- FelipeO9640 contributionsChoose another tour company! The whale tour in Moorea was supposed to be on of the highlights of my trip in french polynesia but the guide had no patience and almost ruined it Wished I went with another companyWritten 13 September 2024
- tom01123580 contributionsWhat a fantastic experience!Jo and our captain took great care to make sure we had a fantastic time! The day was quite windy and the seas a bit rough but we always felt very safe. Jo is incredible knowlegable about Moorea and the whales and local marine life so we could learn a lot and also had an incredible experience seeing several whales up close, including during our snorkel where we could hear the bull singing in the water as we saw it slowly emerging from the depths. Thanks again to the crew and we would definitely do it again!!Written 25 August 2024

- Jean-Francois L0 contributionsGreat Tour!Recently used this company for a Swimming with Whales experience. We were picked up at the Hilton and brought to the dock. There we met Jason (Owner/Capt.) and his staff including Oceanne who was a photographer. Jason and his team was full of knowledge and very frienly. The water was rough, so I didnt feel comfortable going in the water, but most people did and it was safe. They offer the swimming equipement there for everyone. Highly recommended! You won’t be disapointed!Written 21 October 2023
- Tobi_11230 contributionsExcellent whale watching tour.Rahui and Teui were excellent guides. They've brought us to nice locations to see the whales and have a really nice encounterWritten 3 October 2023
- Amyidlewild0 contributionsEpic Whale Experience with Local GuidesWow. Just wow. Our group of 6 friends booked a private ‘Swim with Whales’ tour with Moorea Expedition and the crew delivered an experience beyond our wildest dreams. Captain Rahui gave an excellent briefing, and, Teui, our whale guide was superb in timing our water entry perfectly to encounter the whales. We watched many other boats dump their swimmers at the wrong time or location, completely missing the whales. With Teui, we connected with the whales on every swim, seeing a group of 4 frolicking, and three encounters with a mom and calf, where the calf breached multiple times while we watched in awe. I appreciate that Rahui and Teui are both local Polynesians and gave utmost respect to the wildlife, always respecting the mood and safety of these gentle giants. An experience of a lifetime!!!Written 21 September 2023
- RomainBerto0 contributionsSwim w/ whales, turtles, sharks, fishes. Good lunch and typical Polynesian Food. Most of all, respect of animals !Maybe the best experience we had during our stay in French Polynesia ! We had the chance to swim with whales, turtles, and wonderful fishes ! We spent all the day with Jason who prepared an amazing lunch with typical Polynesian food ! He is really respectful of the animals we found on our way, always measuring if the animal is in good dispositions to let us swim with them ! Thanks a lot Jason for the good memories !Written 10 July 2023
- meluniquehandle0 contributionsWhales, right there!Absolutely incredible experience snorkelling with whales. Cannot recommend highly enough, the team is amazing, the lunch is delicious, the whales are breathtaking and the sharks and stingrays are friendly. Wear reef-safe sunscreen!! - 498lindseyl0 contributionsUnforgettableThe 3 members of the expedition team were friendly and gave us detailed information about our search for Humpback whales and what to do should we be able to get into the ocean to snorkel by the whales. We did find whales and we had fantastic in water interactions with a mother and baby Humpback! It was simply AMAZING!!Written 25 October 2022
- Anka_NewYorker0 contributionsThe most amazing experienceThis must be one of the most amazing things my husband and I have ever done. Jason, the boat captain, provided great leadership from the very first minute, being very thorough with explanations and expectations. I liked that he told us to expect it to be challenging and pushed all to take it seriously and keep in mind our safety and that of the animals. The tour was really well organised and respectful of the animals, maintaining the safe distance. We were lucky to see a mum and her calf upon the first dive. Such a magical encounter! We also swam with turtles and eagle rays outside the coral garden and blue-tip sharks and rays in the lagoon. We had a nice snorkelling time in the coral garden next to the motu and enjoyed a delicious lunch on the boat. The real superstar of this company is Teui. He was our guide in the water and the real hero, who helped even those less experienced to enjoy the tour. Thank you Teui! Would not recommend anybody else but these guys! Professional, organised and keeping it real (but super enjoyable)!Written 22 October 2022
- MrsEEB6180 contributionsAmazing Whale ExcursionMy husband and I chose to vacation to Tahiti/Mo`orea for our honeymoon, and the main reason was to swim with whales. Our experience was amazing! Jessen was our captain, Teui was our swim guide and they were both amazing. Before the tour even started Jessen gave great instructions on how the tour will operate, and how to safely interact with the whales. The whale’s safety is their number one priority which made us feel very comfortable. I’m not an experienced swimmer in open water, so I stayed on the boat during the whale interactions but my husband was in the water and got to swim with two whales four different times. Each time was amazing and he got awesome footage on our GoPro. After the whale interactions we had an amazing lunch cooked by a local family, and then we swam with turtles, stingrays, blacktip sharks, and lots of fish! Our swim guide Teui is the most experienced person on the island interacting with whales, and it made a huge difference when the group was in the water. Our boat always kept a safe difference to give the whales enough space and not cause them any agitation. If you’re looking to swim with whales in Mo`orea, you must book with MooreaExpedition. You will have the most amazing experience with the best crew.Written 18 October 2022
- rachelfG7481PB0 contributionsBest Day Tour Ever!!!Absolutely one of the most amazing experiences of my life!!! We went in early October and saw 3 humpbacks: a singing male and then a female and calf. All kudos to the guide that came in the water with us, he was amazing at keeping track of where the whales went even when they were very deep down, and we even had a guide from another tour group ask him for advice. When the calf got spooked (by bumping itself on the reef - this tour was VERY careful about making sure we didn't scare the whales) and swam off, the captain was able to track it right back down so we got even more time with the mother/calf pair. The guide also took some great footage, so even though our GoPro acted up, we have keepsake videos. After the whales, we swam with stingrays and blacktip reef sharks, had a delicious lunch made by the captain's neighbors, and swam with turtles and eagle rays. On the day that we went, the ocean was very calm, so swimming for a bit of a distance (~100m) to and from the whales with kicking only wasn't hard. Still, I would recommend this tour only to people who are comfortable swimming in deep water.Written 7 October 2022
- wildwestfamily0 contributionsAmazing experience with whales, turtles, stingrays and sharksAmazing day out on the water. I was too nervous to get out to see the whales initially however with Jason's encouragement and assurance I felt confident enough to go out and it was amazing! Truly magnificent experience that I would highly recommend. I held on to the board while swimming to the whales and felt perfectly safe. Swam above a mother and baby whale, perfect visibility and an amazing time. Topped off the morning with a swim in the current with turtles and stingrays followed by 🥽 in shoulder deep water with reef sharks and sting rays. Something I never imagined myself doing and so greatful that I have had this experience. Highly recommendWritten 5 October 2022
- T8135APhelened0 contributionsA Bucket List must!!I went out with Captain Jason and Terrie’ on two occasions and both were fabulous. They were sensitive to both the whales and their customers experience. There were a lot of different languages on the boat and they managed to keep everyone informed and included. On one trip the whales cooperated a little bit more than on the first trip and the seats were a bit rougher but on both occasions we saw whales and got to swim with them. I don’t think you’ve ever experienced Whale Watching until you’re in the water with them and can feel the sounds ( as well as hear) that the male humpback makes! We also saw dolphins turtles and eagle rays!! Thank you so much for what you do!!Written 3 October 2022

This is a must do in Moorea. Vete our guide managed to get us in the perfect spot to see two humpback whales coming out of the blue. Once in a lifetime experience. More importantly our captain Rahui and Vete kept safety as their top priority and managed the situation very calmly when a shark appeared in the water. On top of that we even managed to see a pod of dolphins. 100% recommend as the best company to see whales ethically with, and managed safety risks impeccably.

Moorea expedition hands down has to be the BEST in the business. They are group of professionals who know what they are doing.
Joe is a masterclass professional diver and swimmer who gave us an unforgettable experience of a life time. He is very well at managing group of people who may not be good at swimming and also young children, especially in rough rainy ocean and at the same time find the whales in the middle of a massive open ocean and give everyone the best experience possible while keeping them safe!!
I very highly recommend swimming with the whales and with Mo’orea expedition. I will never forget my experience which will become part of my core memory for life

A magical experience with whales!
Our trip to meet the whales in Moorea was simply exceptional. The team was able to combine professionalism, humor and total respect for animals. Thanks to their expertise, we were able to observe these majestic creatures very closely, while respecting their space and well-being.
Many thanks to Joakim, the photographer on board, who captured these magical moments on video. We leave with unforgettable memories and beautiful images of our encounter with whales.

We were unfortunately really disappointed with this tour - which is not because we didn't see whales (we did! And it was amazing!), But we struggled a lot with the specifics of this tour. Our guide was very nice, but spoke almost entirely in French (despite the description stating this was in English and French). Our briefing was in English, but after that we relied on another passenger who spoke English and French to translate for us
Our guides forgot the food and refreshments for our tour, even though it stated on our ticket that they were included. When we got in the ocean to swim to the whales, our guide constantly screamed at us to swim close together, even though we stayed very close together. We were just trying to avoid everyone vomiting because the water was so rough, but we literally had to be swimming on top of the other people to avoid being screamed at. Except for one person, who was a friend of the guides, who was allowed to chase the whales and do whatever they wanted. It was overall a really disappointing and expensive experience, and we'd recommend booking with a different company if you'd like a better experience.

I booked a total of 4 Trips with Moorea Expedition as my first time swimming with Humpbacks. All 4 Trips we’re unique and unforgettable. First of all the organisation is 10/10. Direct Contact via WhatsApp and fast replies. Including pick up! Francesca was the first guide on my first tour during very rough conditions she was awesome keeping us all safe & sound while guiding us to the whales.
Another two trips with Jo were amazing too his professionalism and sense of humour is the perfect mix for an awesome day. His passion for the whales and ambition to find them is remarkable. All in all Moorea expeditions respects alls rules and provided an safe environment for us but most importantly for the whales.
The only thing I have to mention is that these tours are not for everyone you will have a much better time if you’re a good swimmer and if you’re comfortable in the ocean. Many people seemed to think this is an easy peasy snorkelling tour. Conditions can be rough and the ocean is unpredictable you have to swim a lot.
Thank you for making my dreams come true.
If I would have had more time I would booked another tour with Moorea expedition. Can’t wait to come back next year!

We were immensely fortunate to be able to participate in this experience that will remain etched in my head for life! I can only recommend Moorea Expeditions if you are looking for local people who know the
whales and the environment in which they operate. First of all, when we left with the two guides Corto and Rahui, the respect for animals, being as minimal as possible, and the culmination of safety, which is not the case in all companies.
It was for me the moment that marked me the most during my stay with the meeting with a singing male.
I would like to start again but back in Switzerland, the whales are far away...;-)
Thanks. Moorea Expeditions and see you next I hope.

On this tour you have to be a good swimmer to be able to see the whales and swim with them, as it is in the open ocean. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales from the boat, they were too far away. So if you just want to see whales you should choose a cheaper tour, the price was just too high! On top of that it rained a lot and it was very cold, you were just glad when the trip was over! I wouldn't recommend the trip in rain, and also not if you just want to watch whales. If you dare to go into the water, aren't afraid and can swim well, it will definitely be a great experience. The snorkeling in the lagoon was short, would have been nice if the weather was nice, but after 3 hours of freezing and feeling sick you unfortunately didn't feel like it any more.

Hello,
Thank you for your time reviewing your experience.
You gave us a poor score based on the weather that we have no control over and the whales being less active on the surface during your tour. That’s something we cannot control either. Some days the show is amazing from the boat with whales playing, coming close to the boat, breaching etc… and some days they are just more quiet. It’s the beauty of nature :)
For the rain, it’s unfortunate but our priority is to have people ready for this tour
swim with whales. We are supposed to get wet on this tour :)
We wish you reviewed our team professionalism and expertise in finding whales, taking those in the water next to the whales in a successful and respectful manner. It would have been more fair as these are things we can actually control.

An unforgettable experience !
Our RAHUI and TEUI guides are unparalleled professionals!
They spot the whales, guide them towards the whales, provide advice on how to approach the whales just right.
So the approach of a whale and its calf was a unique and breathtaking experience.
The icing on the cake at the end of the swimming excursion in the lagoon among rays and sharks: brilliant!
A must to consume without moderation

What an amazing experience!! Jo + Terai were fantastic with balancing education, respect for the animals (and nature), and meeting client aspirations for the trip. They were such friendly and humorous guides, offering clear instructions and cautions about animal safety.
We were so fortunate in getting to see several pods above water and waiting until the right time to get into the water with them. This tour does require you to be strong swimmers, or at least moderately fast swimmers, so you can get the best views of the humpbacks. If you’re lucky, the humpbacks will be more playful or restful than active, so you can enjoy them better without chasing them. Yesterday (8/31) we were so lucky! We were in the water with whales 3 different times, though I chose not to go on one due to motion sickness, but it was still so amazing to see the whales that closely. There is no better experience than being in the water with them and, being so close to them was the highlight of our trip so far. A lot is based on luck and intense swimming (and pushing through motion sickness) but it was all 100% worth it.
If you don’t have a go pro, a visiting photographer went out with us and took some amazing pictures. She gave us business cards to contact her afterwards to buy her images. Previews of her images were on her social media as well.
