Delicious typical Costa Rican cooking lesson
Nov. 2021 • Couples
This class was incredible and a great value. The dinner ended up being one of the best traditional meals we have had on this trip. Kati was a great instructor!

Food poisoning
Aug. 2021
Cooking class was fun but the food gave me severe food poisoning that took me out for 2 days. The company is not very responsive as well.

Ohhh Jonathan, that’s a very serious allegation. We have never had such a claim before, but we hope you are feeling better! We take client safety very seriously. As you would have seen during the class, we take food safety very seriously. All clients must wash their hands and alcohol is available. Clients wear aprons and hats. The ingredients we always use in our classes are completely fresh and cut up by members of the class. The vegetables are peeled and the rice, beans and chicken are freshly cooked during the class. No one else reported issues. I have studied food science and it is sometimes difficult to determine the cause of an adverse effect to food, especially while traveling. You may have eaten something earlier that day or even the day before that didn’t sit well and then eating the food in the class caused you to become ill. We are really sorry for the reaction you had and do hope you are doing better. Best wishes!

Stay away from this company
This company is shady. After I booked the class I tried following up with the company to see if they can pick me up from my hotel and to find out what time they can pick me up. I literally tried calling, emailing and messaging them through WhatsApp for several days…got ZERO response. I even had viator try getting a hold of them but they were unsuccessful. I ended up having to cancel my reservation or else they would have robbed me of my money and wasted my time. There’s a reason why this class doesn’t have any recent reviews. I would stay away from this company. This is the worst experience I’ve had with a trip advisor activity.

Amazing class, food, and staff
Jan. 2020
This is the second cooking class I have done (first one in Portugal) and it was fantastic. The location is gorgeous and very private right next to a river. The instructor was very professional and friendly. She was great at explaining each step and giving tips to make the work more efficient. The result was a very tasty casado meal! The only suggestion I would make is to email us the recipes after the class. I would love to make casado and they never answered my facebook message to share the recipe.

Ali was our instructor and she was fantastic. We made Costa Rican salad and casado (the “traditional plate”). Making the corn tortillas was a highlight for sure. Great for any skill level. Thumbs up!

Dec. 2019
The location was terrific and great ambiance. The food was very good, but only suggestion is to let the customers do more of the actual cooking rather than watch you.

Relaxing and Fun Cooking and Dining Experience
Dec. 2019
Our family (with young adults) took this cooking class one night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant is beautiful and well set up, the staff was well prepared, the instructions were clear and well organized. In our small group of 5, it was very personalized, enjoyable AND it makes for a great value meal!

Lovely typical meal
We arrived to a beautiful property and our friendly chef, Catherine. There was only three other girls on our course as well as us two. We started with an explanation of what we would be cooking and eating, the cultural importance of the certain foods we would be preparing. We made a lemon cocktail with the national liquor- four feathers. We then made flavored rice, beef and vegetables, salad and hand pressed tortillas. Desert of sweet plantains was prepared for us. The drinks, particularly the Ginger lemonade was also delicious.

The description made it sound like a more “authentic” experience while this was in a very professional set up. We also didn’t get the recipe emailed to us as promised but hopefully this will arrive.

Fun and Tasty Time with Eli and Dora!
My husband and I paid for this class 1 1/2 hours before taking it! To our surprise, we were the only ones in the class!
We had so much fun with our 2 instructors. We made a tasty Costa Rican drink with guaro, brown sugar and lemons.
We learned how to make Costa Rican rice, casado, picadillo, black beans, tortillas and a salad.
We will be able to bring a little bit of Costa Rica home to share with our friends and family.
Thank you Eli and Dora for wonderful memories of our time in La Fortuna.
It was a new and clean kitchen.

Don't' Miss This Cultural Opportunity!
Jul. 2019 • Couples
My husband and I couldn't be more thankful for the wonderful time we had learning to cook a traditional casado with our guide, Katherine. The meal turned out delicious and there was plenty of food for seconds for our six-person class. We learned how to make a delicious cocktail before cooking and my favorite part was learning how to make tortillas. Katherine also took us to see a beautiful swimming hole with a rope swing called El Salto right next to the outdoor area that we cooked in before we got started. We would do it all over again!
