clear day- our pilot was so excited and kept commenting that we were able to go much higher than he was usually able to go-his excitement was contagious. We saw waterfalls and mountain goats! The take offs and landings were so smooth- better than on any regular size plane I have been on. The Tongess National Forest is a gorgeous place and really needs to be seen from the air to be able to fully appreciated. Flying with Misty Fjord was a highlight of our trip- highly recommended if you are visiting Ketchikan.

My husband and I tend to be kinda thrifty-- so things like float plane tours are usually a bit extravagant for our budget.
However, we decided to bite the bullet and booked a sightseeing flight on Misty Fjords Air anyway, and I am SO glad we did.
We saved about 25% by not booking a similar flight through our cruise ship; instead, we called MFA directly and booked the flight as we were sailing into the port. If you want to be sure that you get a seat, don't wait until the last second like we did-- book it before you leave home.
Our plane looked like it was in pristine condition; everyone got a window seat, and the ride was very stable and relaxing. Our pilot, Jim, was very experienced and made the entire flight a pleasure. We landed on a remote lake and everyone who wanted to stretch their legs got out and spent a few minutes enjoying the magnificent beauty surrounding us.
I took a ton of amazing pictures, and even managed to record a video of our landing.
If I could have, I would have stayed on the plane and gone again! Should we ever come back to Ketchikan, I'll definitely book MFA again.
Our ship didn't offer flights from Misty Fjords Air; I just found them by googling them and making a phone call.
