Orcas Cove Sea Kayaking
USD 169.99
Overview
Wilderness areas near Ketchikan are ideal locations to see the wildlife and old growth rain forests of south eastern Alaska. With this tour, take a short boat ride to the Orcas Cove launch point, get in a kayak, and spend a few hours exploring the shoreline and spotting wildlife—bears, whales, eagles, and more—waterside. Finish the tour with a snack of local smoked salmon.
What to Expect
Meet your guide on the cruise ship dock before getting outfitted with paddle jackets, life jackets, spray skirts and dry bags for cameras. You'll travel 20 minutes in a small enclosed boat from the heart of historic Ketchikan to the Orcas Cove where high quality, stable double sea kayaks await. Some of the kayaks also have a center seat to accommodate children ages 6 – 8.

After instruction in sea kayaking from the fun and friendly guides, kayakers glide quietly along the rain forest shoreline that is home to many birds and a colorful array of inter-tidal life. Guides share the history ecology of the area as paddlers explore salmon streams, rocky islands and sheltered coves. Bald eagles nest in the old growth forest above and paddlers may see humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, harbor seals, Stellar’s sea lions, mink, deer or black bears along the way.

After 1.5  - 1.75 hours of kayaking groups return for a snack of the finest local smoked salmon and hot drinks before the 20-minute journey back to town by boat. The tour concludes in downtown Ketchikan just a few minutes’ walk from the cruise ship dock; the historic district and Ketchikan’s shopping and restaurants.

Our second visit!

We enjoy spending Port time with the Orca's Cove folks. They take out only 3 kayaks at a time. Shaun and the other staff are well informed. BEST salmon (6 cans this year) post-paddle snacks. We kayak at several Alaska ports and these folks are...More
